@APinkPanzer yes America was a major factor in our victory in WW1 but it was mainly the collapse of the German homefront and a growing hatred for the Kaiser that cause Germany to lose. Also in WW2, you didnt lead the Western campaign (or its proper name Operation Overlord). Bernard Law Montgomery was a key leader of the allied assault. Really our main objective in the west was to occupy Germany and bomb the heck out of them so we could make life easier for the Russians on the eastern front.

@silver05M6 Nope, the Black Ship is like an event, you should see it in the event messages. It sails from West to East and is a European ship(Hence the design and ridiculous amount of guns). Be prepared to lose a lot of ships if you want to capture it. Personally, I prefer the Nanban trade ships you get if you convert to Christianity
@arkadian87 is that how you unlock ships n stuff in multiplayer then? do you have to kill it in a game and you get it? or is there a different way of unlocking stuffz??
@TheSwedishAssassin Well looking at this from a Asian-Australian perspective. There is no culture that has "more" culture than another. I mean how can you calculate culture in the first place? Despite what I said. There are often milestones and achievements in any nation or peoples history that contribute towards the advancement of humanity. Lets say Chinese invented things that Europeans have not grasped of, gunpowder, compass, paper etc. Fair enough.
@TheSwedishAssassin cont...But since its induction, the advancement halted and stagnated and so the torch has been passed to another culture to tinker with. We then move towards Europe with much more complex context than China and saw it flourish in a renaissance. My point is all cultures take the bones of a previous one and build it upon it. There is no "better" culture but merely ones that followed a different evolutionary path.
@Blobnaa Yep! I wasn't bashing other cultures, just in case you thought that. All I was arguing to my teacher was that being militarily advanced is a form of culture, something she disagreed with outright.
@TheSwedishAssassin There is no secret of European advances throughout the 15th to 21st centuries. The answer is ridiculously simple: there is no second continent on earth that has so much wars, conflicts, and cutthroat competitions. Roman vs everyone else, Christians vs Muslims, Catholic vs Protestants, Germany vs Russia, Britain vs France, the US vs Europe, etc. Every major advance in technologies is paid with tens of thousands of lives.
@mercedescl not true....grounbreaking discoveries were made in science, medicine and industry during peace....during just all spending from reasearch and development goes to millitary development so only millitary part of system is advancing.
@k91hugo Lol. Technologies like guns, ballistics, clocks, metallurgy, etc, are all results of astronomical military spending. Peace time discoveries to overtake military needs only happened after university education and consumer market economy became a widespread phenomenon.
@mercedescl fair point, but u must look at practical use of guns, ballistics and other inventions that were made during war..they have become useful only when these technologies were transfered for civil needs...i dont think that you need cannon or tank in your daily life...however these inventions were made during war i think that inventions they were transfered into would had been made also during peace..during war it goes faster because of all the money spent in millitary research
@k91hugo The problem of your argument is that inventions take time and information travel to make them proliferated. Of course, majority of inventions can trace their first appearance in peace time. But for them to be "common" and "everywhere", you need competition, information sharing (or spying), and capital investment. What's more common situations for those three to come together than to fight a large war?
@mercedescl well i think that competition, information sharing (patents) and capital investment are likely to be found in capitalism but u need strict rules and uncorruptable public servants and all can be developed during peace and trade.
@k91hugo You don't need strict rules or clean officials. The point is competition will reveal all weaknesses. And what's more apparent than to lose a war? I am not saying that peace time contribution won't make technologies advances. But because Europeans had spent much more time and money in fighting than the Chineses and Japaneses, their technologies became a lot better.
@mercedescl This is like how doctors explained even common flu could have killed Aboriginals of Americas. Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Asia allowed diseases to compete with each other for killing humans. With numerous intercontinental exchange of interesting diseases, old world people were a lot tougher than the New World people.
@mercedescl again fair point, but i think that japanesse fought between themselves for centuries and they didnt invented those weapons ot technologies. they were improoving just tactics not technology.
@k91hugo Because from Oda Nobunaga (first successful mass gun volley) to Tokugawa Ieyasu only took less than 30 years. For example, long bow stimulated the development of steel full body armor in the Hundred Years war, leading to the necessity for the transition from arrows to bullets; mass pike formation triumphed over shock heavy cavalry, leading to the development of field artillery and Tercio drill in Italian & Netherlands wars.
@mercedescl bullshit, total bullshit. To say that Europe has had more conflict and wars than other continents suggests that you know absolutely nothing of history outside of Europe.
@zonetoful Lol. Why don't we start counting, how many major conflict did Japan have between Tokugawa Shogunate and Meiji reformation? How many wars happen outside of Europe before WWI involving two or more rival nations with evolving weaponry and tactics? Take Turco–Persian rivalry for example, there were 9 wars in the spin of 3 centuries, Anglo-French alone had 15 wars in the same period. Need more evidences?
