  • Not enough Sean Bean.

  • Thumbs up if you know who Martin Freeman is.

  • 0:57 reminds me of the guy who played dumbledore in the HP movies.. correct me if i am wrong

  • charon carro baro haha barro

  • PRECIOUSSSS :D

  • Cant wait for this! The LOTR trilogy was dead set amazing and ive watched it so many times i could take all the actors roles because i know all there lines!

Cant wait for the Hobbit! The trailer is epic, Peter jackson is a legend and fuck the haters =D

    Thumbs up if agreed =D

  • can not wait for this to come out!!

  • Also PJ took to much liberty in changing quite a bit of Arwen's role in LOTR, for instance it was Glorfindel and not Arwen that met up with the Hobbits on their way to Rivendell. I really believe if PJ didn't make those changes and kept to Tolkiens original manuscript then the movie would've become a mania and would've make Harry Potter a joke.

  • @nat00ben06: Really, aside from the Glorfindel thing (which was a pretty minor thing, as Glorfindel doesn't play a real role elsewhere in LOTR), most of the expansion of the Arwen/Aragorn story was derived from the LOTR Appendices ... so I wouldn't say it represented a real "change" in Arwen's role.

  • @drdaveoldguy Ok dave but still being not true to the book I would of rather seen Glorfindel there anyway. Also I might add the rather huge omission of farmer maggot other then to see a sickle rising above some corn stalks and hearing a voice in the distance. I liked all that part in fact I think the movie moved to quick, the quick shots and dramatic angle shots made me unable to appreciate LOTR!

  • God have I missed THIS!

  • Where the hell is my Legolas?

  • @dogwill1: I believe he had just shot his first scenes not long before the trailer came out. I suspect he'll mostly be in the second film in any case ... Bloom said in an interview that he'll be shoot scenes off and on throughout 2012.

  • @drdaveoldguy Oh really? I didn't watch the interview. Btw, thank you.

  • @dogwill1 Technically Legolas wasn't in the hobbit, that's entirely a machination of Peter Jackson.

  • @ousooners5193: It's true that Legolas was not explicitly mentioned in "The Hobbit," but his involvement in the story comes directly from Tolkien, based on several references in FotR. To say it is "entirely a machination of Peter Jackson" is fundamentally incorrect. Jackson is just pulling in relevant details about the story from other Tolkien writings.

  • @drdaveoldguy Yes I'm aware he was certainly alive at the time but as far as I know he was never involved in the story of The Hobbit either directly or indirectly.

  • @ousooners5193: Much of it is in "Fellowship of the Ring" where it's explained that he is from the Elven kingdom of northern Mirkwood, and in fact is the son of the king ... the same one that was so key in "The Hobbit." There is also an exchange between Legolas and Gloin during the Council of Elrond where Gloin complains about his treatment at the hands of Legolas and his people. Between that exchange and his general status as a warrior prince, it's pretty clear he was involved.

  • @dogwill1 He is in the movie... either part one or part 2 but his role is limited and will only be seen in specific scenes. =(

  • The first time I watched the trailer was when I saw Tin-Tin, and I almost threw my popcorn up in excitement! I was the only one in the theater who squealed like a little girl...lol

  • this looks gay

  • @Masteroiece Well why did you watch the trailer? if you think that dont watch it duh.

  • what a way to end to our existence. Watch the the hobbit on the 14th and then die on the 21st. i cant think of a better way to end

  • @short0411 haha yea watch part 1 of the hobbit die not seeing the second part

  • @short0411 Silmarillion the movie?

  • @EPiCsAuCeE i didn't even know there were talks about a movie, just one more thing for humanity to fight for

  • @MrAdamhill1992 I am very much aware that I am not the only person to like Tolkien, that I'm quite far from it, in fact. I was just saying that because he didn't read the books, he wasn't likely to know those things. I'm aware why they cut those scenes out, though I wish they hadn't. I would also like to point out that I said the movies would be too long for MOST people, not all.

  • @noblefjn I think it's because it might be coming out as 2 movies one called an unexpected journey, the other there and back again.

