I sometimes would like to know what country a person is from because I'm on the look-out for people to practice my languages on, which I hope is valid. I suppose another valid reason would be if someone wanted to know something because they were an aficionado of Thai food or Japanese food or something, and be on the look-out for people from that particular country. Everyone hates the Japanese cuz they tried to take a lot of Asian countries over, especially Korea. Taiwan is not a diverse country like the U.S, it's predominantly Han Chinese. People in the U.S., well bigger cities, would more likely be exposed to different ethnicities and AMERICANS of different ethnic backgrounds. That's her point.

I sometimes would like to know what country a person is from because I'm on the look-out for people to practice my languages on, which I hope is valid. I suppose another valid reason would be if someone wanted to know something because they were an aficionado of Thai food or Japanese food or something, and be on the look-out for people from that particular country. It's not necessarily supposed to be offensive.

The sentiment should be that it doesn't matter what we look like, that we are all human beings with the same desires, fears, and feelings, and that we should not prejudge anyone.
