    Good job !

  • i love this tutorial.

  • Andrew thank you so much for this video. It is very helpful. You are right. CakePHP is very intimidating and the documented tutorial was out of date. You're the man!

  • This video blog deserves 5 stars - good articulation, quick explanation and illustration

  • Very helpful. Thank you, sir.

  • ugg had a rootkit virus and thought my xampp installation was in error. Removed xampp, along with all of my databases. Then removed the rootkit, too late, realized that it was all the rootkit virus. all my drupal sites and magento sites all gone. have to start from scratch.

  • whats a good text editor for cakephp? Im on a window pc

  • @adrianchen19888 Window's has a lot of choices for text editors. jEdit, Komodo Edit, Sublime Text, E-text editor, notepad++. I like using Komodo Edit now with texter to make my own tab trigger text expanders for code snippets similar to textmate on a mac. I also like aptana 3 (IDE) as well because of how you can just hit tab and it moves outside of curly brackets, parenthesis, you dont have to use arrows to move through your code. Aptana 3 also has some really nice color themes as well.

  • @adrianchen19888

you can use Adobe Dreamweaver, or Zend Studio.

    +Good luck

  • @adrianchen19888 try NetBeans, its my favorite

  • i love this video, cant wait for the next lesson, you are good at explaning and the walk through is helping us novice user of the cake PHP framework

  • hope you can make more tutorials on using cake php!

  • Can you also include sql files for creating database,tables,...

  • Thank you for uploading a set of tutorials!

Although I'm not a English speaker, this is very easy for me to understand!

  • is cakephp better than Codeigniter ? in a top list of the better php frameworks , i saw codeigniter bellow cakephp (cause it says that cakephp is better in authetication) is that true ?

  • @dennis3380 Codeigniter is an excellent framework. It's very easy to use and is simpler than Cakephp is. I wouldn't say Cake or Codeigniter is better than the other. I chose Cakephp because of its built in ORM (it handles all table relationships for you and pulls in related data on queries, this is the main reason I chose cake), ACL, and the Auth component.

  • @andrewperk ok thanks!

  • Thank you, I look forward to watching the rest!

  • I recently found out about CakePHP and I am so amazed with its capabilities. I would like to thank you for helping me setup Cake. Very good tutorial.

  • is it the same process when using mac OSX???

  • @prince143 I don't use a mac everyday. I believe the majority of things should be the same. All of the cakephp specific file settings such as the database.php file, the core.php, security.salt, cipherseed should all be the same regardless of mac or pc. You'll probably have a different php/mysql/apache environment than WAMP most likely MAMP or something similar. Let me know if you have any problems and I'll see if I can help.

  • Will be learning cakePHP from your videos. a better resolution would have been nice.. but thanks for the tuts..

  • @travesurahouse Sorry about that. I knew nothing about making videos or setting up a screen recorder when I made these videos or how to get good quality. Since they were readable I posted them and as you work through my videos you'll see the quality increases as I learned more. You should still learn from them just fine. Good luck, cake is a lot of fun to work with.

  • @damlemail -> Are you kidding? This tutorial is great... helped me out quite a bit while deciding what framework to begin with... The tutorials are perfect... Get off of your high horse!!! Andrew is extending his knowledge to you for free and you have the nerve to criticize his speaking methods? He's a damn developer... you can't expect him to be a public speaker also.

But hey, I am sure he is truly sorry for not keeping you thoroughly entertained by changing his speech patterns.

  • Hi Andrew,

I just wanted to say that your series of tutorials is very good at building up the basic cakephp features. It has been a big help.

  • Mr andrewperk thanks for posting these videos. help me how to send the mails, how to get dynamic select box from database and how to call the ajaxs and javascript in cake php dont forgot to post ist my request

  • next time please upload in HD

  • Hi, I am learning CakePHP and I found your tutorial very easy to follow and crisp.

A couple of tips on improving:

    - Your commentary (although very worthy in explaining things) gets a bit monotonous and low pitched. To make it interesting, you could vary the tone, pitch, mood and speed of talk. Not a lot, just a little. Check out the style of speaking of Kai Ryssdal on NPR Marketplace. He is excellent.

    - You could use a bit of humor in the content you show.

    Thanks for all the help!

  • Also it's useful to know how to build a cakephp tutorial from its shell. This will do database setup through the controller, and initialise settings like the security salt automatically.

  • @ivolol Correct, but if I start the tutorial off using cakes bake right away people don't understand how to install manually, where to change things, how the model/controller/view interact or understand the most commonly used methods. I think it's best to teach how it all works, then teach how to automate it all using bake once you understand it. I will be covering bake in video 10 which will be uploaded hopefully sometime this week.

  • 1.3.1 should work exactly the same as 1.3, you should be able to just replace it

  • great tutorial, thank you! the blog tutorial video on the official site doesn't load for me either.
