This was back in the day when the vision came first, then they built the mechanics around it. Notice how visually distinct every FF from 6-10 was from it's predecessor? That was because everytime they made a new game they had a new, inspired story to tell. The various combat systems were fun, but they came second to the characters and plot in these games (though admittedly 8 kind of hit a brick wall at the end)

FF-8 was made in the 90s, hd didnt exist back then and by the looks of the tech during the 90s well this sh*t was the sh*t of SquareSoft, so as Xenogears and ChronoCross they have shitty graphics compared to the games of today... but heck they gave us one hell of a gaming experience :D

I need saves before the last fight on the 2 disc...I had 4 characters with 100 levels..gf's with I can remember well but around 100 levels too. I played a lot of when I was younger but my 2 disc has crashed and I have never had a chance to end this game. PLS HELP What shoudl i do? I don;t want to play whole game again..100 hours are too many to repeat. ;-(

Finished this the other day after 9 years of restarting over and over. I couldn't help but feel underwhelmed by the climax but the characters in general, I think, were some of the strongest in the series. Squall's social anxieties and depressive qualities were actually often strikingly life like and Rinoa (love her or hate her) provided an amicable female lead. I know it's not an unpopular game but I certainly think it deserves to regarded on the same level 7, perhaps higher.
@bassben04 definatly i played this game back when it first came out think i was about 13-14 and this along with final fantasy 7 were the best games ever made but i nevewr completed any of these despite getting reight to the very ends on both of them. the new ones jus aint the same, watching this brings back all the memories lol squall was one of the very best characters in the franchise , shame they not like this anymore :(

@Daibron No. This is an Adventure game. A Role playing game requires three things: 1. A story that you can actually manipulate through the actions of your character eg. Elder scrolls; 2. The character's themselves must be of your own making eg. Dragon age; And 3. The game has to be rich with immersion.
As such, the -entire- final fantasy series cannot be called a role playing game because you are not directly playing the role of the character. In any case, I'm done with this discussion so...^-^

That is often a staple of the genre, but by no means a defining trait. Nor is Character Creation or Immersion. Those are sometimes beneficial or desired, but by no means part of the definition. ive heard many people say this game was horrible, and that it was the worst in the final fantasy series. but ive also noticed that the people who loved it beyond anything else hated final fantasy nine for some reason.
it was later explained to me that many people didnt like the way that MP was removed in this game. in order to cast spells you had to first obtain them by drawing them off your enemy, which many people objected to.

If you believe the scenery wasnt good, then either you are colorblind, dont know what good scenery is, or are playing on a bootlegged copy of the game. in any case, the scenery in this game was amazing, the graphics were spectacular, and the cinimatics felt like theater movies.
@KaiXi333 if the game was hardly playable, its probably because your system wasnt running the game properly. This game's controls had no faults that I've seen, and the systems were basically the same as final fantasy 7. If your referring to the Junction thing, then you should play FF7 and see if you can understand the system there, where it originated.
on the RPG thing, first off its not an RPG, if your using that acronym correctly. RPG = Roleplaying game, and this is an adventure game.

@KeramatZMode You have to go through one of the portals which are next to the chain bridge that goes into ultimecia's castle, and then you have to do some chocobo forest in order to get a chocobo, then you run around the edge of the shoreline til you find it. Sorry I can't be of much more help, but there's plenty of vids about it
If I had to choose one reason why I think this game should be remade, I think it would be because I want to see if this opening can get any more EPIC than it already is with PS1 graphics.
By the way, are there other people who think that lately the clothing of FF characters is becoming... awkward? In FF 8 atleast he had a bit of a badass jacket but now with 12 (being the last one that i played..)

7 the reason it is 50ap abilities is AP doesn't overflow to another ability, you want to do it mainly with attribute junctions.
8 after the dance you'll go to the training centre and fight a boss, here you will aquire 16 wizards stones, this will give you 80 blizagas (the reason i chose ice is because in timber in the magazine shop is a blizaga draw point) junction that to strength....there you go

A lot of people consider FFVIII as a minor opus in the FF collection but I don't agree… I think it was great in a lot of ways : perfect music themes, incredibly lively characters, mature and fantastic story with some deep emotional moments, and a great romantic ending… To me FFVIII was at least as good as FFVII…

People have been asking why it's being called the PSX. want to read a ridiculously elaborate reason?
In roman numerals, X means ten. ten has a 1 and an 0. the word, PSone. Has an O in it, this has often been mistaken for 0, not on the console just in general. so, one is better than 0 so add one from the 10 to make PS1. So PSX is really just PS10. So in reality the psone was more advanced than PS2 and PS3 from the beginning. Haha.
Its just a name that stuck for me growing up. Before PS2 or PS3 released, nobody called it PS1 or PSOne. I remember magazines would often put PSX if they abbreviated it, and there was even an official PSX Magazine back in the 90's.
I've heard multiple stories about the origin of the name PSX. Some claim it came from the console psx, others say it was used when the original playstation launched, others claim it was used before that when sony was developing a cd console for nintendo.
Im not 100% either but as far as i was aware it was just a name that took off because of the magazine PSX
because like you say it was released as playstation and as far as i know nobody started calling it PSX untill they released the smaller playstation (PS1) so i think its a mix of the magazine and them marketing the smaller one as the PSone

@EricRenders1993 What you described would be a Western RPG, Final Fantasy is a Japanese RPG. Both types, while being RPGs are completely different beasts. And for your info, JRPGs are the traditional form of RPGs, if anything western RPGs are more like an action or an adventure game.

