Her parents are quite religious. Based on what Kate is saying, I think they weren't supportive of Jon and Kate using in vitro fertilization because it goes against many Christian beliefs.

I read that Kate refused all donations of anything used from her father's church and even turned down the donation of a van because it was the wrong color.

@JolSummerville Well, they're still Jon's babies even if they are divorced, and Jon isn't involved with them so much. But, I guess Kate was also just looking at the past back when the kids were born when she said "our babies" when she and Jon were still together.
