@mexskank you want "fiber reactive dyes" like procion mx, or start with a Jacquard tie dye kit which includes the dye bottles, some bands and instructions. Dharma trading company sells these procion mx dyes online.
hey ... i love your vid! ... waiting for my dye to set in so i can open and and see what they look like!!!! i sent ya a buck, u totally deserved it and more! .. i didnt write my email in there but i should come up under mirka marlowe ... or something like that ... just email me the 10 tips when you get a chance to mirkamarlowe@yahoo.com .. thanx much!!!!
@1516566 thanks it takes practice but with the folds you will get a peace sign. hope it comes out well . hope you send the buck the tips are worth it, if you are a newbie.
I loved your video!!! I would however liked to have seen you take your peace sign tie-dies to completion. I felt like I did the dieing with you and I don't feel like I got any closure... I am still suspended in suspense wondering how the shirts came out. I also would really like to know where the red is!!! At any rate great video!!
the peace signs you seehanging on the grey backdrop in videos one and two are actually the peace signs dyed in three i made about 47 videos and the dying video was early and i made a lot of the folding oneslater so you do see the end product
FWACK! thanks for sharing this! i really wish i could send you a dollar coming from a third world country but that would cost more than a buck to send it.
@kaintae123 sooooo send me more then the postage. i would love to recieve foreign money its so interesting. just kidding you and only you are excused from sending me a buck. thanks to all that do i appreciate it . i also appriative comments.
why does no one ever show the finished product?! That's what everyone is most interested in...how it turns out!! SO frustrating. Good video though. :)
@CampbellScot the finished project is behind me i did 49 videos trying to show this on youtube part 3 is me dying the two pieces that are behind me in part one and part 2 i made them backwards videos can only be 10 minutes. the folding is the same. people do not show finished piece because you have to cure or batch for 24 hours.in my video i mention if you do not know how to wash out let me know and i will send with tips.
@thelolshow101 not with the dye i use. acid dyes need heat i do not use other dyes so maybe the ironing works it works with paints.but let me say this. if it works for you . then do not i said do not change. sometimes i think things work because you simply believe it works. i heard in africa they beat the garment the heat from the beating friction sets the dye. dye is cool
@Uniquelyyours1 hard to answer that except there are an infinite number of ways of doing things in tie-dye. dry ,wet ,thickened dye,dry dye, snow dye . its all right there for you to experiment. i can not tell you what not try. yes i have used thickened dye. i use it for different effects and techniques. it does make dye more vibrant .i prefer the magic of unthickened dye to the magic of thickened dye
if you have not tried thickened dye then by all means you must try it. its a blast.
Good evening. Our local professional photographer called me today (they buy my tie dye for photo shoots) and wondered if I do peace signs. They need a big one on a king size sheet for a very big photo shoot that's coming up in April. Well, of course I said I do now. After learning your way of doing them I feel confident that I can do it for them. Thanks to you and some practice I can't wait to get started on it. Oh, and to all of you who mock, I think you should hush up. More peace & love 2 you.
I know your tips will be helpful. I have only been tie dying for 2 and a half years and I will be 58 this coming Sunday but some of my tie dying friends think I am way ahead of my time. I first did tie dye back in 1967 but it was with rit dye and it washed out after several washings. I can't wait for your tips. I do hope you make more videos. Today is a beautiful day in Michigan. Peace and love to you.
Hello. I was wondering if you received my dollar yet. Hope so as I'm excited to see your 10 tips to better tie dye. My peace signs are getting rounder. Thanks again for a fantastic demo. You should get a prize. Take care.
my tips on the first hand may not seem like much . i hope they do not disappoint you. they are things i learned early on and things i learned through the process of tie dying for 23 years. they are aimed at making a better looking ,less boo-boo filled tiedye.
Hello again. I tried your technique on a square piece of rayon cloth and it turned out really great except the circle was shaped like a hexagon. Next time I will draw the arc on it and fan fold on the line instead of eye balling it. I never tried the traditional way before because it was too complicated for me. Your way is soooo easy. Thank you so much. I will be sending you a dollar for your 10 tips for better tie dying. I hope you do more videos. Peace.
dye on screens!!! I just use the same one my mom cooks the turkey on at thanksgiving(:
it comes right off, and it makes everything soooooo much easier!! put it over a box w/ a little newspaper at the bottom and clean-up is basically done for you
yes when i do one or 2 pieces i use the screen i got from dollar tree. but iam usually dying 72 pieces at a time and screen ca be hard to use some people make a table top of some fencing and the dye goes in to a drain.
make sure your mother does not use that screen to cook in.any more
the peace sign is the first thing i dye the actual peace sign gets dyed on the one minute 2 second mark the blue and green are the inside of the peace sign
on the second shirt the peace sign is dyed at the4:03 mark on the video

The lighting makes the folds hard to see. I would use a dark shirt for demo purposes. The instruction was good

I heard a tip and I want to know if its true! So after you wash it and dry it, does ironing the shirt on high heat make the colors last longer?

Hi Helen.
I know you fold and tie your shirt wet but do you let the shirt dry a little or do you dye it quite wet. Do you ever thicken your dye?
