  • He's still overthrowing in 2012

  • I remember this play, I got pissed but still, it's the past, the coaching staff sucked

  • @fanofa7x its not the past, Alex Shit still sucks!

  • horrible, just horrible. but what else do we expect from Smith? but the niners keep re-signing him.

  • 49ers coaching = Losing. people need to get real the 49ers win % in all the games smith played was 38% without him it was 39%. Yes that includes the shawn hill led 49ers. One more important thing. The 49ers don't throw the ball enough to make anything happen on offense. Your qb needs to drop back at least 500 times to make anyting happen on offense. The most attempts smith has ever had in any season was 442. It was the coaching not the qb.

  • I've been a 9er fan for over 25 years and Alex Smith is the worst QB we have ever had! Tim Rattey at least threw for 400 yards one game! I stopped watching football last year when we made him a starter again! Hey Yorks u got rid of a pro bowl qb in Jeff Garcia back in 2002 (or whatever it was) now how about cutting a guy who hasnt acomplished a quarter of what Garcia did in only 4 years.Garcia's best two years in SAN FRAN = more than anything Alex has EVER done in 6 years!Shawn Hill was better!

  • I've been a 9er fan for over 25 years and Alex Smith is the worst QB we have ever had! Tim Rattey at least threw for 400 yards one game! • I was at this game. Alex Smith was playing with a torn throwing shoulder which he later had surgery on after this season. Maybe the video uploader should point that out. How many of us can make that throw with a TORN throwing shoulder? None.

  • @BandwagonTeamHater he still sucks...

  • @BandwagonTeamHater Still making excuses for Alex?

  • @UGLYSTIKCOLIN How do excuses not play a significant role? Your QB Tavaris Jackson has terrible blocking in seattle. He was getting hit left and right against the niners today and was forced into making bad throws, including an interception that shot straight up into the air because someone didn't block. Is that an "excuse" then? Tavaris has no time to throw so it's not his fault, but that still plays a significant role in how he plays. So that's an excuse right? Ok. Excuses still play a part.

  • @BandwagonTeamHater I disagree. I think Tarvaris is a below average QB and until he proves otherwise I'll think that. Also, we won't hang onto Tarvaris for 7 years trying to develop him into something he won't be- an elite QB. He's a stopgap and nothing more. Sure, he doesn't have great protection but he still takes too many sacks and does not go through his reads quickly enough.

  • @UGLYSTIKCOLIN He may be below avg but w'll never know how good he could have been. He wouold have been better had he been developed properly in Minnesota. Playing for defensive coach Childress, shuffling QBs frequently didnt help. I still dont get how ppl (including 49er fans) can blame Smith for not panning out to #1 pick expectations. We set him up to fail. What if they had the Aaron Rodgers development process? I root for QBs that never had a chance like Tarvaris, Carr, Smith, Campbell, etc.

  • @BandwagonTeamHater I don't think you can say they all were setup to fail. There have been loads of QB's who came to shitty teams and made them good. A good QB makes the team around him better- it's hardly the other way around. Peyton Manning came to a god awful Colts team, and they were god awful his 1st year. And as he got better, so did the Colts. Troy Aikman went to horrible Cowboys team. They went 1-15 his first year. Yet he got better and so did the Cowboys.

  • @UGLYSTIKCOLIN Smith not only went to a terrible team, but hes now on his 7th different system in 7 yrs. Hes never gotten a chance to really learn system. Manning had the same coordinator, qb coach, and hell even the same o-line coach for his first 13 yrs. Smith was inserted too early. He should have sit like rodgers. His offensive line got his shoulder separated 3x and idiot nolan forced him to play through one. He had 2 rookie defensive head coaches too. All of that is more than just shitty.

  • @BandwagonTeamHater Smith had decent numbers in '09 under Jimmy Raye. They kept him into 2010 and how did that work? They started 0-5. Offense was terrible. Yes, they fired him after 3 games, but even Singletary said that the new coordinator wouldn't be able to change the offense and would have to use the same terminology. Alex just isn't very good. A number 1 pick after 6 years and 1 game gets you 20-31? What's the common denominator? Alex Smith.