  • There going to have to change a fair bit in the way of the story as the dwarves are more of a burden than help in the book :/

  • HOLY IT IS SO MUCH EPICNESS THAT I FARTED BLOOD!!!

  • @jody024 I said most.... Trust me, I'm the same.

  • i hope there will be a special extended version again !

  • This story was written to be read aloud for people to imagine it.

I know because my dad read the hobbit to me, out of a big golden book, when I was 10ish.

    it was epic

  • awsome song

  • isnt the hobbit actually called "there and back again, a hobbits tale"? why do you think they would change it?

  • @noblefjn: Actually, it's called "The Hobbit or There and Back Again." (No "hobbit's tale" ... at least in my copy.) They are making it into two films, and wanted to give them slightly different names. The first is "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" which is a variant of the title of Chap.1 ("An Unexpected Party"). The second film will be called "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" ... which is more along the lines of what you were thinking.

  • Where the fuck is MA PRECIAS

  • @MtGuyful LOL, he is with DA BRUDDAHS

  • Bombadil...maybe in the Hobbit? It is a smaller book than any one vol. of LOTR. maybe more details.

  • damn at first i thought this was fake

i fapped to the realisation this is actually a real movie trailer

  • ohhh shiiii....precious is back!!!

  • loin <3

  • :fapfapfap:

    :icame:

    :awwyeah:

  • Can someone tell me WTH is Legolas going to appear in the movie?? Actually, the first time I've heard Orlando Bloom was going to be in it, I thought that he was going to play Thranduil's role -after all, he was his father-. But Legolas?? He DID NOT appear in the book!!!. Love him, really, but still can't understand it... Hope they won't arruinate the story... :(

  • @lisswann23 well it's possible he will appear in his fathers court at some stage, i mean he is the prince of mirkwood afterall so he's bound to be there

  • @lisswann23: Jackson is drawing on other Tolkien writings (esp. LOTR, including the Appendices) to add details and context to the story of Bilbo's adventure that aren't included in "The Hobbit." Since Legolas is a warrior prince in the elven kingdom that is such a big part of the latter part of the story, it makes sense for him to be there. Tolkien himself, in FotR, indicates that he was involved in the story. For those same reasons, Galadriel and Saruman will also appear.

  • nerdie movie but i likie

  • I've been watching it once a day for the past month, and will CONTINUE to do so until December 14.

  • has anyone else watched this at least 50 times? o_0

I cant stop! I cant wait till December D:

  • anyone know the song at 0.50? I love it

  • @hyperchick55 "The Misty Mountains Cold" is the song :) I Can't stop listening to it either. It's amazing :) Especially since Richard Armitage is singing in it ;) I Love him.

  • Anyone else got shivers when the song started.

  • @kavtoM Yes I love that song so powerful

  • @kavtoM Yes I got shivers.. I could'nt breath when I saw Richard Armitage was in the movie :)

  • @TheMightyBoosh616 Good Grief I didn't even realize that was Richard Armitage until I read your post. I LOVED him in North and South.

  • of course! Then one by one they all start standing...I am NOTHING short of pumped for this movie!

  • Anyone else stupid enough to make a movie in 2012 shouldn't hope for any awards of awesomeness

  • I'm quite excited the LOTR trilogy kept mostly to the books so I'm excited to compare

    My only worry

They make it youth friendly by making the dwarves clumsy and more for comedic relief as this day and age views dwarves

That would break my heart into 1 million pieces

    Still really excited though

  • one word: AMPED!

  • Hopefully being split into 2 parts they wont miss much out and do it well, not just stretch it out to make more money...

  • Bagginses.... What is a bagginses?

  • As soon as both parts come out on dvd im gonna watch 'em all back to back, from the hobbit, to the return of the king.

Oh how i love my life..

  • When i watch this, i get a feeling and i'm suddenly drawn to the fact i really want to see this and it will be epic. That feeling happens at about 1:48 :D

  • really looking forward to see how they portray Beorn

  • Go see The Hobbit 1977 if you havent. Its not bad. But this, IS EPIC!

