  • Goosebumps...That is all.

  • I am trying to teach myself how to cry again, and this was all I needed. Beautiful.

  • I could listen to this a million times, and it would still bring tears to my eyes.

  • @ih8tu100

Being gay is natural. No, molestation is not a leading 'cause' of homosexuality, and if it were that would still not prove your case.

In no way could you justify any sort of I'll treatment, abridgment of equal treatment, or atrocities; so leave be what is.

  • her words are so powerful.

  • It hurt. But it was beautiful. Her words, come from a place where language is sewn directly into emotion...

  • @ih8tu100 Remarking that comment about homosexuals wanting to be taken seriously, not having sex with other people and staying loyal so to not 'tarnish' the meaning of marriage is complete bullshit. You can say the same thing to every heterosexual marriage that has ended because of a partner having 'sex with other people.' It doesn't matter matter if you're man. woman, black, white, hispanic, gay, or straight, the only thing tarnishing marriage is the human race. Marriage is a joke because of us

  • Beautiful, haunting words from a beautiful and talented woman. I am in awe. I would love to see her in person.

  • After hearing her poetry and getting used to her style I began to watch this video and I must admit, I grew a little uneasy. To see how emotional she was getting before she read her poem it shook me. It shook me in the most wonderful way possible. Her words have a way with people by penetrating deep into their souls and embracing them.

  • Thank you so much for sharing this.

  • powerful.

  • Funny, I just logged onto facebook to see what was happening amongst my friends, and it made me physically sick, comparing the unimportant stanzas of people who think their fake lives are interesting, to the poems of Gibson, who only wants to show an interest in others.

How unimaginably and humbly human Andrea Gibson is.

  • Andrea Gibson is my hero <3

  • wow this is so powerful

  • why cant this be on the radio instead of tik tok???

  • @l00nyt00ns101 because it would be remixed, rehashed, and remastered until it was a pop culture hit. I like that this will never get air play, I may grow to hate something I cherish, out of sheer frustration of having to hear it all day, every day.

  • This poem was breath taking. I felt so moved by it. She is positively amazing.

  • @ih8tu100 bahaha. you lose this convo dude. you see soon enough people like you will have to accept other people and who they are. so heres my advice to you: live your own life and stop trying to change and interpret those you don't agree with. you breathe your own breaths so don't waste your own on trying to redirect others.

  • beautiful..brought tears to my eyes

  • AMAZING!!!

  • ih8tu100, why do you even watch these?

You don't like poetry, you aren't for gay right or progression or passion or compassion towards humanity soo.. Why do you pull up these videos?

Just so you can spread your simple-minded opinion & try to spread your small, numbed opinion around in hopes that it might cause someone to doubt themselves? I can't see the point.

Maybe, juusst maybe, if you don't like this so much, why do you look elsewhere and try to pass your time doing something positive.

  • @SilverMasquerades I'm exercising my right of free speech as an American.

  • I wish there were more stars to rate this with. This was amazing.

  • While I do not know whether or not she was referring to a specific incident. what comes to mind Is the Westburro Babtist Church's protesting at Matthew Shepard's funeral. Matthew shepard was a gay man that was beaten to death because he was gay. While I respect the fact that you have the right to believe what you will, I hope you do realize that there are not very many Gays in this world that have not tried to be straight at one point, myself included. almost killed me, and has killed others.

  • @ih8tu100 You can call it your 'ideology' - but it's still inaccurate. I think I would know if my sexuality was a decision. Sexuality is based on attraction. Attraction is a feeling. If something makes you angry you just get angry. There is no stopping it. You can decide to not act on that anger but you cant stop the initial feeling. Attraction is no different.

  • actually, attraction is a chemical reaction in the brain, something that a person cannot control. it also has much to do with pheromones, which is another aspect of the human body that a person cannot control. attraction is not a choice, it as a natural occurrence within the human body.

  • ih8u100: actually, that isn't an opinion. that's an ignorant misconception.

let's think of it this way: do you CHOOSE to find the same sex unattractive? do you CHOOSE to find the opposite sex attractive? are you actually a pansexual that has decided that you're only going to admit to finding the opposite sex attractive?

if you said yes to any of those questions, you as much of a liar as you are an idiot. the chemical mechanics of homosexuality are no different than those of heterosexuality.

