i used to love singing harmony to this amazing song with jen starr. i remember one night being in the dark singing this with her...something about a flashlight being the only light in the room. it was so incredibly eerie. wow, nearly 20 years ago...
I actually own this album, it's really crazy almost Sonic Youthish, They have pictures of the equipment, it a reel to reel recorder and a kids radio shaped like a trumpet,Quality isn't great but Beck is still awesome.
It's cool how the hook of this song manages to sound funny on one hand, and then on the other end of it it's simultaneously somber and hopeless. The line repeated three times, She'll do anything.. The third time with the harmony added in, almost making it seem happy the third time. Like you can count on her, everytime, as if by magic.. Ya know? And then just that emphasis.. like it's amusing and depressing at once.
This album followed by Mellow Gold are songs that I like to call Beckwoods albums. All the songs seem like they were written for a backwoods summer camp and I love it.
This is my favorite song off One Foot In The Grave. It's so good! And I used to not even care about Beck's old stuff, but lately I've gotten into it more. His old stuff is so genuine and more emotional I think. Beck is the coolest guy to walk the earth.
My goodness how i love Beck. Every album every song. He is such a wonderful musician. I love how he changes his style every album. He totally influences my music.
A lot of the tunnings are C# and D on this album. I think this song is C#, the strings are so loose they just rattle off the neck. Being a guy with no high end it's easy to sing drunken blues in that key also.
every time you burn one and she yells, and everytime you crack a cold one after work on friday to put the weeks past you and she moans ....thats what this song is about.
Goddammit. I can't get this song out of my head. It's always there. At least for the last 6 days. My girlfriend is getting quiet worried, because she's unsure if I might really mean her when I sing it along.
..."and the cigarettes were smoking by themselves" I love this man. Everything he touches is magic. There's no stylistic curve that he can't master,he can weave multiple genres and eras into his own original sonic groove, and his lyrics are always surreal, a brilliant song-writing machine par excellence. He also has one of the better musician websites out there. Did I say I loved him?
Best shit ever man. Did you know that Johnny cash covered a song off this album? Check it out, just goes to show 66 views, seems like no one knows what the fuck is going on anymore.
Are you kidding me dude, this is a friggin' MASTERPIECE. Understated, stark and moody GENIUS. I want this release so badly, I guess it was put out by Calvin(Beat Happening)on K Records, at the same time he recorded Mellow Gold. I have to special order it. Thanks for uploading this, the Beck fans will love it dearly.

This is an album for chilling and reflecting.
The songs are very metaphoric and inquisitive, moreso than on his other albums like Odelay (and I love Odelay).
