I absolutely love the intro song for this show. I used to watch this show years ago back in between the late 80s and the early 90s on HBO. This show is without a doubt a timeless classic.
I wish they explored all the other books as they did them a lot of justice using up 13 eps for the 4 books they covered. Almost wish they were more accurate as I was surprised to read the second and find, unlike the series, Dorothy had nothing to do with it. This was always an early morning favorite before headed to school. Lost cable before I could tape them all and lost the only full tape I had. Somewhat aggravating they only released the 90 minute films to DVD and made them obscure as Hell.
@exposed97 Japan always WAS on the cutting edge of technology and artwork. I have my own theory that instead of spending time on film like Godzilla their efforts were focused in Animation. It is the same with their tech. I'd bet I could go back in time 20 years and It would be very similar to all the modern devices we'd have today.
First saw it on HBO in 1990 when I was 8 years old and was hooked. Was much more suspenseful and epic than the famous 1939 movie; it's too bad the series didn't continue into the later Oz books.
holy fuckin shit I remember seeing this when I was like 4 years old it used to be on at 5 in the frickin am my mom had to wake me up then and take me to daycare at 6 so Id watch this, Ive been wondering about this and it, I remember nothing other than Tick Tock one ep where theyre in a bolw and this intro and Im 22 now
does anyone know a link to the 1987 movies the movies i want the links to are Ozma of Oz (1987) , Emerald City of Oz (1987), The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1987)?
Creepiest cartoon ever I remember watching this show when I was younger and it actually scared me. Actually a lot of cartoons used to scare the opening theme to the X-Men cartoon used to scare me.
Wow...I used to watch this when I was probably about 7 years old or something. Used to be on Channel 4 in the UK at about 6:30am. I always remembered this intro song!
I was pissed when this took the place of Robinson Sucroe on "This" in the morning, but it's grown on me now. I like how they follow the books and not simply regurgitate the MGM interpretation.
this is the one I remember, I just didn't realize it was computer graphics at the time. This is like 5 years before reboot, so I'd never thought about it... also I was 4.
Hey everyone - the full series is being posted online by The Cookie Jar Company - formerly Cinar. Just Google search Jaroo to find them. Unfortunately they have now removed episodes 1 and 2 but you can currently watch from episode 3 onwards, plus they have posted the first feature length.
I was about 2 when this came to the UK but I was 4 or 5 by the time it finished so I can JUST remember it! I believe it was the very first Anime like cartoon I ever had seen and now that I've seen the intro it brings back memories of when I used to watch it when I was 4 to 5. I actually miss it, too bad you can't get all the original episodes that haven't been cut on DVD in english.
This lame cartoon is on instead of Robinson Sucroe now. Sorry, but I just think Sucroe was a lot more fun than this. Dorothy really bugs me in this too.
Yeah, there were 52 episodes which (in English at least) have only ever been released as 4 90 minute feature lengths, so a great deal was lost in the edit.
However, you can find the complete series in a number of other languages.
still remember watching this show like it was yesterday , here in the UK it was broadcasted on channel 4 from 1994 untill 1997 at 3:00pm every weekday =]
loved it and now im 18 i still love watching it haha
Yeah this theme as well as this cartoon certainly brings back a lot of memories. I wonder who sings this song? This person has a very good voice! Excellent! I am happy to see a cartoon from my childhood. I feel like I am going back in time will this version of The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz ever be released on DVD? Take care.
Thuis was my favourite show and still is. Unfortunately when I was eight I got obsessed with it as it was the only show I watched as a result of which it was taped over though I ingeniously preserved one tape but now as an adult, I enjoy lots of other shows equally so there is no problem. Any chance of it comming out on Region 2 at any point?
Who is the owner of the English release. is it still Cinar? I thought they were dead. Maybe whomever they are holding out for more support. This seems crazy because anyone interested in a box-set of heavily edited discs would want the actual thing its like one painfully acute trailer.
Sure, I am launching a website about it soon. As far as I am aware, no where is televising the show now or any time soon. However, you can buy the four feature lengths on DVD and the entire series in French and Japanese. The owner of the English language home release rights has no plans to release the entire series.
I do not think you would be breaking laws. As long as there is no personal gain (money) it is alright. I have found many full length movies on youtube, posted in parts and they are still on here. Ernest Goes to Camp, Alice in Wonderland and CareBears are a few I found. Think it over, I'm sure many people on youtube would enjoy it.

This is indeed the original intro (sort of)
Its an intro that they put together using computer graphics and clips from the show. It's what they used for the english version of the show.
Being an anime, chances are the show had a different intro for the Japanese version.
ToasterPig 2 years ago
Oh yeah - I have seen the Japanese intro before.
