  • Imagine a three dimensional plane instead of a two dimensional surface.

  • wtf is this!!???!

  • Comment removed

  • my dog just broke his neck while i was listening to this..

  • the architecture of the universe.

  • cool

  • maybe a spaceship made the sounds like that and made crop circles.. ..

  • does anyone know the origin of this film?

    who made it?

  • thumbs up if gazza marchant sent you here !!!

  • The patterns there are an artifact of the shape being vibrated. The rice collects at the spots on the vibrating object the move the least, the non-moving points in the standing wave. Only certain frequencies will resonate so as to create a standing wave with a given object, and that's why the rice only moves into new patterns at set frequencies.

  • That was quite possibly the coolest thing I've ever seen in my life.

  • this is soon to be a great stumble

  • Does anybody knows from where i can get the "annoying sounds" so i can make one for myself? Thank you very much :D

  • Hans Jenny was doing this in the '60's and Chladni in 1787. Check out Cymatics. It obviously demonstrates a relationship between matter (form) and sound and is the impetus behind Goethe's statement that "form is frozen music". It further demonstrates the power of sacred geometry to act as an antenna system for resonating with higher frequencies. gregory/metaforms

  • If anyone has done DMT, they are aware of the frequencies they hear before the hallucination, or should I say, divine intervention that takes place shortly after. Maybe the sound waves are an appetizer to the patterns you see, and possibly a precursor to God/spirituality/enlightenment experienced when in a state where we are more receptive to concepts above our understanding as human beings? Just a thought.

  • @BruisedEyeSockets an interesting observastion, ive never really connected the idea of the sounds directly to the visuals. waves!

  • Thanks mister Chaldni Qf0t4qIVWF4

  • check out David Wilcock Enigma 2012 on youtube for a hell of a ride thru the imagination.

  • the moment I observed the fractal-like arrangements at different wavelengths I was immediately reminded of the concept of vortex based mathematics by marco rodin.

  • empirical proof regarding quantum physics theory of waves/particles ... nice

  • damn, thats pretty sweet

  • Also, how the fuck does this get patterns?!!?!

  • Many of those images look like Mayan depictions of gods and astrology symbols.

  • @SondraGail then I assume you can demonstrate and show us some that look alike. besides I wonder how would it be possible to do it on such a large scale as some crops are without anybody noticing and also these patterns are rather regular whereas some crops as you know are absolutely not thus we can assume that those who make them are using different technique :)

  • that was SO COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I would put money on it that we'll find an alien life form that bases their "alphabet" on resonance structural patterns.

  • nice. why dont u translate the walls of Rosslyn chapel for us ! the designs on the walls are said to have been created using resonance

  • it is staggering to look at the truth behind material reality!

  • @OK2BCK Indeed, anything is made up from energy. And if that energy has a different frequency, you get atoms, and gold. Frequency = Material Editor.

  • If anyone is curious about how this works: Sound travels as a longitudinal wave. When waves overlap each other, they produce ares where they add to one another (constructive) thus bouncing the rice around. The areas where they match in opposite direction (destructive) there is nearly no noticeable movement, and the rice can lay motionless. Hope this helps :)

  • so if i put a piece of steak there, will it tenderize?

  • So what does this prove & how does this advance us or is there something deeper than what meets the eye?

  • we did this in physics class one day, it was SO loud

  • I'm not sure it's the actual rice. I think it's just the resonance of the membrane and the rice is responding to and showing taht

  • Comment removed

  • i like pie

  • Wonder what this does inside our heads, if rice gets that fucked up ^^

  • thumps up if you lowered the volume

  • This isn't resonance... It's more like the riceballs meet at nodal points where the sound waves cancel each other out. Someone breaking a wine glass with an opera voice is an example of resonance. lol

  • It's not fake. As a mechanical engineering student, my mechanical vibrations professor presented this video to our class during our discussion about mode shapes.... look it up.

  • Fake

  • The aliens have made contact!

  • Amazing video!

I'm a physics graduate and never saw anything like that!

    Congratulations

  • Somehow I can't help but feel like this is the language of Cthulhu.

And that you might've incurred his wrath by inadvertantly slandering his mother in this vid.

  • @J14ngL00 lmfao

  • Dogs must go going mental for miles around

  • Dogs like 5 miles away must have been shitting there pants! :D

  • This is not resonance. The patterns are caused by rice lying along the nodal lines created by a standing wave on the surface of the speaker.

  • ALIEN TECHNOLOGY!!

