  • 4:36 :O Impressive! I've seen this video countless time and never noticed Shannon drumming with one hand while playing bass with his other! These three band members truly are talented.

  • Damn! What a piece of music! Nothing less than fantastic!

Just a little question: is the man with the hat and the trumpet from Denmark ? :)

    - He is wearing a "Bevar Christiania" shirt!

  • This song is about every Government that furthered their own agenda's at the expense of minority groups and ethnicities within their own nation. He does use Katrina, Bin Laden, the war on terror and the "children overboard" incidents as points to bolster the message within his lyrics.

  • nope must have been something else oh well Thank you You Tube

  • Was it " what has your government did for you" Speaking to people of USA

  • Oh my god this is lovely! Such a change from his regular music style, but in such a good way.

  • Gov did nothing to uphold human equality rights. Indigenous or independent thinker. Aboriginal or Assange.

  • don't get me wrong, Vicka has one of the most beautiful voices you will ever hear... but shut the f**k up, i can' hear john playing

  • that is just a FANTASTIC musical collaboration...

  • A FEAST FOR THE EARS!!

  • I love this track for the fullness of the music. Rock and Jazz. Very diverse in its delivery and origin. Very New Orleans at the end of the track. Wow how many government situations have you seen anguish and the government do nothing. Wow very powerful.

Way to be prejudice. For a liberal, I thought you wouldn't have been one to use prejudice at all. Next time just comment on the song.

    Great song btw!

Im sure you will get offended by this even though it isnt near my purpose, JBT's purpose for his music is very similar to Bob Marley's in that he wants to bring people together not tear them down, so whether you like or dislike bush or obama, why do you want to tear them down? they are human and mess up just like everyone else, but tearing them down helps no one...as americans we have our right to say and believe what we want, but we shouldnt abuse that freedom with hate.

  • Hello.. Nope, not offended at all.

But hey, it's not just americans who have the right to say and believe what you want !! Now listen to this track again at 1.50 onwards and tell me that the lyrics aren't implying the bush government to be racist. Also, notice that at the end of the track they bring in a new orleans style jazz band.. so to me that means what the tracks about is the floods in new orleans and "tearing down" the government for doing nothing to help them

    bad mistakes I can forgive

  • This is NOT jazz.

Looks like you still hate jazz music.

  • yeah is a blues funk fusion, not jazz :) you dont like jazz try listening to Stanley Jordan, one of the vids of songs you know, he might change your mind on jazz :)

  • holy shit that woman singing just gave me the most intense goosebumps of my life

  • me too. and she doesn't use any words, amazing, isn't it :)

  • Always reminds me of "Great Gig in the Sky" by Pink Floyd. Check that out if you haven't heard that.

  • Dark Side of the Moon is my favorite album but ive never made the connection until now, thanks man

  • if ur into reggae at all u should check out the album "Dub Side of the Moon" by Easy Star All-Stars, its basically just a reggae cover of Dark Side of the Moon

  • bua bua easy star is great i do their version of karma police from radiodread!

they do some good covers iree stylee.

john butler is one of my favorite of all time.

  • nice med bevar christiania trøjen :)

  • haha ja hvor fedt! :D

  • Awesome. Feel sorry for the clarinettist. Plays his heart out from 7:40 onwards and all we get to see are all of the other musicians backing him up.

  • The camera people probably didn't know where the hell that inane solo was coming from :D

  • @youfelixzim i was wondering what that was! thanks for the clarification

  • awesome percussion

  • one of my favorite songs by him so real has so much substance

  • onelove....

    word!

  • now thats a jam.

    onelove

  • love these guys with a passion, but why are they singing about the USA? theyre from australia and should sing about australian things. like vegamite... :)

  • they're talking about how the Australian gov basically has done nothing to help the indigenous people ..the true owners of the land kinda like Canada and the native population here

  • good to see some people understand what the song is about ^^ thank you man

  • @Drennan3 Actually the song topic is about 'gov did nothin'' for hurricane Katrina victims, nothing to do with Australia. Listen to the lyrics. Listen to the drums and feel of the song, its based around the New Orleans 2nd line rhythm, listen to the brass solo.

  • @Drennan3 i thought it was about bush doing fuck all when hurricane katrina hit new orleans

  • @Drennan3 Naw dude, it's about the gov not helping the people of Katrina. Hence "living on my roof in the land of forgotten" and "wading in waist deep water." Also the Louisiana style jazz jam at the end.

  • @DontRunBand it was Lousiana jam version of Dark Side of the Moon xD

  • @DontRunBand I believe it's about more than just Katrina. Katrina is just one part of the song. What about "G be Indiana Jones'n diggin up the east stealin dinosaur bones'n/He don't dream of stoppin/Chasin his tail trying to find Bin Laden"

That to me sounds like anti war lyrics.

  • @Drennan3 Although John has spoken on such things before, he is specifically referring to Hurricane Katrina in the US.

  • @Drennan3 Actually, this is a song about the U.S. government, in relation to helping the victims of cyclone Katrina (2005) in the Southern United States, who were mostly African-Americans. An absolutely amazing song, too. Love the jams! :D

  • @OutWanderin The drummer's name is Michael Barker. The bass player is Shannon Birchhall ;)

  • @NnizZzenN Yes you are right, my mistake

  • @OutWanderin hehe ;) happens for everyone ;)

  • @Drennan3 please tell me your kidding and that your really know that its the American Gov and Hurricane Katrina

  • Damn, that singing by the female gave me goosebumps. They love this stuff and so do I.

  • ditto

  • see this is what musics about... MTV take some notes why dont you

  • i wonder if these people are passionate about what they do huh.

  • awesome song!!! thx for the add

  • What a voice that woman has.... Gotta love the JBT

  • she killed it lol

  • This is like one of my fav songs by John Butler Trio. its about hurricane katrina and how our government did nothin about it. The lyrics are sooo good on this song and the instrumental at hte end is just amazing. this is real music

  • Yeah. Those three days sucked. But then our government did everything about it.

  • the US government did nothing about helping the victims of katrina and plus they denied the help and the doctors that Cuba offered... just because of not ruin their image... and asking from Cuba to help them...

  • I saw them in Glastonbury in 2005 and have loved them ever since. Such a relaxing band to listen to, but really makes you think when you listen properly :) Great guitar playing from JB as well :)

  • Come to New England

  • ŚWIETNE!

  • OH MY GOD!

  • Yes, I wanted to say something different, but that's all I can say!

  • these guys are true musicians! saw them in Chicago at Lollapalooza.... please come to Canada soon!

  • Now this..this is music.

Music is something that you listen to..and not hear.

And I'm listening to this...out of this world..

  • Anybody know what kind of instrument that drum is?.Where the pitch keeps changing around 4:10

  • That's a talking drum...aka..adondo or gan gan...mostly played in Northern and Western Africa

  • this is so good!!!!!!!

  • killer :)

  • unreal

  • Truly epic. JBT are just unreal. Clearly someone has done a deal with the Devil!

  • yeah, that's kinda how it feels, he/they're so good it's almost out of this world
