twentieth century goes back way before 1940 and the invention of old bay.. so where's the recipe? and why so personal? No reason for name calling..
and those aren't considered pre prepared ingredients,, they are simply prepared ahead of time. Old Bay seasoning is prepared,, store bought mayo is prepared..
You are SOOO not correct. as I said, and you just reitereated the recipes your using today are from the major companies like Old bay and wonderbread. Any idiot can tell you that Maryland Crabcakes were around long before the wonderbread company or Old Bay. If you want to think traditional you have to remove all pre-prepared ingredients,, which includes the canned crab meat. Tradition is not born of corporations, its absorbed by them.
I agree those are not TRUE MD crab cakes. No mayo, no chopped onions and no Old bay???? Also you aren't making them right if you don't get all messy when preparing them--thats half the fun. Is too bad cra meat has become so expensive I only make a couple batches each year and freeze them for when Football season arrives.
no these are true Maryland crabcakes. Old Bay didn't come around until the 1940's LONG After crabcakes were eaten in the area. This is traditional crabcakes, the modern ones came about from recipes on the back of old bay cans and are a result of commercialism, not traditionalism.
"duh?" Maryland is the mmm mmm good land of REAL crab (the lovely, tasty blue crab... it makes me salivate to think of it, even though to get it fresh is $20 a pound for lump meat!)
He does use Old Bay spice? Then it isn't a Maryland/Chesapeake Bay crabcake!

A good crabcake shouldn't need to have any sauce. What a way to miss the whole point of making a good crabcake.

Maybe it's just me but my crabcakes never look like oreos when they're done.