  • @UGLYSTIKCOLIN Hes only played a litle over 3 seasons worth of football. any 9er fan will tell you singletary was the one holding the offense back last year. He kept running. In 09 he let smith use the spread, but turned stubborn in 2010 and held the entire offense back. The common denominator is not smith. Smith has been the common result of terrible coaching. Think about if smith sat behind favre for 3 years, been in mccarthy's system for 5, and came in with receivers like jennings and driver.

  • @UGLYSTIKCOLIN I think so far this season, Alex has been proving this comment damn wrong.

  • Alex Smith is terrible. He is horribly inaccurate and terribly inconsistent.

  • Not only injuries plagued Alex Smith but every year til now theyve changed the offensive playbook. I think thats the main reason he's doing so much better this year.

  • I just keep thinking back to if Norv had never left!!!!!! Alex was a beast under his watchful eye.

I have faith in Alex tho. He has the arm for sure. We just keep putting him in 3rd & long.....our passing game is not that advanced to pick that up. Play calling has sucked big time. Then the defense stays on the field too long and gives up big plays. The weakness on D is that we have all these big hitters, but no speed!!! We are vulnerable on the edges.

  • Dumbasses who posted months ago, shame on you all.

We should get our noodle armed winner back from Detroit! Alex Faggot can go

0-5 without being benched, but my beloved noodle armed QB gets benched for losing to teams we were expected to lose to? The coach/GM are already calling this an oh-well year and are gonna decide to "develop" Alex this whole season disegaurding losses!

Stop going to the games until we trade for Shaun Hill!

  • @AllKnowingSerge

Hey einstein. Smith's QB rating the last 2 seasons have been better than Shaun Hill. So STFU!

  • @utahgs damn...he's better than Shaun Hill? He's definitely hall of fame material...

  • get rid of this overthrowing bitch! Hes fucking up my team AS WE SPEAK!

  • he sucks. he played in a gimmick offense in college. and bottom line, he sucks in the nfl.

  • Yep, thats Alex Smith for you. I love the 49ers, but they have got to get rid of this guy. Carr was a dumb decision too. Now they have not one, but two number 1 draft picks that a busts

  • @cory184

After what Smith did in only TEN games last season, he is NO longer a bust.

  • @defenderDX That has yet to be seen. He played better I'll give you that, but he needs to play well for all 16 games next season to not be considered a bust.

  • @cory184 It's already been seen. He played for 10 games having stats looking like he had played 16 games. Not to mention he had QB ratings better than other QB's like Peyton Manning. But yes, it's still not certain. Alex doesn't have to play great, he just has to play smart. All the pieces are in place. It's not only make or break for him, but for the entire 49er's season. as singletary would say, "just keep watchin"

  • @defenderDX I'll give you that. He does not have to be great next season, but he does have to be smart. Hi biggest issue in the past has not been his ability. It has been his decision making. hopefully our new guards will provide him enough protection to give him enough time to make good decisions.

  • @cory184

Definitely. Hell, for all we know he may not suck, his decision making time has just been so limited with no offensive line to guard him long enough!! Apparently he's much more confidence, he's leading OTA's and running practices. I really and truly hope that he shines. That's why I am taking a gamble this year and going all in with Alex. I have become an Alex Smith believer. I used to call him an "interception machine". Until he was brought in, in that texans game.. I was shocked

  • @defenderDX I'm not going to call myself a believe. Yet! I am a believer in Singletary though. He knows how to bring talent out of underacheiving players. As far as gambling with Alex Smith. It's not a gamble. There is no body else right now that I would trust as a QB. So Alex Smith will have to make due. All we can do is hope for the best

  • @cory184

lol its a gamble for me!! if he does terrible then shame on me!! :D but im so willing to take that risk

  • I think Alex shit his pants when he actually saw somebody open downfield. When Bryan Gilmore is your best WR,- you got problems. lol Smith finally has what he needs around him, and is healthy,- 2010 is his make or break year. NINERS!

