Hi, start with one circle then nest all the tracks together. Then repeat the process again, but using the 'single' nested track instead of your original background layer. I hope that makes sense.
@GDVTutorials Hello I want to thank you for the reply and it kind of makes sense. So what I do is just repeat the process by making another layer with the same background and repeat the steps shown in this tutorial? I'm sorry I'm new at this and your help is really appreciated. Thank you again.
After watching this, it definitely seems like it is doable this way, but i was just wondering if there is a shorter or easier way of doing this effect? It just seems like there should be a way of of cutting out a few steps here and there
Hi, just press Option R to render the effect. Then you'll be good to go. Normally an effect like this should play in real-time, but there are MANY variables that affect real-time playback when dealing with effects.
For starters: Make sure the RT button in the upper left corner of the timeline window is set to RT Unlimited. If the choice isn't there, then you're probably using a non-standard codec that does not offer real-time effects in Final Cut Pro.
For simple processes like this video tutorial, your system should be able to play this effect in real-time.
You can turn on the ‘unlimited RT’ option by clicking on the RT button in the upper left corner of your timeline window to improve real-time playback.
There are many other variables that could affect real-time playback. For example, using a non standard codec, or HDV media is very processor intensive. Therefore, you may want to convert your media to pro-res.
It doesn't work for me. When I apply the effect, it looks great, but when I render it, it's see-through. Is the fact that I have two video tracks underneath (one overlaying the other) my problem? If so, is there a workaround?
Hi, yes... just invert the circle so it's a black circle instead of a white one. You can do that by applying an invert filter located under Video Filters / Channel / Invert.
Are you using Final Cut Express by chance? If so, you can accomplish the same effect by using the Luma Key effect within your effects tab. Same concept.
Nice Video but i think it need more effects.. you can get nice video effects plugins and addons from aries-films file section. Just google for Aries-Films man.. pc
Great tutorial!! how would you add a second filter? let's say I want to cover two faces. if I add another oval filer and do the same thing, I don't get the same result.. any advice? thanks a bunch!
@GDVTutorials i figured out how to nest, but it seems that after i add the gaussian blur to the nested sequences and select travel matte luma, and when i try to move the travel matte around, rather than moving the blur, it moves the entire frame while the gaussian blur circle stays put in the center of the window.
ok i notcied that when you set a key frame you dont have to repeat pressing the little diamond....what are u doing that makes that work...cuz i have to individually press the little diamond everytime i move the time line
the most helpful blurr tutorial on here. really appreciate this. never though it would be this easy

Hi, is it possible to do this in Final Cut Express?
timjonesoxforduk 1 year ago
Yes, I believe so, but you would do it a different way. Does Final Cut Express have a mask shape filter? If so, it would be under the Matte Category.

Do you repeat the same process if there are two faces that need blurring out?
ALesnick02 1 year ago
@ALesnick02
Same exact steps, but you'll need to nest or mixdown your video tracks first. Meaning, you'll need to combine V1, V2, and V3 into their own layer.

How don't you need to render??

oribali1 1 year ago
Hi, hummm I need a little more information. You need 3 Tracks lined up like this:
V3 (exact copy of background video from V1)
V2 (white circle)
V1 (backgound video )
Make sure the composite mode for V3 is set to 'travel matte luma'
Then the blur filter needs to be applied to V3.
Make sure V1 and V2 do NOT have composite modes applied to them. That should do it.

When i drag the circle to the superimpose its says insufficient content for edit please help
gs97tech 1 year ago
That's okay, just make sure you create a 'circle' sandwich with the white circle between the two identical layers.
To get superimpose to work, make sure you are parked directly over the clip and V1 is patched to V1.

Easiest way to do that is to nest all the layers into one layer, and start the entire process over again. I hope that makes sense.

kinda.. what I did is I saved my video after the first filter, then I reopened and applied the second one.. thought there might be an easier way
