  • sorry about that last bit =)

  • critically think about your beliefs...all these comments about being slaves. you readily accept that as truth. Ask yourself why and take action, lethargic sloths.

  • hahahahahahah the end was so good

  • socrates was awesome. had no idea...

  • what would Bruce Willis do in that situation?

  • Crazy..just imagine if more people in our generation did this.

  • such a sad but inspiring story....

  • .....They cut out this video early...He actually ran down the sheep with his motorped in real life.

  • Of course THEY don't want people able to critical thinking. Thinking slaves would be much harder to control.

  • he had it coming how can we put up with such a dumb ass. shaun hannity

  • Comment removed

  • @asorlonnn

    Debatable, but possibly not true.

  • @MrNobody47710 Well, also, I believe his wife Probably got him killed

  • @asorlonnn - he was a focal-point for aristocrats rebelling against the democracy. The charge of impiety was largely irrelevant; he was seen as a potential figure-head for revolution.

  • @asorlonnn You're an absolute dumbass.

  • @TheScottKirk Its a semi joke stfu

  • @asorlonnn I humbly apologize. I was mistaken - I thought the CAPS implied emotion over it.

  • @asorlonnn Wut?

  • @asorlonnn Can you come up with a rational/logical explenation please? :)

  • great!!

  • not bad...time to study more Socrates

  • Hey awesome videos though, I wish there were more like this.

  • @ChromeFang If you search for 'Mark Steel lectures' on Youtube, you'll find a lot more like this. He brings it on a more humorous way, but still very interesting. I had a great time viewing it.

  • @degijsvisser thanks in advance

  • Poor sheep, what a jerk. =(

  • Socrates!

"at his trial, when Socrates was asked to propose his own punishment, he suggests a wage paid by the government and free dinners for the rest of his life instead, to finance the time he spends as Athens' benefactor."

  • The Socrates we know may have been a just concoction by Plato, for all we know.

  • I love this guy!

  • that's a pretty rad scooter...

  • we always kill the best and pursue the good

  • his trial may be that of mumia abu jamal's. I do not know much of it but listening to underground rap it seems as if he too was unjustly executed

  • The majority only won by a small majority. That gives me a little confidence in the world.

  • This should be taught to all children in the world from their first day in school. Had the world followed Socrates' teachings then it would've been a much better place.

  • @Paddis92 You speak as if it cant still be done.

  • You are not kidding. I am almost through my undergrad degree and not once from kindergarten until being a senior in college having been through a critical thinking class and intro to philosophy have I ever gotten this. Our democracy relies on this and to not have this be a priority of our educational system is really sad. I really feel cheated that the most important things I should have been taught in school was never taught and here I am at 22 learning it on my own.

  • So he suffocated to death...wow.

  • I think a more appropriate title would be "Socrates on Truth" or "Socrates on Certainty"; I found self-confidence to be misleading.

  • 3:00

Wait a minute. I thought this question was asked to Diogenes of Sinope - the whole idea of cosmopolitism.

Can somebody correct this statement or give some sources? I would appreciate that.

    Think...

  • sounds like alexander hamilton.

  • Inaccurate.

Socrates spent time in jail before his execution due to the crowning of the ship Delos. It was said to be a holy season, during witch the city was not allowed to be pouted by public executions.

These last conversations of Socrates with Phadeo are, by my opinion, the most poignant on the subject of honoring one's belief's even to the end of ultimate sacrifice.

To leave them aside in any conversation about Socrates regarding self sacrifice is travesty.

  • i was a "sheep" until i watched zeitgeist by peter joseph, but after that i did look at other outside sources.

  • I respect your personal opinion, but, I'd say you're still a sheep if you're following or agreeing fully with Zeitgeist only. Keep in mind that it's a documentary and, like most, is made to be convincing. Even though you did external research, I'm sure you only looked up views that support the theory of Zeitgeist, not beliefs against the ideas of that documentary. However, I must say that since I keep an open mind, I enjoyed watching Zeitgeist as well, though I may not totally agree with it.

  • @Thuglife1000 yeah your right but then again why go through the trouble of doing extra research that are against things like zeitgeist when daily life is basically a threat to the ideas which ZG proposes. Essentially, we've been researching beliefs against this documentary all our lives.

what i meant by my 1st comment was that i finally woke up and realized that i wasn't alone when it comes to opposing the whole system we live under. and here i am, now at a video about socrates.

  • @grimslider75 I see what you mean. And it's good that you're not living an unexamined life. By the way, if you've had people disagree with you when you've tried to make a good point (Or maybe even a good point taken from Zeitgeist), look up Plato's Allegory of the Cave. Although I'm quite sure you already know of it. Good luck!