  • lol this is in 2007 when he was playing with a shoulder fracture on his throwing shoulder nuce try thhough(btw alex o line worse than russel)

  • hes young he has a lot to learn but still he is good

  • mara4ce ...this is wut im sayin...your on alex smiths nuts....niner fans make all these excuses why smith sucked...you dont here raider fans sayin...he has a bad o-line...which he does...or any of that bullshit...we justsay fuck him because he doesnt get better...#1 overall?...you should be better than he is....both jamarcus and smith

  • just get off alix smiths nuts niner fans... for real..1st overall pick..its been 5 years now...and he has no line...im a raider fan and u think us raider fans r gonna give jamarcus an excuse like that...we say fuck jamarcus...just like the niner fans should say fuck alex smith

  • @matt41234 You cannot compare Jamarcus to Alex and yes fuck Jamarcus and the Raiders

  • The QB position is the hardest to learn in the NFL. But hey look at Alex now. He looks a lot better than he did in the past.

  • @BasharCali49

mentally yes, physically its the easiest.

  • @BasharCali49

i personally am a Bears fan, but i am also an Alex Smith fan. I think he will do just fine now that he has Jim Harbough showing him the ropes.

  • @ModalTrains4884 Honestly I lost a lot of faith in Alex Smith. He has yet to prove that he's a gamer and he pads his stats against weak teams. Yet whenever we play good teams he either does really bad or he doesn't know how to win the close games. I'm a Harbaugh backer but I don't think he's a miracle worker either.

  • @BasharCali49

I deff kno what you're saying man. I guess we will see what happens. I mean, crazier things have happened before in the NFL.

  • i agree with the guy down one, i mean he was young, hurt, playing with a bad oline, and also nobody to throw to, i know he isnt exactly protected in the pocket though

    still needs more linemen

  • Alex Smith is finally back! He had been injured all those seasons where he sucked big time, so those don't count. Just give him a few more years to really show you 49ers fans what he can do!

  • @rhettrongun Nope. He's still a bust.

  • @UGLYSTIKCOLIN No shit, I was joking.

  • @UGLYSTIKCOLIN haha, seems you aren't the only person to think I was being serious. Sorry for being rude then. Yep, I agree 100%. That guy still blows & he's had more than his fair shot to make it in the NFL.

  • @rhettrongun You need to work on your sarcasm, but no offense taken.

  • I hope Alex become one of those success stories, where a man overcome great obstacles, and win at the end! Great material for "America's game", when 49ers win Superbowl!

  • shakdva: You're delusional. And another alex smith apologist to boot. This guys sucks and will NEVER be a winner.

  • Well, here comes Monday night, we'll see who will laugh last

  • shakdva: Thursday night shakdva, thursday night. Oh, and I will be waiting for the pre-programed response from you smithbots. Alex smith will throw at LEAST 2 INTs and maybe have one fumble in costing us the game. After that you smithbots will probably use the ol' "let's keep with smith, he looked ok, he is turning the corner, I an feel it" excuse for the nteenth time, or the ol' "those ints weren't smith's fault". Then you will talk of how he has improved because of his 1 garbage time TD.

  • Okay, you're right, it's Thursday night :) Hey man, nobody is happy because of turnovers, and maybe he should be more aggressive. But Rich Gannon said it comes with familiarity with system. Shaun Hill maybe has all intangibles to be leader, but his physical tools are sub par, with him, we have no chance to contend, you saw what happened against Atlanta.

In last 3 games, it was 1 drive and it is a win! Every game. Just 1 drive to pull it off every time! It is around the corner, man, it's obvious

  • shakdva: Um, dude. Smith creates too many turnovers. All of those lead to points. Seriously, look at all of his games this year. He gets his TDs in "garbage time". Hill may not be as "exciting", but damn, I see some wins. The only wins out of the last few seasons to be consistent, came from Hill.

WOW...I just realized how sad the state of sports affairs were in the Bay Area. LAME.

Maybe we should spend our money elsewhere? Just my thought.

  • Defense is there, every time giving team chance to win.Did you watch 1st NFL offense against San Fran? Man, 18-14!18 points! I bet New Orleans game would be similar. When opponents had enough gametape on Hill,we had 10 points in whole Atlanta game, and 0 at halftime against Texans.I'm afraid Hill doesn't give us chance.