@MrGorfreeman The US got their ass kicked in Napoleon War (privateers and Impressment), war of 1812, early stage of WWI, and WWII in terms of tactics and technologies. Only through stringent competitions of wars, weaknesses of self, advantages of "better" technologies and tactics, and painful lessons of losses, knowledge and science could advance the fastest. Again, I am not saying peace time R& D ain't important, but war spending and war lessons made people learn the fastest.
@mercedescl You really under play the US, they did badly in the first two because they were hardly an established country as of then. WWI they refused to sit in trenches and were a major factor in the breaking of the German line, in WWII the Americans practically led the western campaign.
@APinkPanzer Lol. Panzer is a good name because the British taught a tank lesson that no German soldier would ever forget. No matter how good you were with technologies and weaponry, wars were ultimate tests that highlight advantages and disadvantages like no others. Technologies, ideas, innovations and knowledge always exist before wars, but, especially before modern communication technologies, wars were good stimulant to knockdown establishment, conservatism and traditions.
@TheSwedishAssassin I stumbled upon your discussion and was impressed with your point of view. I agree with you that military is also a form of culture. In a way it's just human's attempt to survive as a tribe/race/nation. There's no use denying it but we'd do well to understand our warring nature.
And to get back on topic the Black Ship IS AWESOME! Today's the first time I fought it and I loved how it decimated my fleet lol! Damn I miss my Venetian Heavy Infantry.
@DJonX7 No, he ordered it to be contructed using European ship building techniques. If your curious, It was named the 'Date Maru' or 'San Juan Bautista.'
@LogicalMan6 You can build nanban trade ships but not this one, they are fairly similar but the black ship has twice as many cannons and more men (and obviously more upkeep).
@LogicalMan6 Yep the european traders own it. You usually get a popup as warning, the ship roams across the whole campaign map's coast (having some naval trade routes helps A LOT with spotting it).
If you don't get any popups, it likely means another faction has already captured it(and when they do they don't repair it for some reason, easy prey :P).
People say it appears around 1550-55, near shimazu's starting place.
In my experience it's easier to capture by auto-resolving.
I converted to Christianity to get this Portuguese ships. All i needed was one to dominate the ocean. It was so good in fact that i detached it from my navy and started using it a loan in battles
I'd built up a decent early game navy, about half the max size and was escorting some trade ships when suddenly it appears out of nowhere and thought 'hey why not lets go for it!' charge forward all confident like,
'Ha, what is one ship going to do against ALL mine' so I go to board it.... Every single ship gets blasted into oblivion before they even get the hooks up - one side didn't even have any screw left....
I love how you just went up to it's broadside so that you could be shredded to threads with cannons. Also the enemy ship stands in one spot. This spells death for a ship with cannons because to aim them you have to turn the ship. The archers on other vessels can just aim wherever from every side.
at the start of my chosokabe campaign i got the black ship notice. a couple of turns later i saw it by my coast. i saw like yeah i'm gonna get a western ship, so i sent 3 heavy bunes and 2 mediums bunes to sort it out... bad idea :/
@cherum25 I would like to see a reply of that, because that must be on easy and the Black ship already damaged by other clans, simple math count against it, you can have a max of 10 ships per fleet so you had 2 fleets, trade ships have no weapons to speak of, are slow and have 20 crew, the black ship has 300 marines, so you claim that you managed to capture it without loosing more than 3 ships. As I said, I would like to see that.
I would have thought tailing the ship from behind and then hopfully boarding would work. assuming ur samurai dont get get shot to pits before hand. :/
for me to capture this ship i had to sacrifice a few units just so one of my crews could actually BOARD the dam thing without getting raped by the cannons.
Funny thing, this fleet from aa clan I was not allied or at war with attacks the black ship and I have a chance too take part. But even with our combined fleet the outcome doesn't look good, so I stay out of it.
He someoe captures it, loosing almost all of his men, then I take it easily.
i find using sengouku bunes is the only way to beat it, by distracting it with bomb kobayas you can board it quite easily about 4-5 times which should be enough to capture it;
In real life, battles between European seaborne forces and Oriental navies didnt always end in favor of Westerners. In 1643, a fleet of three VOC ships (Ducth East Indian company) fought a fleet of several Cochinchina galleys offshore port Eo (in Southern Vietnam). The command ship was blown up. Another ship rammed into a cliff in panic. Only the smallest and lightest ship could flee.
If I ever manage to touch this ship and slaughter all the crew members in it i would make a badass fleet of nanban trade ships and the black ship!! also i never seen the red seal ship is it armed with cannons coz on the picture it looks like its armed with cannons
navy battles in this game is incredibly bullshit. I spent 30 minutes out-maneuvering this ship and finally being able to board it and have it surrender.
Did I get the ship? No of course I didn't. Only a ton of lost ships and a giant fuck you from the game devs.
Hands down, the Western nations were superior to others..