  • @Adimurti no, actually it's an opinion. It seems to me that you are rather ignorant towards other people's beliefs

  • @ih8tu100 ... that wasn't my question?

  • @Adimurti no, but your question really isn't a reasonable one.

  • @ih8u100 it was about as reasonable as you telling gay people that their sexuality is a choice. anyone with an iq that exceeds their shoe-size knows that attraction is a chemical reaction - whether you're heterosexual; homosexual, bisexual, pansexual, asexual or polysexual - it makes no difference. it would only be a choice if there were hormone medication involved - and even if that WAS the case, people have as much right to do that as you do to your 'opinion'.

  • [cont.] so, here's a novel idea. why don't you stop posting comments on videos if you're so against it? let me guess: because then you wouldn't be baiting arguments with people who clearly have more of an understanding with regards to the matter than you do?

your opinions are libellous, and your reasoning is (as of yet) non-existent. grow up and stop amusing yourself by belittling the lifestyles of others.

  • @Adimurti is that so? thank you for showing me my error of my ways. I now see the light and everything is so clear to me.

  • @ih8tu100 sarcasm is for winners, sweetie.

  • @ih8tu100 i refer you to my previous post with the three questions you've yet to answer. by that logic, you have chosen to be straight. and by that logic, you too are attracted to the same sex and just choose to have relationships with the opposite sex. now, we've established that you're not all that bright, but please think carefully before answering.

  • [cont.] if you still insist that sexuality is a choice, you're a hypocrite as you're a bisexual criticising other bisexuals for being bisexual (at least, by your ideals you are). if you don't, you've basically admitted you're a 'tard with nothing better to do than bait arguments.

  • @Adimurti wow. you must be really smart to use the word "tard". I like how you're judging me like you're some kind of person who people should bow down to

  • @Adimurti interesting how you think you're above me when you really don't even know who I really am.

  • @ih8tu100 i dont think it is a chose but more of a state of minde something that you do not need to chews but something that you just are.

  • @sarahkins1000 and thats fair. its your opinion and I respect it. regardless of that, I dont believe in gay marriage unlike 99% of the ppl that commented on this video haha

  • @ih8tu100 I've never seen a baby boy having sex with a baby girl for that matter.

  • @rymanderson I don't think babies know what sex is or how to have it

  • @ih8tu100 read your prior comment. You said it happens after birth as a choice, and your evidence was having not seen a gay baby. I was merely pointing out what you aparently already knew. I hope you take some of this poetry to heart and realize that love is love no matter which direction it os flowing, and it is never something to hate.

  • @rymanderson that's great and it's your opinion and many others opinion. my opinion is I don't think gay marriage should be legalized. especially when the government doesn't listen to the people's voice from voting like when california is trying to legalize gay marriage despite poll results. and another thing is I have seen many gay people flaunt their sexuality more so than many straight couples. I think a large amount is not 100% genuine.

  • @ih8tu100 Regardless of whether it's a choice or not, why shouldn't gay marriage be legal? Should we be allowed to vote on which heterosexual couples can get married? What right to the people have to deny an entire group of people the ability to get married? Do you also believe there should be no interracial marriage? If popular vote had gone on for that one, interracial marriages still wouldn't be allowed.

  • @TheMauveDart it's my personal belief that gay marriage shouldn't be legal. I think it's immoral. it's the same as saying I think murder should be illegal. not everybody would agree with that. it's all personal beliefs. and if it went by vote, I'm pretty sure interracial marriages would be allowed now......however, the vote still says no gay marriage

  • @ih8tu100 And why, pray tell, should we all be forced to adhere to your idea of morality?

  • @tasialue I think you meant to say "please." anyway, it is natural human behavior to try and make others accept your idividual idealogy. my idea of morality is actually the majority of the United States. now, I can ask the same question to you. should we accept your idea or morality? it's a double standard in terms of neither one of us are correct by facts. we have different ideas and we both want people to accept our own. I'm sorry that we disagree but everybody has a right to their own opinion

  • @tasialue I meant to say "individual" and "idea of morality" in my comment from a few seconds ago. sorry for the typos

  • @ih8tu100 It's not the same though. The idea of Freedom is based on the idea that a person should be able to do whatever they want as long is does not impede another person's ability to do the same. Murder would impede that ability. Gay marriage would not.