And last thing:Don't give up on our 9ers,don't quit when you are hardest hit.

Maybe you'll cheer up if you see youtube video for "don't quit poem",and persevere trough rough times

  • shakdva: Dude, how long are you smith zombies gonna keep making excuses for this guy? HE SUCKS!

  • When we are in Playoffs, your faith will be back, and it is not all about one player, this is The Ultimate team sport! Singletary is taking whole team in right direction, every game we lost this year (except Atlanta) could be win, and record could be 7-1! Look at the scores, one drive decided every game. We are there, we will turn the corner, and you'll be faithful again.

You lost your faith because you didn't see it for so long, but the time will come, you'll be rewarded 'cos you're 9er fan!

  • could be 7-1

    shoulda,woulda,coulda...thats loser speak

  • Yeah, yeah, go watch your Tim Tebow while you still got him. Tell me, what is winner speak, because you must be some kind of winner, a proud College Football team fan?

I really like guys like you, what kind of winner are you, to call people losers? You must have won it all, I'm sure.

Keep your mouth running, San Francisco is there, it will be the truth on the field, on Thursday and on

  • skakdva: OMG! Dude, what do you mean "truth on the field thursday". Dude, the truth is already there. It's not like we haven't seen it before. It's not like we are saying this off NO experience watching the guy. I have seen him, and trust me, he is NOT the goods people think he can be. That's your problems, its always next time with this guy. And you will be making the same excuses come thursday after the guy throws away the game. It will be another, "don't give up on him" excuse.

  • Well, it's your problem to be stuck in the past, you are 2 years back in the past. Did you really think Frank Gore is going to be something when he had career record 50 yards in one game? And he became great!

Do you really never have seen anything change? For crying out loud, we were 2-14 in 2005, how do you explain our score now? How it is possible for Miami to go from 1-15 to playoffs next year?

If everything is a CONSTANT, why bother to watch the game, if champion is every year the same?!!!

  • Um, dude. Frank gore had a decent rookie season, and a very good second one. It's not like he has just gotten good this year. Alex smith has had 5 seasons, and nothing but failure. How long do you have to wait? How many games do you have to throw away? When will people just realize that this guy will never be a winner. But not only that, he doesn't put up the stats to justify keeping him in. He sucks.

  • I believe in change, you don't, it's simple as that. You must be watching this game for short period of time if you still can't accept that change is possible and probable in this NFL world.

Every year "miracle" happens, "cinderellas" or how do you call it. But cinderella does not happen over night, and to me it is obvious that here in SF great things are coming, many are here (look at the D, this rookie Crabtree, our No. 52), we are contenders once again

  • shakdva: You believe in "change"? LOL. You must have voted obama. And like Obama, smith will not bring the change you are looking for. That's the problem with you guys. No matter how many time this guy fails, you still think he has some untapped potential. Every year is supposedly supposed to be his breakout season. He will never have one. He is maxed on his potential. And grasping for straws on a cinderella miracle is not only stupid but just unrealistic. You guys need to come to terms.

  • Why are you watching the game if everything is every time the same? If nothing changes?

Why don't you find some kind of interesting sport and league, where every season has new champion, and every year different playoff teams?

Would it be cool if NFL is just like that, but too bad, in NFL every season is the same, every year Seahawks win the west, and Cardinals will never be in playoffs, not to mention to play in Superbowl... Nothing ever changed, so it will not start now... OMG!

  • shakdva: Don't even attempt to tell me smith played a good game. or even an average one.

  • And don't you tell me Cutler played a good game. W is a W, and under such tough circumstances, I mean, defense was huge: 5 interceptions, it's like Ravens kind of a defense!

This is a team sport, no one man can do it all

  • @shakdva Oh, so because cutler had a worse game than alex smith, we should still keep him in? LOL. God, you apologists are sad.

  • And what do you want from him? To play like Payton Manning right away? He is getting better after every game, next is Green Bay, there is plenty of time to get ready for Frozen Thundra, so, we'll wait and see.