  • Would salt or sugar have worked better or worse?

  • can these rice designs be mathematically significant to explain frequencies or something else really cool?

  • @doughammond8 Yes.

  • wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow :o'

  • at which frequency u r doing this? any one plz tell

  • @niceshayana All of them? You can hear him increasing the frequency higher and higher. The rice is only moving at certain resonances hence it moves to one pattern ... he increase ... stops moving when moving out of resonance ... then it comes into resonance at a higher frequency (probably when the wavelength has halved?) and begins moving to form the next pattern and so on.

  • Oh my headphones are spoiling my ears!

  • it does travel through space you just can't hear it because it has nothing to bounce back to you off of. also, it seemed to me that when the rice formed those different geometric shapes it was always the next octave up of say the same resonance. i don't have perfect pitch or anything but that's what i got

  • @spillindillon1 No. Sound IS the movement and vibration of particles. In space there are no particles so the vibration of something (say a speaker) produces no movement. No particles are moved thus no sound is produced. Therefore there is no sound. If you had a vacuum between 2 areas of gas the sound would not transmit between them as there is no medium for the sound to travel through.

  • @spillindillon1 No, sound does not travel through space. Sound is not a substance that can travel. Sound is the vibration of particles, as interpreted by the human ear. Since space is devoid of any particles (in contradistinction to Earth, which is filled with air particles) there is no sound whatsoever.

  • fractals.

  • IT'S SALT!!!!!

  • looks like some alien language

  • More like RICE-o-nance!

  • coool!

  • That is just showing the natural resonant modes of the plate vibrating plate. The rice is falling into the nodes of the travelling waves forming the patterns.

  • This explains crop circles beautifully... the REAL ones.

  • smashing and lovely hig tuned Rice ...kicking Ass eeh Rice.....fig Bun .......

  • wow that is pretty cool!

  • there should be a disclaimer... my dogs went nuts when i played this vid. ahahah

  • Well... this is the simple explanation for crop circles, now isn't it?

  • @jimprjayp intereshtang! question is... are the sound waves above or beneath the earth?

  • @hearingGod I like the way you think!

  • OMG THIS SHIT IS AWSOME

  • Did anybody notice that at each octave the structure(s) seemed to open up...and I noticed the interval of the low fourth in the very beginning showed a nice 4-cornered, simple design. I think Copland would have appreciated this!

  • i love this sound =D

  • AAAAAH my head is going to explode!!!

  • pretty cool.

  • Shh... The Rice is speaking.

  • And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light! Genesis 1:3

The power of God's voice is apparent in this video. God could 'speak' one word, at a frequency we cannot imagine, and entire solar systems would burst into existance in the blink of an eye.

  • @itstime2vote

    You need help.

  • Headache = so worth it.

  • That was the shit!

  • Yeah me too!

  • wow what sound can do

  • FUCKING AWESOME!

  • amazing

  • I wonder if the patterns would be different on a round piece of-- whatever that black thing is-- like, are the patterns only a function of the frequency.

  • Sound sure loooks pretty. Imagine it in 3d.

    Watching sound in 3d.

  • @cyberduke23

Hmmm-- good idea-- imagine this done in space. They culd have a "rice cloud" and blast it with sound waves

  • @Yaheuben66 sorry but sound waves don't go through space..

  • @r3inhout

I meant like on the space station

  • @Yaheuben66 there isnt any air resistance for physical sound waves to vibrate through

  • @Yaheuben66 Too bad sound doesn't travel through a vacuum such as space.

  • had my earphones in, Ouch!

  • maybe this is how they make crop circles

  • @winitred000 just exactly what I thought! good thinking.

  • @winitred000 good idea!

  • it's like approval that everything is connected...you know

  • does the shape of the speaker have an effect on the patterns produced?

  • yes it does.

  • awsome

  • Are there anyone to explain why the prices goes that shapes with each sound note or each frequency?

  • This is some crazy shit! Fucking awesome, dude!

  • It's not just the vibrations, it's the deadzones of vibration where the rice accumulates.

  • What material did you use for the plate? Nice vid, by the way.

  • wow this is incredible =D

  • John: Wana cure cancer today?

Mark: Nah, I'm gona fuck around with rice today.

  • lol

  • Interesting, as more high vibrations, more complexe forms, really interesting.

  • tomol6, you are an idiot

  • wow

  • extremely cool

  • this video hurts my ears =x

  • lol, my dog hated this video.