In the definition of RPG there is no criteria that includes being able to change the story according to your character's actions. That is often a staple of the genre, but by no means a defining trait. Nor is Character Creation or Immersion. Those are sometimes beneficial or desired, but by no means part of the definition. All that is required for a game to be an RPG is that it be story-centered and that the player assumes the role of a character in the story itself.

FF7 always was the best it set a new standard for RPG's and sethiroth was such a good character as you couldnt always tell if he was truly good or evil until later in the game.

It also didn't really set new standards, since it didn't really add anything new to the series except Materia, and even that system was never used again.

ive heard many people say this game was horrible, and that it was the worst in the final fantasy series. but ive also noticed that the people who loved it beyond anything else hated final fantasy nine for some reason.
it was later explained to me that many people didnt like the way that MP was removed in this game. in order to cast spells you had to first obtain them by drawing them off your enemy, which many people objected to.

however i discovered that alot of people have trouble with the junctioning magic function in this one. that confuses me alot because in reality, the system is the same as equiping materia in FF7. there are differences, such as the spells not requiring MP and being equpped to stat. But the base idea is the same. you equip or junction the magic to a stat.

Now ive seen some people saying the scenery wasnt that good, and i have to respond to that, but ill do it here instead of giving the guy a message he probably wont see, or remember having stated.
If you believe the scenery wasnt good, then either you are colorblind, dont know what good scenery is, or are playing on a bootlegged copy of the game. in any case, the scenery in this game was amazing, the graphics were spectacular, and the cinimatics felt like theater movies.

@KaiXi333 if the game was hardly playable, its probably because your system wasnt running the game properly. This game's controls had no faults that I've seen, and the systems were basically the same as final fantasy 7. If your referring to the Junction thing, then you should play FF7 and see if you can understand the system there, where it originated.
on the RPG thing, first off its not an RPG, if your using that acronym correctly. RPG = Roleplaying game, and this is an adventure game.

@KeramatZMode You have to go through one of the portals which are next to the chain bridge that goes into ultimecia's castle, and then you have to do some chocobo forest in order to get a chocobo, then you run around the edge of the shoreline til you find it. Sorry I can't be of much more help, but there's plenty of vids about it

I can't even begin to recollect how many times I played and beat FF8 all the back in 1999 but if I remember correctly I put like 300 something hours into the last save file I made for this game. Geez...I wasted a lot of time on FF8.

THIS IS HOW YOU GET AN INVINCIBLE SQUAD WITH LESS THAN AN HOURS GRIND
1. ASAP acquire 100 of every spell in Balamb)
2. get your gf's to learn boost
3. in dollet when you come to the boss on the tower try to draw as much double as possible (you might die but you might not)
4 select a gf to learn an ability that takes 50AP or more (and for shiva tell her to learn ICE mag REF)
5 fight the spider as often as possible you need to knock him down twice before running (you earn 50AP)

7 the reason it is 50ap abilities is AP doesn't overflow to another ability, you want to do it mainly with attribute junctions.
8 after the dance you'll go to the training centre and fight a boss, here you will aquire 16 wizards stones, this will give you 80 blizagas (the reason i chose ice is because in timber in the magazine shop is a blizaga draw point) junction that to strength....there you go
also in disc 2 ASAP visit the shumi village as often as possible, for its ultima

A lot of people consider FFVIII as a minor opus in the FF collection but I don't agree… I think it was great in a lot of ways : perfect music themes, incredibly lively characters, mature and fantastic story with some deep emotional moments, and a great romantic ending… To me FFVIII was at least as good as FFVII…

People have been asking why it's being called the PSX. want to read a ridiculously elaborate reason?
In roman numerals, X means ten. ten has a 1 and an 0. the word, PSone. Has an O in it, this has often been mistaken for 0, not on the console just in general. so, one is better than 0 so add one from the 10 to make PS1. So PSX is really just PS10. So in reality the psone was more advanced than PS2 and PS3 from the beginning. Haha.

Its just a name that stuck for me growing up. Before PS2 or PS3 released, nobody called it PS1 or PSOne. I remember magazines would often put PSX if they abbreviated it, and there was even an official PSX Magazine back in the 90's.
I've heard multiple stories about the origin of the name PSX. Some claim it came from the console psx, others say it was used when the original playstation launched, others claim it was used before that when sony was developing a cd console for nintendo.

The true history behind the PSX name is that it was the name of the project of Sony and Nintendo of the cd console. Then Nintendo pull back on the project, but Sony goes on with PS. But the name PSX remained. So there are three abreviations for one console: PSX, PS and PSOne.

I don't get why people say the portable playstation was called the PSX either, it wasn't. It was the PSOne, I'm looking at it now... it has PSOne written on it, not PSX.
