I got to see him live a few weeks ago at a jazz festival that my high school jazz band was performing at. He's one of the coolest guys you'll ever meet, and plus he did a two hour set and it was crazy!
that nite he played my C3 and my 770 leslie,i made that piece of wood for him and attached it to the start switch with a piece of wire.he loved it and since then he took it along to all the other gigs.
in that nite i turned 50 and it was the best birthday party,one can ever wish to have.

Never mind the turban and the showmanship - for me, in years to come, Lonnie will always be remembered for being funky, but also being able to bleed life out of every single note in a tune. Few other electric keyboards can afford this type of feeling and expression than the B3, and nobody exploits it better than Dr Smith.

I think,that the hammond sound could have some specific vibrations doing this, because the old mechanic versions produce also some random sound waves (it could have similar effects to body like some ethnic instruments such as tibetan bowls,but that`s just my opinion). I got shivers every time I listen to hammond organ, it is really magical instrument.

Why does he wear all those indian clothes and a turban? He's not from India he's African. I would think it gets hot under hose things when he's under all those lights on stage.

He wears Indian clothes and a turban for the same reason he started calling himself "Dr.".... because he felt like it. It makes him unique - how many other people do you know that wear turbans just because??
