Hey Canon, I am going to help you out. Seeing as you have wasted years doing market research and analysing what people want. I'm just going to say all of the best things that have been in your cameras as of recent, then add about 10/20% to make it better. Who cares about marketing strategies, Just blitz the market.

Canon will not be fool enough to create the camera this guy is blabbering about else they will be killing sales of their 1D series. I would guess the most that Canon will do on 5DM2 upgrade will be to bump up pixels (40mp maybe?), add built-in flash and dual card slot but very little or no improvement at all on auto-focus department.

@Jlmald2510 the leica s2 37.5 mp and has a sensor in Leica S-Format, 30 x 45 mm bigger then Nikon D800/D800E with that many mp the frame need to be bigger or the hasselblad h4d-40 has 40 mp and the sensor is 33.1 x 44.2 mm so all i'm saying is don't just get more mp get a bigger sensor if you want more mp better photos
@cbanning4 I agree, I'm not sure why Nikon went this high with their D800 the Canon 5D MK II is quite high as it is. It will probably have its place with some photographers but may be limited and people wanting better low light capabilities will probably go for the D700 over the D800.

2. i don't think it will sport 4k video, but i think it will have 2k, and maybe an auto-focus option for video, and build-in stereo sound recording.
3. i think the auto focus won't be the 7d's, unfortunately. probably 9pts.
4. articulated screen like the 60d's will be a nice edition.

Your a nice guy...but I think you need to rethink the format of your video's and how you come across, and ps re-design your web site because it's hard on the eye.
Best 5D MkIII in my opinion would be: 26.1 MegaPixels, Up to 5 frames per second, 19 point cross type AF, DiG!C 5 Processor, Dual card slots, and ISO expandable from 50-25600.
I have the MKII and to be honest, the pixel resolution is too much. The classic was just about right for still photography, though 21mp's is probably better for movie. Whatever replaces the MKII will be hard to get hold of for a few years as it will be snapped up by movie makers who will buy them by the dozen at probably near to the 1DX price of 5k a pop.
FYI.... the Canon 5D Mark II will be replaced by the EOS C300. Engineers used the Canon EOS 5D Mark II to develop the new camera... so NO Canon 5D Mark III... should be interesting.
Not to mention, with higher MP, you get smaller pixels. Aka, shittier picture. Smaller pixels means more of them and also means heat. Aka, noise. That is why a 28-32MP sensor shall not be placed into the 5DIII.
What's the point in suggesting a spec list to Canon on a camera that Canon already started developing years ago and has already finished developing months ago, and will be producing with no possibility of changing within about a month from now?
You know what the current 5D mark II is pretty good already and all I think they should add on is pretty much an improved autofocus system and higher fps shooting rate :)

So you were talking about 28mp and you list two motion picture cameras that only shoot 2-4k instead of Still related technology. Just not any two motion picture cameras... Ones with the biggest fan boy foundation. Go pick up a Arriflex and shoot a strobe / flicker intensive shot with a 180 degree shutter and try to get the same results on a Red, Alexa, or any other runner up in the digital motion picture marketplace. Mr. ASC
here are some realistic ones: the single greatest issue with the video part of Canon DSLRs is the absolutely pathetic performance of the CMOS chip in terms of rolling shutter/warp/wobble, etc. It makes handheld footage practically unusable without an IS lens and/or an expensive support system. Next would be a better compression ratio so that color grading video can be more precise and banding would be reduced. After that would be 48fps @ 1080 and 60fps @ 1080.
I like the idea of 7d auto focus, Dual card readers. pixels at this point doesn't matter, and better more reliable ISO. (but I'm sure you can always be in a position where it's too dark)
Real audio output ports is a good thing to add, also.. I don't agree with taking the body from the 7d, but enhance the 5d one to the specs you are speaking about. The framerate SHOULD be higher, I wold rather have 100fps video than 2k or 4k. But RAW would have been nice. For the ISO settings, I would rather have the current settings enhanced, than just setting the highest possible ISO to a ridicculus number. The 5dmkII is more than good enough in low light, but over 1250 the noise is disturbing.
Just to add to your other comments. You want high a megapixel camera "without sacrificing image quality", well congratulations on being so specific. I thought "pros" were passed the my dick is bigger than your dick chase of megapixel numbers. All large megapixels do is hurt image quality and make a noisy sensor that is ultimately shit in low light.

I hope Canon aren't watching this. Your credibility went right out the window when you mentioned RAW, no DSLR is going to output RAW for the foreseeable future. 4K! Lets start by getting 60p 1080 moire free, alias free footage on a sensor that does actually resolve 2K, unlike the 5DMKII which is softer than it should be.
To be honest: Who cares about Resolution and megapixels? There are so many features every bloody cellphone is able to offer (like GPS or WLan). We want new features - not an even higher resolution.

- auto focus for video
- the digital zoom for video (like 600D)
- better Sound leveling
- more fps (something like 100fps would be cool for slow motion effects)

Canon CAN actually give the mk iii a 32mp sensor but it will come with a MASSIVE price tag. The leica s2 is 35 mp and is about $30 000 so a 32mp camera is gonna be VERY expensive.
usb 3, built in GPS, full time video auto focus, 50/60 fps 1080p... but honestly, the only reason stopping me from gettting a MK II is the MK III rumour... I bet if i buy a MKII tomorrow, canon calls a press conference the next day and the value of my MKII would drop like hell.
The MP myth is geting to my nerve. The more resolution in the sensor the more visable the noise is. Why do you thing the d3s is so good at high noise. It's 12MP. All mkIII needs is a better body and a better AF.