Orion, I don't understand you at all. You deserve to have team like Raiders, not 49ers. To root for such a bad and hopeless team. You sounds like worst kind of fan - zero faith, just nagging. Who would you like? JaMarcus Russell? I don't know what do you want 49ers to do to make you happy

  • Dude, you're the won who deserves to be rooting for the raiders. The niners wont give up on a proven failure. No, I didn't want him to be peyton manning, I just wanted a stable QB. In 5 years this guy hasn't provided any of that. At what point do you give up on a failed experiment?

  • It's a team sport, Randy Moss wasn't special at all when he played for Raiders, and when he went to New England, he had Hall of Fame season, set records of all time.

Now Alex has better supporting cast then ever, it is not fair to judge him not including all bad circumstances. For me, his last game before injury was Seattle when Rocky Bernard injured him. After that, his shoulder was damaged for 2 years, what kind of severe injury it must have been? And now he's back, he won again.

  • shakdva: Dude, he is playing poorly. LOL.

  • He won the game. When 49ers needed long drive, offense delivered it. If there weren't that field goal in 4th quarter, Cutler would drive Bears for field goal, and the game would be lost.

We had the drive to win this game, and made it. Not like in previous 3 games. It is obviously better situation, improving from week to week. Don't forget this is team sport, if you do not understand that, better change sport you watch, go watch golf.

  • shakdva: Improving? Are you serious? 80 yards and an interception was not improving.

  • Okay, if you don't watch game, but just reading the stats, then keep looking at numbers. The numbers don't lie. Cutler had 300 yards, he is awesome, absolutely fantastic QB, we love him! Just keep throwing everywhere, to everybody! Doesn't matter if it's 49ers or Bears, just throw it! That is so cool! Oh, my, why didn't Alex throw it to everybody, it's so sad...

  • We had 5 ints and barely escaped with a 10-6 win. The truth is our offense is abysmal, Smith sucks, Raye blows, and our defense is good against the run, but not overall great. We should be counting our lucky stars Cutler is the Bears qb, if it was anyone else back there i'm positive we lose that game.

  • I don't understand why didn't any other team took 5 interceptions against that Cutler? Defensive performances like this are far too rare, how many did you watch? This was something special, and those interceptions somebody had to snatch, somebody had to make the play.

Were that Ravens or Steelers? No, it was 49ers defense! Nobody handed us game, we took it, and denied them to go into end zone, period.

  • You must not know to much about cutler. He is prone to throw int's. It was not special, it was a qb making horrible throws, what do you think is going to happen? cutler basically gave the 49ers the game, and we walk out with 10 points to show for it? Like i said, any other qb, and we lose that game.

  • Take it easy, Smith is going to be great. Just give him a couple more years. Never in all my years of watching football(over 20 years) have i seen a qb get so many second chances and excuses. To all Alex Smith homers, he blows, end of story.

  • haha what the fuck do you have to say now hater? look at alex now hes tearing secondaries apart

  • What i have to say is what i've thought all along. Smith is not the answer.Whenever he's in a pressure situation, he folds. Great qb's come thru in the clutch. Throwing for lots of yards against below average defenses is not impressive at all. (jaguars, seahawks) A great qb performs at a high level consistently and comes thru in the clutch, Alex does neither.

  • @JMullown Alex has no line, you name me a top 5 QB that's successful with no line, anyone. Indy, NO, Philly, Dallas, Minn, SD, Baltimore, I could go on, they all have a solid line in common and that's all we need. Fucken Raider fan.

  • It's always somebody else's fault isnt it? Smith doesnt have an all pro oline but its not the worst. The oline gave Smith some pretty solid protection on numerous occasions last season and Alex still found a way to fall on his face. The guy is just not football smart and he's not a playmaker.yes he's got the physical tools, but has never shown the intangibles that all the great players have. When the chips are down he's done little more than screw up and lose games. That's not a leader.

  • @JMullown Cosigned to infinity.

  • @JMullown Are you an NFL QB? Why don't you show him how it's done, if you don't posses the skills Smith does, what right do you have to criticize them. You don't see Alex Smith criticizing how you flip burgers now do you. Stay in your muthafucken lane fucken Raider fan

  • also, Mcnabb and Flacco are not top 5 qb's.

