It really depends who you talk to - for speakers I think probably the newer stuff - for amp/preamp it seems the older stuff. Not sure where the real science would point us, but your ears can tell better than anything else :P
They have perfected sound beyond our hearing more than 20 years ago. The new stuff should kick ass if they designed the systems properly and some of these have good componets but poor designs. What were told gives us good sound and what actually does are two different things. I've heard a high end system that would make anything in that show sound apauling. It wasn't built to sell but to do exactly as it was intended to. Knowledge on how to get good sound is more important than cost.
@sacon05 old stuff was better and still is in my eyes. I spent £1000's over the years buying new audio and upgrading such forth to al be beaten by old NAD amps from the 80's worth £20 a piece and a pair of speakers that looked like they had been used to hold kitchen cupboards together but the sound is fantastic and the 1983 cd player that i bought by accident for £30 is silly good. Im glad i sold all my nice stuff now
There really are people who love Audio... not Video... AUDIO!! Here in Eastern Canada people think Hi-Fi is an iPod. What they miss. What that I could have been there!
As is always the case, there are some absolutely great sounding products out there that'll blow your mind away, but aren't they ever so ugly? What's wrong with putting some nice, brushed casing around some of those cream coloured 70's style amps?
Have you ever seen the Rockport Sirius turntable ?? It is $70,000.oo worth of beauty with its granite base and machined support structure !! WOW, beauty and sound !!
KR Audio = Very Very BAD bad service:((((

The trumpet at 6:10 is from Masekela: Hope LP, the song title is Stimela. The 4:12 is from an Opus3 CD calledLive at the Pawnshop,

I dont get it. Is older equipment always better than newer, more advanced stuff? With today's technology they should kick the past's ass.

I bet they make dance music CD's sound great.

The musical choices are pretty bland at best. Typical audiophile fare.