  • @grimslider75 I feel you on that. Zeitgeist has many inaccuracies but the premis of what they are promoting is correct. A group of rich aholes control things and the resource based economy is a great idea.

  • he did it again, that really bothers me

  • @silversobe

"Every generation needs a new revolution."

    Thomas Jefferson.""

    Why?

  • because they are fun :)

  • because if we continuously accept the "norms" we were always taught then no progress would be made in society.

  • helpful*

  • Thank you sooo much...very helful

  • So Socrates could easily be considered the Jesus of Philosophy, yeah?

  • Except Socrates really existed, Jesus might not have.

  • scribd (dot) com/nb812

  • thank u for ur great videos on socrates... i truly enjoyed watching them.

  • The illuminati & our corrupt gov. continue to test Americans, Your either with us or against us, George Bush, As far as I am concern we need to burn the gov. to the ground it's corrupt, a fraud run by the Devil, Vatican, pope is the devil, Rothschild, 13 Evil families, Collions, Disney, Duponts, illuminati, bushes, kennedy's, Todds, ect. God vs. he Devil, the people vs. the Global Elites, everyone will be test soon enough.

  • The trial is one of the most famous of all time. Whether Socrates was punished unjustly is a thought-provoking and contested issue, which to this day inspires discussions about the nature and meaning of justice.

  • "Determine never to be idle. No person will have occasion to complain of the want of time who never loses any. It is wonderful how much may be done if we are always doing."

    Thomas Jefferson

"Every generation needs a new revolution."

    Thomas Jefferson

  • When you question what people believe to be their identity, they can get quite hostile, at least it's alot better these days.

  • 3:34 ... All of us can make the transition from being a sheep to being a thinking person.

Dr. Melamede ... "Cannabinoids kill Cancer Cells"

Dr. Liu ..."THC can kill Cancer Cells"

Dr. Guzman ... "THC can promote the autophagic death of human & mouse Cancer Cells"

Dr. Mechoulam ... "we gave THC oil drops 400 times to children 1 -13 years old with Cancer & prevented vomiting & nausea 100%"

  • Weed kills cancer?

  • Rick Simpson's Cancer Cure Hemp Oil is Cannabis extract full of Cannabinoids including THC.

Google "pubmed" / Enter words "Cannabinoids Cancer" ... 560 articles or visit my You Tube channel!

  • Thank you for spreading this suppressed truth.

  • Yes a study in Norway found that Marijuana kills the most common form of brain cancer within twenty four hours.

  • If you say you are a slave and act as one then you are a slave. There are many people out there of all different communities who are starting to ask themselves questions about what they have been taught from a young age. We all need to question what is presented to us. I was once a sheep but I woke up one day because of one book. Love to all.

  • What book was it,we should question everything.

  • Thanks for the interest. I was working on board a cruise ship with many people who had run away from life for an adventure at sea. We all seemed to be looking for something more. A friend gave me a book called 'The Celestine Prophecy' everyone seemed to be reading it. From this book I started to look at my life and what I really wanted. 15 years later and I'm a much better person and I have a better understanding of people and myself.

    Love to all x

  • gr8 video!

  • I thank thee for a very inspiring and enlightening video.

  • nice video but the vast majority do not have time and permission to think effectively due to lack of money, whereby a person has to spend his/her almost an entire time doing robotics things and lack of people who think the same as this person.Maybe a teeny weeny group may perform this apart from upper-class.

  • this is true the masses are the slaves and the upper class still use the masses for their fullfillments....A slave today could be driving a BMW and live in a big house but they are still slaves, they get up at dawn to go to work and come home in the evenings....

  • If your doing a robotic task wouldnt you have time to think then?

  • I love the scenery. I was just there, in Athens, last month and walked exactly where you did, the Agora, the Parthenon. I like your, and Socrates', philosophy about 'what is truth?' I had gone through that dialog numerous times when I was in politics. What I found was sad. Society hasn't changed much in 2,300 years.

  • I think Philosophy should be teached to all people no matter what level of education cus you can't put a label on good education everyone should have this education

  • if you are truly free and know thy self nothing needs to be taught you will know

  • that sounds real pretty and deep and it has some truth.

But you know what I mean, we don't live in a perfect world were everybody knows themselves or is free for that matter.

And even if you are free and know yourself you can still learn

(sorry for my bad spelling but i'm not from the US or UK)

  • i misrepresented myself a bit, learning should be a lifelong mission, to get to the point of being truly free, needs learning and hard work. Therefore our mission should be learning.