  • also, Mcnabb and Flacco are not top 5 qb's.

  • shakdva: You're kidding right? Do you not see my point with you smithbots? No matter how many times this guy continues to lose you make excuses for him. Yet, shaun hill at least wins some games and he is taken off the starting role. It's a joke! That's what you don't get. There is no "next time" with this guy. There is no "untapped potential" with this guy. He is as good as he ever is gonna get. Just face reality. Quit living in this dreamland where alex smith is capable of winning a game.

  • @Orion1232 I have been a 49er fan all my life. Thats what I keep telling everybody. the team is building to be great again in the future, but Smith has to step up or go.

  • they said this kid, was no good, 20 years old when he came into the NFL, they want a fricking miracle but development takes time and that idiot Nolan pushed this kid to the edge. A lot of people wrote him off......."oh, he's a bust" "oh he's shitty" this and that. ..........HMMMM, I WONDER.........I REALLY WONDER what I saw yesterday was amazing.

he just looked different. calm, confident, those passes were like Payton Manning style was amazed.

    HE'S BACK....................LOL HAHAHA ! I

  • he beasted yesterday

  • this basically tells the story of alex smiths career. maybe one day he'll come around lol ... i doubt it tho

  • i was there hahaha i remember that day is was cursing so much

  • Alex Smith had a 3rd degree separation in his shoulder lay off won't you?His doctor said to Nolan not to play him but Nolan was an idiot and played him and besides Smith made it to a Division 1 college to play football and he made it to the NFL if you're so good, let's see you do that

  • lmao at Smith's reaction at :33

  • And just look at his footwork! If you're shoulder's bothering you, that's no excuse for that kind of footwork. Smith is worthless. He's worse than Ryan Leaf.

  • he always has a positive attitude so you have to give him that

  • Yeah, that is a key of resilience!

  • Not to mention locking on to receivers, poor decision making, not anticipating throws, playing way too tentative.

  • seriously like the fact that hes still givin it his all is y i dnt want em 2 git cut lol

  • Wow, MasterofOssus, you must be some kind of rocket scientist!

  • It was his first game back is no excuse. He's been overthrowing receivers and flat out sucking his whole career. Get rid of him already.

  • This was the first game he came back with a 3rd degree separated shoulder and was clinically not supposed to play but Nolan let him anyway.

  • i thinks eventually smith will turn it around

  • No. He wont.

  • So whiner fans can no longer talk shit about JR from the Raiders.

  • Comment removed

  • yo the tight end alex smith that was on the bucs went to the pats not the 49 qb alex smith lol

  • welcome to New England, if any1 can turn him around its the Patriots

  • honestly....any quarter back can look good when they are on the Patriots team. they have many weapons, it doesnt mean he will be truely good.

  • first look at Randy Moss, Patriots changed his image from a troublemaker like alex smith, to a superstar again, and if you want to be a good team in the NFL your gonna need a good QB and good receivers, so don't go around dissing the Patriots, look at the Colts they have Peyton, had Harrison, have Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark is a sneek WR on their team so just dont go around saying that Brady is only good cuz of his receivers, all good QB's have to have good receivers (basic principal)

  • Randy moss was always good (talent-wise). and i was only referring to Alex Smith. I personally believe Brady was always good, just no one ever gave him at chance to show his skills until he replaced Bledsoe.

What im trying to say is, just because Alex is on the Patriots, doesnt mean he will be "good".....he might look good, but i dont think it would be real talent.

  • i never said Smith had good telent i'm just saying, Smith is supposedly a troublemaker and the Patriots organization can probably fix that

  • Lets look at Matt Cassel. If he sucks this year you're dead wrong about the alex smith turn around.

  • i HoPe U GuYz KNoW THaT THiS iS NoT THe AleX SMiTH THaT GoT TraDeD To THe PaTs , iT WaS The OTHeR SMiTH ( TE FoR Da BuCs )

  • oh and the niners haven't had a good receiver and O line in many years.