  • 0:48 Best part. Without a doubt. Looking forward to this movie.

  • Awww! No Smaug? I guess that there is no reason to show him since they have split the story into two parts! *shakes fist in weary anguish* I wanna see Smaug!!!

  • now simon will be happy :)

  • Smegal is back =D

  • YAAAAY I CANT WAIT =D Xxx

  • I have not read the books but a friend of mine told me that Gandalf is way more powerful than he appears in the movies, a ''legendary'' being. Is that true? If so, why is he holding back?

  • @TheThejigsup Oh, there's a LOT in the books not on the movies. Bet you didn't know the Hobbits run into Saruman back in the Shire (Return of the King), for example. They cut it out because it's not that important to the storyline, and the movies are, let's face it, longer than most people are willing to sit through. I do wish they'd put Tom Bambadil in (Fellowship), though. He's... interesting.

  • @Katybug1337 actually another part of the reason they cut it out is they killed saruman off earlier on in return of the king, however i for one would have loved to have seen the scouring of the shire

  • @Katybug1337 Oh if they had tom bombadil in the movies it would have been awesome he is one of my favorites

  • @silentassasin24 Yea I agree the exclusion of Tom B. is a miscarriage. What I'm getting at is he was the only one the ring seemed to have no power over in fact he made it disappear then seemed to laughed at it when he handed it back to Frodo. I would've never thought to add someone such as him in LOTR, The genius of Tolkien!

  • @Katybug1337 i didnt have any trouble sitting thru the movies and i got the special extended versions :P

  • @Katybug1337 Yea the books are far better, and go into much better depth (like when Sam takes the ring and goes to rescue Frodo). But tbh for me the ending was a bit dragged out with the orcs in the shire, still best books ive ever read :)

  • @Katybug1337 stop acting like your the only person who likes Tolkien, the main reason why they cut the scouring of the shire is because it was anti-climatic, we just had the ring destroyed, sauron defeated, the end of all things. You don't want to then go back to the shire and have another battle.

  • @MrAdamhill1992 I tend to agree with you about the shire being destroyed. I felt the same way when I read the books. I think the message that Tolkien was trying to convey in the books was that even though the ring was destroyed, the whole experience had left its mark, literal and figurative, on the Shire for the members of the fellowship. It tainted this pure thing for them always. They could't escape it even after destroying the ring. I think that the scouring of the shire was symbolic of that.

  • @MrAdamhill1992 I definitely don't think it would have translated at all into the screen play though.

  • @Katybug1337 Im willing to sit through the movies. Im willing to sit through the fucking books if I have to.

  • @Katybug1337 I really liked that character also (Tom). I was slightly disappointed when they cut him, but I can understand why. I really wished they would have put a little more focus on the friendship that was built between Legolas and Gimli. They really despised each other in the beginning of the books, but they formed this amazing bond through-out the quest.

  • @Katybug1337 and the barrow-wights.... it would be cool

  • @Katybug1337 Bombadil was interesting haha but I really don't see how he'd have fit in with the darker, more mature feel of the trilogy...think he would have been received as a bit of a joke to be honest...especially when Frodo had to sing to call him in the Barrow Downs

  • @Katybug1337 interresting is the right word

  • @Katybug1337 I hear your argument but I do think the Hobbits meeting of Sauraman back in the Shire and Tom Bomadil were both important and interesting, Tolkien thought they were and although PJ did a good job on LOTR.. He should've of made four movies so he could of included much more to me that helped make the story and world of Middle Earth so engaging.

  • @nat00ben06: I don't know as Jackson ever really had the option of making four movies ... it was a bit of a miracle that he was able to get the funding together for a three-movie package.

  • @TheThejigsup: Tolkien's spirit world includes a bunch of "angelic" beings called the Maiar. Sauron was a Maia, for example. About 2000 years prior to LOTR, the Valar (even more powerful beings) sent a handful of Maiar to Middle-Earth to help mortals deal with the evils produced by Sauron. They came in the form of old men, and were tasked to help mostly through advice ... not force. These were the Istari (or wizards), and included Gandalf and Saruman.