  • In that case I agree

  • @sub89 i think philosophy, art, and gym should be the only subjects taught in schools, and all othe subjects should be the responsibility of the parents to raise theyre kids with the skills they want based on what the parents do

  • @Dookiebutt47 yup theyre aint no rasin for scoolin

  • @derman077

He's referring to compulsory schooling, State schooling.

I disagree with him because it is the opposite of voluntary schooling, funded directly by fees paid by the parents and/or philanthropists and/or donations.

Voluntary schooling is more in tune with individuals and not with the mob, the majority, the State.

  • @sub89 taught*

  • @sub89 Socrates faced the death, only as ony a Saint Holy man can.

  • @sub89 Philosophy is by far more inportant to our democracy than for instance mathematics.

  • @sub89 Socrates would have given you a failing grade.

    He hated pedantic posuers!

    Just like you.

  • this is not a guide to happiness

  • Truth is genuine

    Truth is happiness

  • how is truth happiness

i feel happy while telling lies all of the time

  • Truly look inwards and understand that feeling. You may realize what is truth and fake. Perhaps someday that is.

  • that sounds nice,

but i don't think it means much

  • You know the truth. ........that you are telling lies.

  • If you tell lies all of the time, then your very statement is a lie. So, then you're really not happy while telling lies. You must be unhappy most of the time then. I would say that you really need to reflect on 'what is truth?' if you can stop telling lies for a moment.

  • That is your belief that telling lies makes you unhappy, but I do not value truth. Many times lies are playful and seen as a game.

No, I think you take that statement too far and apply it too strongly.

  • LOL true :)

  • oh that guys cool scaring the sheep away with his sun glasses 3:50

  • 4:14 , nice calf shot of his legs he works em out everyday i bet philosophize that!

  • this one and the nietzche ones are the best

  • beautiful documentary

  • I'm with you guys

  • what a guy!

  • im super fond of socrates

  • cool

  • where's part 2?

  • Thanks for uploading..it was a very well spent 24minutes :-)

  • everyone say he is ugly , why do i see him beautiful?

  • @ahmednabil Character is beautiful

  • did anyone get the symbolics in the end? make way sheep!

  • "the unexamined life is not worth living" one of the best quotes i have ever heard.

  • at first i thought it meant the after life aka heaven which is unexamined is not worth living lol

  • But Sócrates believed in democracy, he stay and face death, and dont escape.

  • he didn't believe in democracy of the government.

  • He did not belive in democracy because could not accept that everyone was capable of making rational/logical choice. He did not scape detah because he felt death was not end of living, as a philosopher he was curious about after life.

  • He can choice about escape or fallow the laws (even corrupted like in that moment), he make the choice, and say why in the Critón, read it

  • Thank you so much for posting these videos which provide a great deal of motivation. Greatly appreciated!!!

  • actually his method was very basic. He simply questioned people why they believe the way they do.

  • it's definately too bad he did. . . just shows that a democracy, or a vote by the majority in power can be wrong (i'm referencing the people who voted who killed him)

hmm, in his death he is proving his point

  • did-->died

  • The majority voted for slavery, the revolution prove another thought, idea with courage, conviction, consciousness, character

  • What beautiful teachings

  • It's a shame that people are still ridiculed today when expressing their own ideas.

  • No it isn't. Not necessarily. It's a shame that they are persecuted for them, but not that they are criticized for them.

  • @Jayhawkblue My ideas go as follows: Nothing exists except for an overweight serbian named Steve, contained within any given washing machine is a black hole, nothing is false except for the proposition "nothing is false."

Absurd ideas are ridiculed for being absurd. Perhaps a hostile reaction towards the stater of these ideas is unreasonable, but if we desire to learn what is true we must admonish and reject what is ludicrous.

  • @Jayhawkblue

The human population is carefully engineered to be ordinary and similar. It's much easier to market to idiots. There's been many years and money spent on cultivating the dumb masses. It's too far gone to fix. Humanity is a write off. I am waiting for the cataclysm.

  • Thanks for uploading the videos about Socrates, a true teacher, one of the most influential men for the modern philosophy and civilization.

He detected the method to expose the ignorance of another and to bring the wisdom for him. He was/is teacher not only for his students but also for the entire world until now!

    Happy New Year

  • He is one of my favorites for sure. Very interesting guy too.

  • @13alexander I have come not to destroy the law but to fillfiull by the explanation of the physical truth, he died for the sins of human transgression

  • Settle down Grasshoppers, do unto others et cetera, et cetera. Better still, lighten up it is a new Dawn, tomorrow....Happy New Year, y'all

    ajf

  • Happy New Year

  • socraets is one of my favorite thinkers of all time. not only did he think about his philosophy, he lived and died by his philosophy. a true example of how virtuous humanity can be.