You're not describing how to build a camera, you're telling Canon the specs you want. No offense but I'm pretty sure Canon has a good idea on how to make a good camera that is relatively affordable, or at least how to adequately tap each market. Why not just upload a video saying "Make the best camera ever with a great quality to price ratio, the technology is there".

This is all obvious stuff, first Canon need to sort all the unacceptable faults with the MkII:
1. Sloppy fitting lens mount flange causing hundreds of complaints of lenses falling off.
2. Sloppy fit of battery grip to body making it unacceptably wobbly during tripod use.
3. Vague feeling shutter release button.
4. Pathetic level of weather sealing.
THEN start thinking about making it a better camera!!

there are barely any lenses that can resolve high enough for the 21megapixel 5dii sensor
ok canon's tele prime lenses have an outstanding resolution. but the rest usually needs to be stopped down to f5,6->f8 to make use of the 21megapixel.

Best 5D MkIII in my opinion would be: 26.1 MegaPixels, Up to 5 frames per second, 19 point cross type AF, DiG!C 5 Processor, Dual card slots, and ISO expandable from 50-25600.

Canon has already announced that they are going to put out a 4k video DSLR. Could it be the 5D Mark III? Hmmm...

I have the MKII and to be honest, the pixel resolution is too much. The classic was just about right for still photography, though 21mp's is probably better for movie. Whatever replaces the MKII will be hard to get hold of for a few years as it will be snapped up by movie makers who will buy them by the dozen at probably near to the 1DX price of 5k a pop.

FYI.... the Canon 5D Mark II will be replaced by the EOS C300. Engineers used the Canon EOS 5D Mark II to develop the new camera... so NO Canon 5D Mark III... should be interesting.

Not to mention, with higher MP, you get smaller pixels. Aka, shittier picture. Smaller pixels means more of them and also means heat. Aka, noise. That is why a 28-32MP sensor shall not be placed into the 5DIII.

So you were talking about 28mp and you list two motion picture cameras that only shoot 2-4k instead of Still related technology. Just not any two motion picture cameras... Ones with the biggest fan boy foundation. Go pick up a Arriflex and shoot a strobe / flicker intensive shot with a 180 degree shutter and try to get the same results on a Red, Alexa, or any other runner up in the digital motion picture marketplace. here are some realistic ones: the single greatest issue with the video part of Canon DSLRs is the absolutely pathetic performance of the CMOS chip in terms of rolling shutter/warp/wobble, etc. It makes handheld footage practically unusable without an IS lens and/or an expensive support system. Next would be a better compression ratio so that color grading video can be more precise and banding would be reduced. After that would be 48fps @ 1080 and 60fps @ 1080.

I like the idea of 7d auto focus, Dual card readers. pixels at this point doesn't matter, and better more reliable ISO. (but I'm sure you can always be in a position where it's too dark)

Real audio output ports is a good thing to add, also.. I don't agree with taking the body from the 7d, but enhance the 5d one to the specs you are speaking about. The framerate SHOULD be higher, I wold rather have 100fps video than 2k or 4k. But RAW would have been nice. For the ISO settings, I would rather have the current settings enhanced, than just setting the highest possible ISO to a ridicculus number. The 5dmkII is more than good enough in low light, but over 1250 the noise is disturbing.

Just to add to your other comments. You want high a megapixel camera "without sacrificing image quality", well congratulations on being so specific. I thought "pros" were passed the my dick is bigger than your dick chase of megapixel numbers. All large megapixels do is hurt image quality and make a noisy sensor that is ultimately shit in low light.

To be honest: Who cares about Resolution and megapixels? There are so many features every bloody cellphone is able to offer (like GPS or WLan). We want new features - not an even higher resolution.
Same vor video. My wishlist:
- auto focus for video
- the digital zoom for video (like 600D)
- better Sound leveling
- more fps (something like 100fps would be cool for slow motion effects)
Canon & Co have to look over the rim of their teacups and built NEW Features. The megapixel race is over...

Canon CAN actually give the mk iii a 32mp sensor but it will come with a MASSIVE price tag. The leica s2 is 35 mp and is about $30 000 so a 32mp camera is gonna be VERY expensive.

The MP myth is geting to my nerve. The more resolution in the sensor the more visable the noise is. Why do you thing the d3s is so good at high noise. It's 12MP. All mkIII needs is a better body and a better AF.

You're not describing how to build a camera, you're telling Canon the specs you want. No offense but I'm pretty sure Canon has a good idea on how to make a good camera that is relatively affordable, or at least how to adequately tap each market. i think the larger sensor won't give anything new. stop talking like a32 mp sensor will be the best thing they could do with it, i looked at the comments here and there were some really smart and good ideas, like 120 fps, faster burst, the iso performance should be better like you said, i think they should make it more of a sports type camera. with the 7D af system and a burst like the 1D mk4 and better iso, that would be awesome
