I do a little bit of vlogging on a second YouTube channel (it's for my Nintendo blog) and I have very little concern for appearance - I'll comb my hair and make sure the lighting is ok, but that's it.
As for camera angles, I use my laptop's embedded webcam so I'm a little limited to what I can do there. One thing I do watch out for is switching to a side-shot of my face, as my nose is obscenely large!
In a nutshell. I don't really care. I mean I'm not going to look like disgusting or anything, but I am wiling to make a video when I wake up, after a shower, or heck, if for any reason I even play in the dirt I will still make a video.
I guess I follow the principle that I vlog like the vlogs I would like to watch. I don't mind watching videos of all of the above, so I guess I would make a vlog like that as well. I know what you mean about look presentable though.
Primp? no. Shave? usually. Camera angle? found one when I started. I stick with it. Lighting? I found a simple solution with one light off to the side. A professional filmmaker told me it looked like the lighting that Warren Beatty used for the interviews in "Reds." So, I kept it.
I spend more time focusing on the angle than anything. I'll comb my hair if it's nuts, but usually I just run my fingers through it. Lighting takes care of itself, my room is always pretty equally lit. I never make my bed before vlogging, and it's painfully obviously in the shot, but, I don't make it any other time either so, why lie for the camera? I do very little "touching up" after the fact too, usually just a boost to contrast, or greyscale it if it's a Monday. ;)
Yeah, the angle can really change the way your face looks on screen. And if you could see my bed in the background, you'd see it's also always unmade (shhh)
I do my best to make myself look presentable. If my hair looks like crap, I try to make it look manageable. I usually record at eye level, getting shot from the chest upwards.
I primp myself for my videos every bit as much as I do for going out in public . . . which is to say, not much. Not at all, really. I just turn on the camera and start talking. The only change in position I've really made is that I try to set up the camera so that I don't have to turn to face it, like I used to. Vlogdriver, of course, is inherently more limited with regards to appearance, but I'm not unhappy with it.
I TRY to make myself presentable. I love wearing that hat I do in my latest videos, and I try to match it with a vest or something. I also have my camera facing a little downward because it thins my face a little and, if you haven't noticed.. I don't have my top front teeth. So, I try to conceal that as well. And I'm also considering getting make up to cover my freckles, they are becoming more apparent. My Mom has them all over her face and I'm afraid iof the same fate. Meh.
I'm not too concerned. If I look horrendous then I have put makeup and fixed my hair. I've never changed my clothes or anything but I am usually in decent clothes. I am pretty concerned with my appearence in real life so it just follows through. I used whatever camera angle I can get at the time. I have set up lighting and stuff before but I find it easier to just record and not care about the lighting as long as you can see me. -Shelby BTW FIRST!

And camera angles, I agree that it makes video more interesting to watch. But I know lots of people are limited due to webcams and cables.

I pretty much make sure that the lighting is half-way decent, I don't look disgusting and dirty and the camera can't see any of the mess in my room.

That seems to be what most people do, just make themselves up about as much as if they were just going out in real life.

Well there's nothing wrong with using the camera angle to present yourself in the best way :)

That's true, it does become more of a hassle if you continutally worry too much about things like lighting and appearance.