  • I ship Bilbo and Cumbersmaug. :)

  • Is that Arthur Dent?

  • Hell, how I missed this...

  • Gollum is the real star of this film.

  • I'm sorry, I just love the fact Benedict Cumberbatch is Smaug

  • Epik-metr crashed

  • Ihave to read this for my Honors English summer reading requirements :/ the preview looks good tho

  • it's like a backstory of lord of the rings

  • I can't beleive that anny one could try to rein a horse a badly as bilbo did......

  • Am I the only one that's gonna be fucking pissed if I die before this comes out?.. It's so far away... I could get hit by a bus next week :(

  • 1:08 that the mother fucker from the red hot chili peppers lol

  • WHY CANT I STOP WATCHING THIS?!?!!?

  • @Dlboostacoustic Well, from a fan science, you really really REALLY WANT TO WATCH T NOW AND ALSO DWARVES ARE JUST BAD ASS! They are way better then Elves. thumbs up if yes.

  • @Dlboostacoustic Same. This is going to be the best film EVER!!!! I cannot wait until december

  • Aaargghh!!! goosebumps! X

  • where is smaug?!!?

  • @Dlboostacoustic: He'll be in the second film coming out in Dec. 2013. I'm not sure they've even completely figured out who they are going to CGI him yet.

  • @drdaveoldguy: That should be "how they are going to CGI him"

  • @Dlboostacoustic Smaug appears in part 2 which is The Hobbit: There And Back Again

  • @mattdaley01 Why does it have to be on Part 2. and how do you know?

  • so many freaking years of fantasy and in the end we still love Tolkien.... thank you !!!! you made me a better man! epic movie!

  • what is the name of the theme at the end of the video ?

  • i haven't read the book, but geeee i freaked out when i saw Golem xD

  • WATSON.

  • Ahhhh it's been so long since LOTR, I've missed this atmosphere :)

  • @ZuzuFire108 *hobbit

  • Finally a lucious dwarf 0:39....:P x

  • I am here as I was hoping to see those speaking spiders....but else than that I do not care shit about this movie. Seems I am one of few. Lord of the rings is like religion to many.

  • @Retsler54 If you want to know what the talking spiders are going to look like they should look the same as Shelob in The Return of the King. According to the appendices found at the end of the book they were all from the same brood.

  • isn't young bilbo the guy from sherlock?

  • @gubeym: Yes, he plays Watson. He also played Arthur Dent in "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" which is funny since that character was a decent, normal, boring guy who lived a quiet, uneventful, boring life close to home ... until a strange guy came along and sucked him into an adventure beyond his wildest dreams. (And BTW, the actor doing Smaug and the Necromancer plays Holmes in "Sherlock." So when Bilbo and Smaug are talking ... )

  • So excited! :D

  • wtf I wanted to see Smaug!

  • No I hate Harry Potter and luke sky walker

  • Wait, is The Hobbit gonna be one movie or two?

  • @Killryde its going to be 2

  • All Star Wars, LOTR, and Harry Potter fans are one! Am I right?

Even if I am wrong! Atleast I know that everyone on here hates twilight right?

  • 1:24, fragments of Mehrune's razor

  • Hope they show the riddle-battle between bilbo and smeagol/gollum

  • AAAAAAAAH!!! (that was me squealing like a little girl when she saw the first Twilight trailer) I'M READY FOR ADVENTURE! I'M READY FOR ADVENTURE! I'M READY FOR ADVENTURE! I'M READY FOR ADVENTURE! I'M READY FOR ADVENTURE! I'M READY FOR ADVENTURE! I'M READY FOR ADVENTURE! I'M READY FOR ADVENTURE! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

  • This is gonna be AWESOME! And Orlando Bloom is hot <3

  • 0.0 This is going to be legendary!

  • omg Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch omg

  • I honestly don't think that this movie will be any good :(

  • I thought I read somewhere that Orlando Bloom was retaking his role as Legolas in this movie. Is this true? Because I don't see him in this trailer...

