thought this video was amazing, my aunt had lung cancer but thanks to my small towns amazing support and dedication to our family she was able to get a new lung, unfortunatly she died shortly afterwards due to other illnesses, but im very proud of your son who has the strength to pull through this! i hope he lives to be 100 and lives every day happily!
I was suppose to go see a heart transplant specialist or someone, to see if I'm eligiable to have a heart transplant, but I was scared of the risks so I didn't go but I just a open heart surgery and my doc said my heart is fine now, all I need now is to take meds for the rest of my life. I hope Shawn will live happily with his new heart though :] i'm happy that he survived that major surgery even though he had to go through so much with it, he was still able to go home ^_^
I was at Lucile Packard the same time he was I hope he's doing well. He always looked tired when I saw him. I remember the clown also he was pretty cool he gave me a clown nose lol. Anyways good luck with the rest of your life an I hope you and your family are doing well.
im soo happy for shawn. i am also a HLHS but i have not gotten a HEART TRANSPLAT! but i REALLY REALLY NEED ONE IM JUST GLAD SHAWN HAS GOT HIS AND IS HEALTHY. GOD BLESS HIM AND OTHER HLHS LIKE ME AND SHAWN! ♥♥

your story was very touching shawn never give up fighting i hope my son will be as strong as you have been he also has a Hypoplastic heart hes only 11 months and has had two surgerys god bless you shaw
My son is now three and considered stable but to get to this point, it has taken two surgeries, numerous emergency room visits, and unfortunately quite a few close calls. I think it is something only parents who have gone through such an ordeal can understand and I am happy to hear that your son is well on his way to recovery. I wish the best for you and your family and pray that your son gets better soon.
Oh gosh... what a wonderful video. It brought a flood of tears to my eyes. Like you, Lucile Packard is an all too familiar place for me and my family. My son spent the first two months of his life there and has endured a long and scary road to recovery. Your video brought back so many emotions and makes me once again grateful to Lucile Packard and its staff for all of the wonderful work they do. Raji (shown in one of the first pics) was a huge help during our stay and we absolutely love her.
@FSXMASTER223 about 2 weeks after Shawn's heart transplant, he was started on very high doses of a powerful steroid called Prednisone. One of the many side effects is the swelling - especially in the face and shoulder blades. He is still on prednisone - even though it has been 20 months since transplant, but it is at such low doses - he looks like himself again, only stronger =) Shawn is doing incredible =)
PRES = Posterior Reversible Enteropathy Syndrome, it is very, very rare and is brought on by the immunosuppression drugs - for Shawn it was cyclosporine AND prograf. He will be on anti-seizure medications for the rest of his life and has had lingering trouble because of the trauma to his brain ~ basically the reaction to the meds caused his brain to literally bleed out. The veins in his brains were either swollen or bled out.....however, considering how critical he WAS...he is now great.
Shawn is amazing..I had my heart transplant on Aug 15th 2008 and I know how hard it was as a 28 year old man...I cannot belive the strength he and his family has showed...I also love hockey (go flames go) and started playing again last January...After what shwan has been through he will be able to do anything. Best of luck and hope to see some videos of shawn playing with the sharks one day....Scott Ouellette
