  • the most helpful blurr tutorial on here. really appreciate this. never though it would be this easy

  • Thank you so much. Great tutorial!

  • This is a great tutorial. Thanks for sharing this.

  • Aaah, lindsay lohans magazine had to be blurred

  • Great tutorial, thanks for the help.

  • hi,

    great tutorial,

but i have a problem, i've got Final Cut Pro X and i can't seem to find the same tools in the same positions etc...

what else can i do to find out how to use it to create a moving blur...?

    thanks.

    Gav.

  • Perfect tutorial. Short, to the point and very effective. Thanks!!!

  • Okay, no problem. Just put the blur filter on the bottom layer instead of the top layer.

  • and if i want the opposite ? Blur the outside of the round object?

  • cool....

thank you this make video ...

  • How would you add two circles?

  • Hi, start with one circle then nest all the tracks together. Then repeat the process again, but using the 'single' nested track instead of your original background layer. I hope that makes sense.

  • @GDVTutorials Hello I want to thank you for the reply and it kind of makes sense. So what I do is just repeat the process by making another layer with the same background and repeat the steps shown in this tutorial? I'm sorry I'm new at this and your help is really appreciated. Thank you again.

  • Yes, I hope that makes sense.

  • @GDVTutorials Thank you for your help! you are an angel!!!

  • @GDVTutorials how do i 'nest' the tracks to behave as the source track? thank you for the great tutorial.

  • HUGE help man thanks so much

  • excellent tutorial....step by step ive done several license plate blurz..cool Thanks..

  • Is nothing on Final Cut EASY?!

  • For some reason I laughed when he said "Blur out the kid's face"

  • After watching this, it definitely seems like it is doable this way, but i was just wondering if there is a shorter or easier way of doing this effect? It just seems like there should be a way of of cutting out a few steps here and there

  • I do exactly what you did, but once I try to play it back, it says UNRENDERED!!! = [

  • @ThePrinceOfDHeights

Hi, just press Option R to render the effect. Then you'll be good to go. Normally an effect like this should play in real-time, but there are MANY variables that affect real-time playback when dealing with effects.

For starters: Make sure the RT button in the upper left corner of the timeline window is set to RT Unlimited. If the choice isn't there, then you're probably using a non-standard codec that does not offer real-time effects in Final Cut Pro.

  • You make this look so easy! Thanks for the tutorial!

  • Great tutorial easy to follow! Thank you!

  • very very helpful thank you for making this video

  • When I try to do the blur, nothing happens, help!

  • thank you !!!

  • Does this work in Final Cut Pro 7; is this Final Cut Pro 7 (I'm new to the Final Cut game).

  • Hi, this tutorial was made using Final Cut Pro 7.

  • Hi, is it possible to do this in Final Cut Express?

  • Yes, I believe so, but you would do it a different way. Does Final Cut Express have a mask shape filter? If so, it would be under the Matte Category.

  • Do you repeat the same process if there are two faces that need blurring out?

  • @ALesnick02

Same exact steps, but you'll need to nest or mixdown your video tracks first. Meaning, you'll need to combine V1, V2, and V3 into their own layer.

  • Thank you! I wouldn't have been able to do my video without you!

  • I haven't tried this yet but I'm assuming it'll work. Fantastic instruction and very clear thanks a lot!

  • Uhm, mine wont follow.

I do EXACTLY as you say, but it wont follow the face

  • For simple processes like this video tutorial, your system should be able to play this effect in real-time.

You can turn on the ‘unlimited RT’ option by clicking on the RT button in the upper left corner of your timeline window to improve real-time playback.

There are many other variables that could affect real-time playback. For example, using a non standard codec, or HDV media is very processor intensive. Therefore, you may want to convert your media to pro-res.

  • How don't you need to render??

  • JESUS CHRIST

  • Hi, hummm I need a little more information. You need 3 Tracks lined up like this:

V3 (exact copy of background video from V1)

    V2 (white circle)

    V1 (backgound video )

Make sure the composite mode for V3 is set to 'travel matte luma'

Then the blur filter needs to be applied to V3.

Make sure V1 and V2 do NOT have composite modes applied to them. That should do it.

  • It doesn't work for me. When I apply the effect, it looks great, but when I render it, it's see-through. Is the fact that I have two video tracks underneath (one overlaying the other) my problem? If so, is there a workaround?

  • Is it possible to do the opposite? Blur out the black and not the white part of the circle?

  • @iWorldWebshow

Hi, yes... just invert the circle so it's a black circle instead of a white one. You can do that by applying an invert filter located under Video Filters / Channel / Invert.

  • really informative thanks

  • thanks for another amazing tutorial im suscribed now

  • haha lets start out by blurring out this kids face

  • can you use any other blur filter?

  • @graffitipo

Hi, yes, you certainly can. You can use ANY filter. It's the same exact steps.

  • thanks so much

  • Thanks alot for this :) x.

  • Good demonstration - I was able to do this following your video - could not do so off of some others. Thanks

  • Good vid, Only two days with final cut and i know how to blur.. Thanks

  • Very helpful. Thanks for posting.

  • When i right click on the clip it doesnt come up with all of that stuff it just says like all of these other things:/ why doesnt it show up?

  • Are you using Final Cut Express by chance? If so, you can accomplish the same effect by using the Luma Key effect within your effects tab. Same concept.

  • @GDVTutorials Ohh yes i was using final cut express. Thankss

  • i have express version. when i right click on the v3 clip, "composite mode" does not show up. is there any other way to access this?

  • great :)

  • When i drag the circle to the superimpose its says insufficient content for edit please help

  • That's okay, just make sure you create a 'circle' sandwich with the white circle between the two identical layers.

To get superimpose to work, make sure you are parked directly over the clip and V1 is patched to V1.

  • I could not do it, tried and tried.

  • Thanks a lot!

  • Very neat, informative and professional!

  • Nice Video but i think it need more effects.. you can get nice video effects plugins and addons from aries-films file section. Just google for Aries-Films man.. pc

  • Great tutorial!! how would you add a second filter? let's say I want to cover two faces. if I add another oval filer and do the same thing, I don't get the same result.. any advice? thanks a bunch!

  • Easiest way to do that is to nest all the layers into one layer, and start the entire process over again. I hope that makes sense.

  • @GDVTutorials

kinda.. what I did is I saved my video after the first filter, then I reopened and applied the second one.. thought there might be an easier way

  • @GDVTutorials i figured out how to nest, but it seems that after i add the gaussian blur to the nested sequences and select travel matte luma, and when i try to move the travel matte around, rather than moving the blur, it moves the entire frame while the gaussian blur circle stays put in the center of the window.

  • Ok, I worked around my problem. Thanks for this tutorial!

  • @richyriff

How did you get round it?

I have the same problem, and I really need to do this for my video

  • When I try to superimpose the circle shape over the footage, it says "Insufficient content to edit". Any ideas on what my problem is?

  • ok i notcied that when you set a key frame you dont have to repeat pressing the little diamond....what are u doing that makes that work...cuz i have to individually press the little diamond everytime i move the time line

  • Parabéns! simples, didático e objetivo !

  • Thank you. that wuz very helpful!!!

  • This is very helpful. Thank you.

  • excellent

  • Super Well Done! The text reinforces the instructions perfectly! 5 Stars!

  • This is fantastic. Thanks much!
