The song that Murry Wilson and Capital records raised the roof about. Brian (Wilson) was in a contract with Capital (with The Beach Boys) and wrote this song and gave it to Jan & Dean. He then performed on it in the background. LOL. Brian loved working with his friends. It was Brian's first #1 hit. Brian rocks!

Video aside (fun stuff), I've not heard this particular mix/version, although the 'quality' may be an important factor, I do remember buying a vinyl LP in the 70s of Jan and Dean's hits and there was some great music on there and of course Brian Wilson was involved in much of their stuff which can only be a plus. Fab 60s music!

fun song, but surf city is Huntington Beach. This is Topanga and Malibu...about 60 miles north. It's not surf city. Be that as it may, check out Jan and Dean in Las Vegas. They are older than dirt, but they still have it. They actually sound better now. Their fans are geriatrics, but who cares. They are still great. Geriatrics can rock as well. We are all getting older.

My parents had the Jan and Dean album Little Old Lady from Pasadena, and my sisters and I listened to constantly. I was thrilled a few years ago when I found it in a double CD with Ride the Wild Surf. This was a great blast from the past!

I got to know both Jan & Dean but never saw THIS clip before! I'd love to see the whole 1963 pilot. The soundtrack IS pretty bad -- low fi and not the hit mix. What I would do is resync the footage to the real high-fidelity hit recording and clean up the audio during Jan & Dean's front seat conversation. Jan & Dean did have a superb sense of silly balanced with Jan's insistance on recording studio perfection. Ironically, Dean did not sing on "Surf City," which Jan cut while Dean was away!
