@SBFHawk1 No, this is the earlier M91 Dragoon Mosin Nagant. It was never upgraded to the M91/30. The Mosin Nagant rifles had many models of which the M91/30 was just one of the more recent versions. Personally, I have a preference for the Finnish models. I own a M91, M27, and two M39's in addition to owning two Russian M91/30's.
Caliber of the rifle is 7.62x54R. R for Rimmed. The cartridge is rimmed, and head spaces on the rim. Bore diameter it appears as designated by the owner of this beautiful rifle, a .311. D stamped to accept Russian ammo during the war.
You know, without the explanations of the markings and the history, this is just another 'military surplus' rifle. However, as with most mil-surp rifles, there is ALWAYS a story. Some more interesting than others, and that's what makes these firearms so fascinating. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and abilities here for all of us to enjoy and admire.
I like them as well, although this type rifle has too much distance (in my opinion) between the trigger and the bolt handle, and makes rapid firing more difficult.
You could lop the straight bolt handle off and weld on a custom one and bend it to where the handle is over the trigger, much like the French did with the MAS 36 nad the British did with the Pattern 14/No.3 Mk.1 rifle if you want to remedy that, but I wouldn't butcher a good Finn M91.
Howabout an Arisaka? The bolt is right above the trigger. Which do you think is faster: straight or bent bolt. Also it would be great if you did a video with an Arisaka.
Ok, no sarcasm here. You have got to be one macho son of a gun to operate the safety as you did in the beginning of the video... I have 3 mosins including an SA marked sako M39 and each one just gets harder and harder to use! lol
This is also known as the M91/30 or Mosin-Nagant!!!

This is a very rare gun right? If so I have a friend that has one.
MrChanDalt 11 months ago
@MrChanDalt They are hard to find but I woundlt call them rare, but if ur friend has one he ought to keep it :-)

You must have thumbs of steel to operate the bolt lock safety that easily.
Nice shooting.

have you try mousqueton berthier 92 ?
druisteen2 1 year ago
that rifle probably has good history
I once took a closer look at a scoped mosin and I gotta say it was the first WW2 rifle I wasnt impressed with.
Mauser's action is far superior....but we both know which rifle is older
(when you think about civil war muskets and 5 shot bolt actions made less than a decade later you realize what leaps in technology these things were)
why havent you bought a K98 yet, or is the 1903 gonna do it for you?

Thank you,I agree!
I have, shoot, and have posted videos on all those other rifles you have mentioned here.
Thanks again, E.

How did you make the safety so easy to operate? My 91/30s mosin is extremely difficult to operate.
Thanks

This is definitely true of Mosins. Very nicely made vid, and such a beautiful rifle. Wish I had the range to do a long shoot like that!

Good shooting man! I love your vids, I'd love to shoot at those distances but in my country it just isn't possible.

looks like the ejector is worn... or do all mosins have weak ejection? great vid as usual!
1kperday 2 years ago
Thanks! The ejector is fine, I just work it open easy so the the brass doesnt fall far. Thanks again!

wow, they have the exact specimen on AIM right now. Good find. =]