  • @TheMauveDart well, things like disorderly conduct and breaking and entering are against the law yet it does not impede another person's ability to do the same.....or attempted murder for that matter

  • @ih8tu100 But it does impede their ability to purse happiness and have things they want, which is another staple of freedom. And attempted murder is an attempt to do so, it's just a failed attempt.

  • @TheMauveDart well you defined it as "a person should be able to do whatever they want as long is does not impede another person's ability to do the same." breaking into somebodies house does not prevent them from doing the same to you.....and they still can pursue happiness. if they lost a few material items that does not necessarilly ruin their life. being happy isn't always based on physical things...more so things like health, friends, and family

  • @ih8tu100 One question: Why? Why do you think gay marriage should be illegal? What about to people being together and being happy is so repugnant to you that it must be against the law. Its one thing to be personally against gay people but to use your vote to prevent their happiness, why?

  • @Teresa64squared Why? Because it is my ideology that marriage should be between 1 man and 1 woman. it's as simple as that. I don't mind there being financial benefits and all that for gay couples (like there is for straight couples) but I do not think they should legally get married. It doesn't follow the definition of marriage. the majority of America agrees with me

  • @ih8tu100 To answer the question why with "Because it is my ideology" is not an answer. Why is that your ideology? Why do you choose to believe that some people were created more equal than others? I don't care if the majority of America agrees with you. Once upon a time the majority of America believed that people had to marry within their own race, once upon a time the majority of America believed that blacks should be slaves? Why? Because that was their ideology, that's why.

  • @keydet035 it's my idealogy that marriage needs to remain between 1 man and 1 women. I'm a religious person and based on my religion, I've formed personal views and opinions on things. just like you formed your own opinions. I don't think a homosexual couple should have the right to marry because it goes against what I believe. I don't think homosexuality is a natrual thing. I still respect homosexuals and I don't mind being friends with them but they shouldn't be allowed to marry. period.

  • @ih8tu100 You are using circular logic, which isn't really logic at all. Your argument is essentially that gay people shouldn't be allowed to get married because you believe that gay people shouldn't be allowed to get married because you believe that gay people shouldn't be allowed to get married. My question is WHY? Why do you choose to believe in discrimination? Saying that you are religious is a cop out. There are plenty of religious people who realize that Jesus would never embrace hate

  • @keydet035 no thats not true. not everthing has to be put out into a complicated thesis.I can say the same about you. you believe that gay people should be allowed to get married because you believe that gay people should be allowed to get married because you believe that gay people should be allowed to marry..you arent exactly in a position to judge me.I'm religious.my religion believes gay marriage shouldnt exist because it is immoral..and being against gay marriage has nothing to do with hate

  • @ih8tu100 I'm not asking for a complicated thesis. I believe that gay people have a right to marriage based on the non-aggression principle, the rational idea that something cannot be "immoral" unless it constitutes an initiation of force or coercion against another, based on the Constitutional principle of equality before the law, based on the emotional appeal of real people being denied the same rights as everyone else, and my personal desire to get married one day.

  • @ih8tu100 You, on the other hand, have given no reason for why you believe I should be denied the right to get married other than "I choose to interpret the religion that I was born into as condemning this, and so will go along with that without any further thought." What makes gay marriage immoral? The passages perceived as condemnations are quickly done away with if you actually examine the context (I'm assuming you're Christian, forgive me if I am wrong).

  • @ih8tu100 And how could systematic legal discrimination against a certain group of people based on characteristics beyond their control that do not harm anyone possibly have to do with anything other than hate?

  • @keydet035 just because it's not physically harming people doesn't mean it's not insulting or "hurting" people. gay marriage is immoral and unnatural. have your legal contracts and economic benefits.....but don't tarnish marriage

  • @ih8tu100 You do not have a right to not be insulted. Part of living in a free country is being offended sometimes. It's why I have to hear idiot kids throw around the word "faggot" or say "that's so gay" all the time. It's part of the price of freedom. If it isn't initiating force or coercion against someone, then it isn't "harming" them, except for possibly in the way that a better business model could "harm" an inferior one on the free market. That is and should be legal.

