When comparing both movie franchises in terms of entertainment value, the first three Alien movies are superior but when comparing the creatures, the Predator is far superior.

All it needs is a knife, cannon, net or something & Alien is toast.

Alien is only powerful if it breeds in you from the minute it hatches or if there's a whole group of them teaming up on one enemy or if it continually sprays acid from it's mouth at you which cause you to burn.

Aliens are physically superior to predators. A single Alien can be a match for a Predator easily. Regardless of weaponry. It depends on the circumstances of the encounter. In an open field with no cover...pretty obvious the Predator has the upper hand. In a CQB environment where the Alien can pop out of literally anywhere, the Xeno has an enormous advantage.

Comparison of damages received in the movies. Xenomorphs are shown having been; shot in point blank by a 9mm requiring an entire mag to full penetrate the cowl. At further distances the rounds simply bounced off (ALIENS) While in Predator 2, the rounds from Harrigan's pistol (or was it a sawed off shotgun?) quickly and easily pierced through the Predators flesh. Spike jumped an excess of 10 feet out of molten lead in Alien 3.

All of you have to keep in mind the preds in the schwarzenneger and glover movies are children. You have to be an extremely young predator to still be hunting humans for sport. The two preds in 1 & 2 must still be earning brownie points before taking on aliens.

They can survive the vacuum of space, and are thus immune to atmosphere. Predators need to adjust, or some simply have asthma (Predator 2). In other words they need their mask. Their native vision is in un-filtered IR...meaning they would not be able to see an Xenomorph without their mask, and would have to rely on other sense. Xenomorphs are shown pulling off feats of strength and agility matching or topping that of the Predators.

I think it's pretty fair to say that the Xenos are physically superior to Predators, but similar to humans what they lack in physical prowess, they make up for with intelligence and technology. Which is why AVP is such an interesting universe.