  • cant really blame smith for his performance...

he was rushed into the NFL.....they should of waited a season or two like Aaron Rodgers.

he had 7 OC in the past 7 years? am i correct on that?

    bad relationship with mike nolan

injured alot and again i believe he was rushed back into the field when he wasn't 100%

  • At least he made the right read in this one... that's certainly an improvement, no? lol

  • alex smith will win the starting job and he will prove everyone wrong

  • i hope he wins the starting job, just cuz i feel bad for the guy. hopefully he ends up being good.

  • wtf r u stupid get off his dick shaun hill 10 times better

  • Alex Smith sucks dick

  • like you dont??you're just hating because you can't even play football.ahaha

  • well it's fact

    you can't argue with facts

  • He was injured during this stretch of the 2007 season.

  • Hahaha he was making these sort of passes during most of the 2008 pre-season as well. He's bench meat now.

  • The Shaun Hill Era has begun.

  • 11-5 niners all the way and mecheal vick is ganna take over watchy and see

  • 49ers make the playoffs in 2009 on the arm of Alex Smith - MARK IT DOWN

  • Im marking it DOWN cuz it wont happen LOL!!

  • Expect more of that if he comes back in 2009. Fans will be chanting Shaun Hill all year until they bring him back after it's too late.

  • this was a funny play, everything was perfect except the timing of the QB and receiver. the throw had great touch and arc and would have been a footrace for the endzone if the receiver were able to run through the catch.

what went sour was the throw just came a half a second too soon. smith has had this problem because he has taken so many sacks since playing half of 2005.

i think hes gonna be a niner again. hell be released and resigned, as a backup with starter incentives.

  • I really hope he can get something going with his career. He's a great person and I wish him the best but on the field before and after his injury he's been just plain "BLAH", he's never looked exciting to me at all.

  • bowesi, football is not alex smiths game period

  • Looks like none of this talk seems to matter anymore, since they made JT O'Sullivan the starting QB.

  • this looked like a catchable ball from my view point i wish they could have shown the reciever, lee evans would have halled that pass in and ran for 6.

  • alex smith was hurt, he shoulda just got the surgery right away instead of waiting and seeing

  • alex smith is a white micheal vick. throwing is not his game.

  • he was injured

  • I would definitely chalk this one up to his shoulder problems. Not to make excuses for him, but after he came back from the shoulder separation, it clearly affected his play. You could even tell by his body language. As someone else in here said, give him at least one more year and then call it quits if it doesn't work out.

  • I agree, he was playing good enough before the injury, after the injury he shouldn't have played at all, i blame Mike Nolan for continually pressuring Smith.

  • His play before the injury was okay, but I agree, Nolan pressuring him and rushing him back so quickly didn't help matters either.

The whole year was a disappointment. Plain and simple.

  • Alex Smith DOES need one more year. This is his best oppurtiny. Atleast someone knows this guys potential.

  • 1 thing that alex has missed during his entire career w/the 49ers is, CONSISTENT POISE IN THE POCKET. he gets mentally rattled 2 much in the pocket and this play showed it clearly. when will the 49ers acknowledge the fact that alex simply isn't a pocket passer. the one year he had reasonable success was when NORV was here, and norv made it clear that alex was not going 2 spend the majority of his snaps in the pocket. what resulted was vast improvement. let's hope MARTZ plays 2 alex's strengths

  • im not giving up...Im giving Alex Smith 1 more year before i call it quits....i don't like putting Shaun Hill as are starting qb...i want a franchise qb so that we could watch the 49ers have winning season and championships for at least a DECADE!!

  • same here! alex smith is still yur guy

  • Yeah, his arm was kind of dangling from the socket in this game, in Seattle, and the home game against New Orleans last season.

  • smith has the talent. Theres another video on youtube that shows what hes got. If he can stay injury free, he should have a big 2008.

  • funny how this is play posted AFTER THE SHOULDER SEPERATION!

  • Im sorry San Fran, you need a new QB, cause Alex Smith sucks

  • yea he did that alot last year. Not sure if it was due to that rib injury that was nagging him. He better bulk up and get use to getting hit in martz system

  • You can see his arm, when releasing, went awkwardly upwards. Weird throwing technique he's got there.
