They went berserk at first, but later Wheeljack gave them intelligence (though not particularly great intelligence) and they controlled their destructive urges, but they still often disobeyed Optimus' orders and went rogue a few times.

i personally think they don't include Snarl in the movie b/c he's too much of a badass. he's basically as tough as Grimlock. add Snarl to the other 4 and they'd be able to take Devastator and everyone else no problem.

Hey guys, if you notice the G1 episodes, there are all together 5 (FIVE) dinobots. But in the animated movie in the 80's "Transformers the Movie", there are only 4 (FOUR) of them. can anyone tell why is it like that?

@MattThorne Only semi-official. It was made by official sources, but there's never been any indication in the main continuities that the G1 Dinobots could combine, and The Beast was generally thought to suck by the fans. Either way, it's never made it to the main stories.

The only other reference was the combining Dinobot toys from the Energon line, and they weren't terribly great either. There have been a lot of fan-produced Dinobot combiners, though.

@MattThorne highly official, you can look it up. and adding on to what Track said, Grimlock only did it because the decepticons were about to totally win, and when they combined into the beast, they won, but the beast had to be killed to stop it. I am not totally sure how it fits in with the main storyline, but it is a real part of the Transformers series.

With the Autobots moments from death (some several moments past death) Grimlock laid all his cards on the table and combined with his team mates into The Beast. After killing the Decepticon combiners, and any Decepticon foolish enough to attack him, he turned on the Autobots. Optimus Prime attempted to reason with him, but to no avail. The Autobots were forced to kill him, which was much easier said than done.