  • @Emme019 Yes, but he just has a bit part, just a couple of lines. Hugo Weaving is back as Elrond, too, but they don't show him in the trailer, either.

  • @superbu1: Where did you hear that Legolas only has a couple of lines?? Orlando Bloom already shot some scenes this past fall, and said in an interview he'll be back in New Zealand off and on throughout 2012 shooting more.

  • @Emme019: Yeah - he'd just shot the first of his scenes shortly before they made this trailer, so they probably hadn't had a chance to do any production on them. In a recent interview he said he'd be shooting more scenes off and on throughout 2012. Best guess is that he'll show up near the end of the first film, but be more involved in the second. (The kingdom of elves he's part of are in the second half of the book.)

  • 0:37 FINALLY! A hot dwarf ^.^

  • This great song - The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey - Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold:

Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold

Far over the misty mountains cold

To dungeons deep and caverns old,

The pines were roaring on the height,

The winds were moaning in the night.

    The fire was red, it flaming spread;

The trees like torches blazed with light

  • @Golemblanax This is only near the end of the song, the whole song is quite lengthy.

  • @Golemblanax well, if I remember correctly there are about 15 or 18 lines more in that song. Thumbs up if I am correct.

  • @bold524: Even more ... the version in "The Hobbit" has 10 verses of four lines each, so 40 lines in all. The excerpt in the movie is the first half of verse 1 and all of verse 7.

  • Nothing could be compared with the Soundtracks of this Trilogy #LOTR

  • a snippet of it is from the LOTR 1, but it is all from the book The Hobbits

  • question: why is Fran Walsh presented as a Writer?

should have been : Writer : J.R.R. Tolkien; (Adapted) Screenplay: Fran Walsh

some people get sensitive about these things ^_^

  • anyone else think that they should do some of the pre ring stories from tolkien? like The Silmarillion and The Children of Hurin. ya know stories of the north and background on the northern wars/ rangers from the north :D

  • @pwrdbyspamusubi They don't own the rights. Only the rights to "The Hobbit" and "Lord of the Rings" are owned by the movie company. I understand they wanted to use a little bit of material from some of those books in the two Hobbit films, perhaps in flashback scenes, but they don't have the rights.

  • I loved the books and the video game!! I can't wait to see Martin Freeman in The Hobbit :D

  • DO WANT!!!!!

  • They had prequels for star wars and now there having them for Lord of the rings. Only question.

WHEN THE FUCK ARE THEY GONNA HAVE PREQUELS FOR HARRY POTTER??????????

  • @MrDjoyahs NEVER! if ur a true HP fan, u shud know that everyone already knows the stuff that happened before the movies. Plus, its a book. you'd have to WRITE a prequel first. thats the only reason LOTR got away with it. Star wars was a movie first, so they can do whatever the hell they want!

  • @MrDjoyahs Within a few years there should be one. JK Rowling wrote a short story called the Harry Potter Prequel. If that isn't made into a film, then it'll probably be Rowling's doing. She's not writing an offical prequel though.

  • Gandolf = Dumbledore

  • Comment removed

  • the books, lord of the rings and hobbit are really gd and the films are following right behind,

but if they screw up the hobbit someone will have to pay, with there lives

  • Comment removed

  • i feel sorry for those who haven't yet read the book and can't fully comprehend the hype about this movie.

  • @johnpaulsialafau Im conflicted about wether or not to read the book before watching the film.

  • @doodiethief hmm...haha i reckon read the book. The book is a bit slow, but a pleasant read nonetheless.

  • mother of trailers...is there some legal way to marry a movie trailer?

  • if they ruin this i sware to God i will kill someone

  • @cy750 Not to throw water on your self-righteous fire, but movies cannot ruin books. The book remains autonomous and secure. The movie might be a poor adaptation, and it might not reach the full potential of its source material, but that does not mean it can "ruin" the book. To say that books are at the mercy of whoever decides to adapt them is not very respectful of the craft.

  • i have been waiting my whole life for this, ever since my mum read the hobbit to me when i was four