  • @ih8tu100 Your opinion that gay marriage is "immoral and unnatural" is not grounds to deny other Americans equal rights. In my opinion, gay marriage is perfectly natural (over 1500 other species of animals engage in homosexuality, just so you know), and is certainly more moral than the alternative, which discourages committed monogamous relationships and encourages promiscuity.

  • @keydet035 you have no more right to say it is NOT grounds then I have right to say it IS grounds. Its all personal choice...for the same reason of it being immoral, I am against theft, murder etc...just becuase other species engage in homosexuality doesn't make it natural. many species eat their offspring but that doesn't mean it is natural for humans to do it...you cant say that not being married encourages promiscuity. two of my friends have been together for 30 years and they're not married

  • @ih8tu100 Actually, I do have more evidence to say that it is not grounds for discrimination. It's called the Constitution. The 14th Amendment forbids discrimination, and the 1st forbids the establishment of a religion. So unless you've got some evidence that shows that same sex marriage harms someone else, you're just plain wrong. Theft and murder are wrong because they are an initiation of force, not because the Bible says so. We've gone over this.

  • @ih8tu100 If a phenomenon occurring in nature does not make it natural, what does? Endorsement by the Bible? Religion doesn't appear naturally. If anything, religion is unnatural. Anecdotal evidence aside, if you look at history, when a certain group is systematically denied legal protections for their long-term relationships, it discourages long term relationships and promotes promiscuity. This was true for American blacks during slavery, and it is true for American gays today.

  • @keydet035 I guess you agree that consuming your offspring is natural for humans...sorry, I just cant participate in that. the point of religion is either you believe or you dont. I believe God created nature around us, meaning it is as natural as it can get. if you dont believe that, fine. thats what you think but I disagree with you. if homosexuals want to be taken seriously and want to show that they are in love, then they wont have sex with other people. if they arent loyal, dont get married

  • @ih8tu100 Are you legitimately stupid, or are you just trolling? Homosexuality in no way shape or form compares to eating one's offspring, as it does not harm anyone, and eating babies generally results in death of the baby. Common sense, no?

  • @ih8tu100 Oh, and if you can just keep the volume of your bigotry to a dull roar, that'd be fantastic. Sluttiness is not a skill, not an attribute, and plenty of straight people are masters of the trade.

  • @pablohoney81 when did I say anything about sluttiness? the other person said not allowing gay marriage "promotes promiscuity." then I said, if they truly love their "partner," then they won't cheat on their "partner"......regardless if they are married are not

  • @ih8tu100 Your computer isn't natural. Birth control, eyeglasses, polyester. All unnatural. Homosexuality, however? It is. Proven natural. FOUND IN NATURE. Does not hurt anyone.

You allow your religion to blind your democracy.

  • @ih8tu100 No, it's a fallacy. You can't hold the opinion that oxygen is toxic to humans because it is wrong. You are confusing fact and opinion. It is a FACT, not an opinion, that sexual attraction is not a choice. You can't hold an opinion to the contrary and still be rational.

  • @ih8tu100 Yes, but that's like saying it's my opinion that 2+2=5. It's not. Factually.

  • @pablohoney81 well, I'm sure you would agree that some circumstances prove it is not natural.....such as molestation at a young age often leads to homosexuality

  • This poem made me think about my life and all the struggles i have with my family and the fact that this almost happened to my bestie. I love you Andrea Gibson!

    <3 Braxton

  • Andrea, if you see this, you should know that you helped me come out to my mom last year. Six months she wouldn't talk to me. I sent her "I Do" in an email one day. We've been working on our relationship every day since then. Thank you so much. Your words give so many people hope. Thank you for giving me the words I couldn't find inside my own heart just yet. Just, thank you.

  • Oh man, this made me cry by the end. Especially "say this to the kids who are hiding their heartbeats from their father's fists" because one of my friends was beaten by his father for being gay. And even though I know my family wouldn't hate me or beat me if I told them I'm a lesbian, I'm still terrified to.

  • I am lesbian too..

I no what you mean girl.

If you need someone to talk to hit me up...

I am here to talk and help.

    <3 Braxton

  • DAMN!

  • Amazing.

  • brought me to tears. one of my favorites of hers. she uses her talent to reach into people and just move them in ways you cant explain.

  • thank you Andrea

  • i love this poem! very heartbreaking