i captured the black ship with 20 trading ships lol.
cherum25 4 months ago 74
@cherum25 I would like to see a reply of that, because that must be on easy and the Black ship already damaged by other clans, simple math count against it, you can have a max of 10 ships per fleet so you had 2 fleets, trade ships have no weapons to speak of, are slow and have 20 crew, the black ship has 300 marines, so you claim that you managed to capture it without loosing more than 3 ships. As I said, I would like to see that.
SneakingViper 3 months ago
@cherum25 I can play on easy too.

@cherum25 Nanban trade ships ?
mmzabela 2 months ago
I would have thought tailing the ship from behind and then hopfully boarding would work. assuming ur samurai dont get get shot to pits before hand. :/

Funny thing, this fleet from aa clan I was not allied or at war with attacks the black ship and I have a chance too take part. But even with our combined fleet the outcome doesn't look good, so I stay out of it.
He someoe captures it, loosing almost all of his men, then I take it easily.
It is now the flagship of my fleet.

Why da hell it gotta be the black ship!
MrVictorVector 5 months ago
Just use a ton of siege tower bunes, surround and lock the ship in place, and avoid the broadside of the ship
ShindyK2 5 months ago
i find using sengouku bunes is the only way to beat it, by distracting it with bomb kobayas you can board it quite easily about 4-5 times which should be enough to capture it;
jb10626 5 months ago
Destroing or capturing it on hard mode is only possible with Namban trading ships or with very much luck.

Man... If only i was there and i have my RPG it would be so tempting >.<

Are there seaborne assault during this period? Cause that would be awesome.

If I ever manage to touch this ship and slaughter all the crew members in it i would make a badass fleet of nanban trade ships and the black ship!! also i never seen the red seal ship is it armed with cannons coz on the picture it looks like its armed with cannons

or does the fleets have no commander?
pleas help
deltaflow00000 8 months ago
i love that it floats amongst the wreckage of the other ships to avoid being boarded
TheTrueNinjaPretzel 8 months ago
Those ships in actual Japanese history were only black because of the poweder used for the cannons when they were fired.
If one of the clans had taken in in real life they probably would have been the most powerful group in the country right then and there.

navy battles in this game is incredibly bullshit. I spent 30 minutes out-maneuvering this ship and finally being able to board it and have it surrender.
Did I get the ship? No of course I didn't. Only a ton of lost ships and a giant fuck you from the game devs.
