What lies beneath the surface of this endorsement is wishful/hopefull thinking that maybe, just maybe his last Public Action will somehow overshadow the traitorous failure he left to our troops in Iraq. Let me make oner more point: I think Colin Powell is a good man - as a person. His career was marked with indecision and mediocracy. What's more important? I think being a good man is more important. But his credentials as a leader don't earn much towards endorsing Barack - another person with very little real going for him other than he's a slick talking politician that has mass appeal.

Fongenie, to answer your question: Obama and Powell have very little going for them in that Powell never achieved anything - never actually did anything - in his career - except get promoted. Many say Powell is the reason we are in Iraq now as he talked the Pres out of finishing the job in the first Gulf war. Obama never was a "long time Senator". Obama has almost zero leadership experience and he does have Zero actual accomplishments. Both these guys have actually done very very little.

Colin Powell never achieved anything other than rank.He never won any military battles, never did much as Secretary of State - except resign. I retired from the US Army, as did Powell - no cushy desk job like Powell but Combat Arms all the way. Powell, formerlly known as "the Teflon Man" because his mistakes never stuck to him, was groomed for top office back in the 60's as part of the affirmative action program. I have a different view. Most blacks are voting for Obama because he is not like the blacks in leadership that we have been dealing with in the past. Our support for Obama is as much a rebuke of Jessie Jackson, and Al Sharpton, than just a vote for a black man. We know that he had to work 3 times as hard to be just considered even with the others, so he is by far the best out there, and is showing it. Al and Jessie were ok in their time but we want to progress in a different way now.

Gen. Powell thusfar has made only one campaign contribution. While he could have done so privately, he chose instead to do so in tandem with a press release: To John McCain for the maximum allowable amount...They are "longtime, good friends." He is also still known to be good friends with Gen. Schwarzcopf, who also endorsed McCain, as did Powell's own son. It is unlikely that any Obama endorsement is forthcoming...perhaps a trump card announcement of a McCain running mate is in the works.

I would still say 'unlikely' however when you consider the defense and foreign policy positions are more in line between Powell and McCain to the point that they have actually shaped policy together that McCain has actually brought not only to his campaign but to the Senate floor.

This Presidential campaign has been driven by that one single matter that neither the candidates, their respective parties, the media, nor career politicians and DC insiders have wish to speak candidly about: race. Let me make oner more point: I think Colin Powell is a good man - as a person. His career was marked with indecision and mediocracy. What's more important? I think being a good man is more important. But his credentials as a leader don't earn much towards endorsing Barack - another person with very little real going for him other than he's a slick talking politician that has mass appeal.

Fongenie, to answer your question: Obama and Powell have very little going for them in that Powell never achieved anything - never actually did anything - in his career - except get promoted. Many say Powell is the reason we are in Iraq now as he talked the Pres out of finishing the job in the first Gulf war. Obama never was a "long time Senator". Obama has almost zero leadership experience and he does have Zero actual accomplishments. Both these guys have actually done very very little.

Colin Powell never achieved anything other than rank.He never won any military battles, never did much as Secretary of State - except resign. I retired from the US Army, as did Powell - no cushy desk job like Powell but Combat Arms all the way. Powell, formerlly known as "the Teflon Man" because his mistakes never stuck to him, was groomed for top office back in the 60's as part of the affirmative action program. The GOP ultimately got what they deserved with their "stand up" man Colin Powell.

I have a different view. Most blacks are voting for Obama because he is not like the blacks in leadership that we have been dealing with in the past. Our support for Obama is as much a rebuke of Jessie Jackson, and Al Sharpton, than just a vote for a black man. We know that he had to work 3 times as hard to be just considered even with the others, so he is by far the best out there, and is showing it. Al and Jessie were ok in their time but we want to progress in a different way now.

Gen. Powell thusfar has made only one campaign contribution. While he could have done so privately, he chose instead to do so in tandem with a press release: To John McCain for the maximum allowable amount...They are "longtime, good friends." He is also still known to be good friends with Gen. Schwarzcopf, who also endorsed McCain, as did Powell's own son. It is unlikely that any Obama endorsement is forthcoming...perhaps a trump card announcement of a McCain running mate is in the works.

At this point, in light of the many surprises, I will concede only that anything is possible.
I would still say 'unlikely' however when you consider the defense and foreign policy positions are more in line between Powell and McCain to the point that they have actually shaped policy together that McCain has actually brought not only to his campaign but to the Senate floor.
As for Obama..."Meeting a couple times" does not an endorsement make.
I would respect Powell's view in any case.

No one is perfect. Powell's may have good points to make even if he has flaws. He obviously has the experience to give a very informed and credible assessment of things. Barack can listen to him and decide for himself. The world is not as black and white as Tucker and Hillary would like to believe!

Colin Powell still has credibility because he was the only smart one who knew enough to jump ship shortly after the invasion. Powell was going to resign, but Bush pushed VERY hard for him to stay.
Powell thus agreed to stay on until the end of Bush's first term only. He would make a good VP running mate for Obama to go up against McCain/Bush.
But I'm not sure America is ready for Obama/Powell ticket.

Colin Powell served at the pleasure of the President and was used! Colin Powell is one of the most brilliant men in the country and an American hero. Barack Obama would do well to heed any advice Powell can give. As a Democrat, I would love to see Powell as an official advisor to Barack. Maybe even a cabinet member.

First the present Federal Governments tell people that everybody should conserve Gas and drive hydrids because of shortage that is why Gas is going up.
