It is not the most cosmopolitan place you know and they have a pretty long and well known history of having an us vs them mindset.

I am not saying that they are bad people, but that is how most people think in the small town and rural South.

Unfortunately, it's not just in the South. I've seen the same attitudes in New York City, Seattle, Wa and all over the states. It isn't a regional think, it's all over. There are certainly those of us who don't have this mentallity, but it is pervasive all over the States.

There is nothing wrong with having a strong military and the US has nothing to apologize about it.

However, the moral problem we do have is how we have used our military might. With great power comes great responsibility. Using the military to achieve some nefarious economic advantages or some misguided ideological goals only serve to make this country less safe and less credible as a world leader.

We have to use the military as wisely and as responsibly as possible.

The AMOUNT of money we spend on defense is a disgrace. We are a militaristic and jingoistic nation. If we spent a quarter of our defense budget on international development, we would save more lives than any alleged war for "freedom" ever has.

Spending on defense isn't a bad thing, our defense is crucial because it not only protects our interests world wide, but also provides economic stability. That's just how it is...every country is for itself. If the U.S. were to let down its guard, it would have great consequences.
