  • Excellent... you should be a salesman for Fender... sold me.

  • @BrickBriscoe Ha! I could sell books to a blindman.. ;)

  • @elviscash56 Hey Mate. I appreciate you post. To say vintage is always "better" compared to a reissue depends on a number of factors, most of which is personal taste. I can tell you one thing tho, original vintage gear is EXPEN$IVE! The climbing value has to do with the old adage: "They just don’t build them like they used to." Old amps used to be hand-wired with point-to-point wiring techniques, which is too slow & costly of a process to maintain these days. Go with what you like & can afford.

  • I'm only 19 and I always hear about how the originals are much better than the reissues. I played a reissue and was very impressed but I've never played one of the original blackfaces from the 60s. Can anyone shed light on this. I know there is a tendency to assume the old stuff is better but without bias, how does this reissue (in its stock form) stack up against the originals?

  • @elviscash56 - I appreciate your post. To say vintage is always "better" compared to a reissue depends on a number of factors, most of which is personal taste. • Hey 19...to answer your question about how this re-issue stacks up against the original....I've played thru an original and I own the re-issue. While there is a difference in the tone, it is very similar. To me the re-issue channel 2 is a bit brighter than the original. The low end on the original also seems a bit deeper, tighter and more dynamic. But over all, I'm not sure I'd pay the price for the original....when you can get this close for less than a grand. My 2 cents.

  • Thanx mate! I appreciate your comment. I have settled on a really nice fat sparkling tone on both channels, which suits both the Maton TE-1 accoustic & Gibson ES-335

    Bass -5-

    Treble -5-

    Reverb -2.5-

I use an AB-switch to go from either channel for rhythm or lead. I also use a couple of effect pedals:

    (1) TU-3 Boss Chromatic Tuner

    (2) BD-2 Boss Blues Driver

    (3) DD-3 Boss Digital Delay

  • Great chops Garry. Love the tone.

  • @fIRsTRATmAN - Thanx mate. Yes, "It's getting better all the time" :)

  • Inspirational stuff, Garry. Thanks. The DRRI is going to be my next purchase. My Strat is crying out for one.

  • @TheQuakerKId - Thanx for the 'heads up'! I've since sold my Strat & now own a Gibson ES-335.

Some months back, I had performed a little modification on the ‘Deluxe, by disconnecting the permanent Bright capacitor, [C10 - 47pF] to remove the overall harsh brightness of the tone. This is a good mod for a single-coil Strat-type guitar & works well, but for a '335 or a Les Paul – the humbuckers sound way too 'dark'. Resoldering the cap back where it belongs has added some desired biting overtones.

  • @SongWriterGaRRyC I too removed the bright cap. I had my amp guy put a push pull bright switch on my treble knob (essentially a bright switch), and I couldn't be happier.

  • @SongWriterGaRRyC u can install a bright switch just like a twin reverb... At least I heard it was possible :)

  • @ChineseR0ck = True, it's possibe but then it would not be an authentic reissue. I have since discovered having the bright switch on all the time suits the Gibson ES-335. When I had my Strat it was a tad too brittle.

  • @SongWriterGaRRyC True :) Did you swap the original speaker or the tubes? Some people find the amp nicer with a new speaker, not that the amp isnt nice enough. lol

  • @ChineseR0ck - I have read up that swapping tubes & speaker improves tone of the FDRR. If I was going to use it for loud gigs I probably would but it suits me fine for now.

  • Thanx for the clean demo. Very nice tones. I also heard the delay :) Have you tried the DR w/any other pedals? Also, how loud does the amp go before breakup? cheers

  • @mojjett - Thanks for your comments - they are appreciated.

Yes - I custom made an effects pedal board featuring a Boss Blues Driver BD-2, Boss Super Chorus CH1 & a Boss Digital Delay DD-3. All work well. Altho there was a bit of oscillating noise at first but I cleaned that up by putting a 2nd power supply in the FX unit to drive the delay by itself.

The Amp is clean until about 4 & from 4-5 until 10 it breaks up into that warm tube overdrive. Once something is good - it's always good!!

  • is there an echo pedal going too?

  • @gamergeek3000 - Guilty As Charged - it's a Boss DD-3 Digital Delay

  • Nice video! interesting with the acoustic

  • @stalebread31 -- Thanx Mate! I've come back to an amp again now after using a Behringer PA & Mixer System for awhile. I love this Fender amp!