  • wow, that's amazing, I bet all the dogs in the neighbourhood ran for cover. I'd be really interested to see how the patterns would form on a circular tray. I was wondering if the initial four corner shape was mostly because of the tray shape or just the sound vibration.

  • what is it sitting on??i want to try

  • so thats how they make crop cicles

  • You could well be right mate.. I don't by into it being ET's at least..

  • I tried to replicate this experiment at school for a physics project but no matter what i tried i could not get it to work. I was using a Guitar amplifier plugged into an audio frequency oscilator, with rice, sugar, salt, polystyrine balls. Why can't I get mine to work.

  • Jimmy - Are you making the plate vibrate? It's the vibration of the plate itself that causes the patterns to appear at different frequencies - not sound in the room. Just a thought... Good luck with your experiment!

  • how does this works?

  • the plate get shaking and at a certain frequency the waves, which are travelling in the plate, create points where there is NO vibration (called Nodes) and because the rice want to be in a "low vibraton zone" it jumps into these areas.

    sorry for my poor english...

  • It's called Wave Resonance.

  • turn off the sound, knuckleheads :) and someone tell me what the name of this phenomena really is ... and why it happens.

  • i believe its called cymatics . and i dont kow why it happens.

  • excuse me, what was that you said? I couldn't hear you due to the all the blood gushing out of my ears.

  • this explain very well to the tone music i been listening to of "evolution" i been hearing about, dude this explains everything!

  • Except the sound, it is a awesome movie.

  • it reminds me how cells devide

  • Spectacular......

  • My mind is blown. As am I in general.

  • that is sooo cool!

  • my ears =_=

  • This video gives me a headache.

  • More likely: the audio is giving you a headache ;-)

  • this is epic

  • its like crop circles

  • thats because crop circles are supposedly made by bouncing high frequency microwaves off of satellites onto the ground which then weakens the plant matter in specific shapes.

  • BEEP BEEEEEP

Sorry, my bullsh*t detector just went off.

  • the shapes get more complicated as the pitch rises, that's cool

  • This is cymatics

    Sound = consciousness and form

  • Same thing happens with the cornstarch monster. This is really cool. (Look up the cornstarch monster if you don't know what I'm talking about.)

  • ah my head !

  • Ouchhh...look out for your ears man.

  • one of the most amazing things I've ever seen

  • Is there a method to predict a map of the positions that the rice will settle on given just the dimensions of the material, the material properties, and the frequency?

    If so what?

  • It becomes easier to see the patterns if you split the square table into one of its eighths by cutting from the middle to the middle of a side and again from the middle to the corner.

  • Theoretically, you could simulate it with a computer, but I dunno who's tried. It looks like a standing wave thing, I'm sure there's a way to do it.

  • Great Video

  • that is so amazing

  • thats so cool.

  • wow!!

    -LokiHeart

  • that is NOT RICE RESONANCE, its the table resonance as a membrane with 2d spatial vibration. The rice stay quiet in the places were there is cancellation of the vibrating waves propagating the table.

  • ever feel like you're screaming into a black hole? :)

  • I don't know about him, but I do. "Youtube, the place where conversation goes to die."

  • That is INCREDIBLY awesome that pitches actually make patterns or designs. Thats so mind boggling....

  • All those high pitched sounds hurt my ears

  • I wanna try!

  • DATS AWSOME

  • very cool

notice how all of the formations are symetrical...

  • wow

  • so is this a natural phenomena, or is it engineered?

  • really cool!

  • either it is real or they know how to program things really, really, really well

  • yummy!

  • So cool! I love science!

  • exactly man... i don't know whether to be freaked out or smile with admiration

  • What does Uncle Ben's rice have to do with anything? I think this is freaking cool, how the rice illustrates to us visually how the sound waves affect speaker at different frequencies. All in all, pretty cool. XD

  • I wouldn't be surprised if this was the basis for some kind of technology that aliens use...but we're too dumb to understand what to do with it. =<

  • we're not too dumb, we're connected to the fourth dimension, its just not our strongest sense. we're mainly visual creatures, just like other animals get by mainly through smell or sound etc. no animal is truly dumb, just stronger and weaker in one sense or another... balanced. :D

  • I don't believe humans have a sense that can perceive or understand the fourth dimension...at least not yet.

  • Comment removed

  • There once was a note, pure and easy,

Playing so free like a breath rippling by...

  • ouch! it hurts my ears

  • i think it has to be uncle ben's rice, coz it doesnt't stick

  • lol
