Here's a version by Jaco himself, what I mean with free. You'll hear certain patterns coming back, in the rhythm that they were originally played. Jaco goes much further than this in live shows. These are great learning sources. Keep grooving! ciao!

Impressive. A few small advices; you are giving it your own, feel. And that's good. That's what my teacher also told me. When you can play it like Jaco, then try to play the song, as if it were your own. For this song I would recommend playing it in time, with a metronome. There's a rhythm in this song that's part of the compositional idea, that comes out best, when you keep a steady 4/4 measure. If you want to play it freely, though, go all the way, and loose the beat completely.

Great work, but I have a few questions. When you play the D# harmonic you stretch your hand the way Jaco does, but I found using your thumb (as you do for the last chord) it makes staying in time a little easier. Also for the last chord you don't do the stretch for the EM7(b5) that is the chord that Jaco plays. Is that a style choice? Again really nicely done, it'll be perfect in no time!

Nice work. Do you play upright bass in Middle School? My Daughter just started playing since playing piano, guitar and ukelele. I had to buy her a short bass Epi EB 0 since it was the most comfortable. What do you like about this instrument, weight? She is learning slap and finger style. A little harder to do on the EB 0 , She is 12 and likes the idea that ther aren't many girl bass players.
