  • Gotta love her wearing pants and a turtleneck to the Academy Awards.

  • @direfranchement Yep. She could have worn old jeans and a beaten up tee-shirt and no one would have dared suggest she not. And the ovation would have been no less.

  • @direfranchement You'll find many woman, especially in show business, will wear turtlenecks or scarves around their necks as they get older. It covers up their necks which tend to show their age more than any other facial feature that make up and hair dye can cover up. I respect Katharine for allowing herself to naturally age, unlike many older stars today who look like caricature's of their former selves after many unflattering plastic surgery's...

  • David Niven could not have been more true in his words about Ms. Katharine Hepburn - "THIS is a star."

  • she seems really nervous here.

  • KH - the Best.

  • She's over 70 years old and still looks absolutely amazing! DANG!

  • Her Shake-n-bakeness

  • I believe she was suffering from Parkinson's Disease

  • @gregshell11 Many thought that but she did not. She had what is called "Essential Tremor."

  • @gregshell11 She had an essential tremor.

  • I love her outfit :)

  • Best Actress of all time!

  • That was worth the 41 year wait. The most dramatic Oscar presentation I've ever seen. What a talent.

Look at how absolutely stark the set was. How times have changed.

  • Not being rude but was she sick here? She does not look very stable.

  • @Cbhan2108 She always sounded like that..HUH?

  • Why was her voice always shaking?

  • actually i watched a larry king interview with here niece and she said she hated these things becouse she was shy. hard to belive she played such strong roles she was the best.

  • This woman was sexually deprived. You can tell by her skin. Elizabeth Taylor, on the other hand, was very well "nourished" in that department. She couldn't hide the radiance even if she tried. All that confidence and grand-dame-demeanor cannot fool me.

  • I thought Hepburn was against the academy altogether?

  • @captainjjb84 No she never said anything like that. She just hated public events (and didn't want to go to the ceremony and lose), the only reason she agreed to present this award was because Weingarten asked her to and he was terminally ill.

  • Best actress of all time.

  • what year is this? Late 70-something, I guess.

  • April 2, 1974

  • April 2, 1974. She was 66 years old.

  • The best part of this whole clip is her outfit. God I love how she broke stereotypes constantly :), rest in peace <3

  • How old is she here?!She looks wonderful!

I love her!One of my favorite actresses!!

  • I love David Niven

  • Katharine Hepburn - We will never encounter the likes of her again. Talk about a diva!!!! Four Oscars over a span of fifty years! What an actress and presence she was!!!!!!

  • What a dame!!

  • A True Lady.

  • The definition of the classy diva. A legend.

  • how can you watch this and not love her?

  • WHEREVER KATH HAVE PASSED OVER THE YEARS IT'S A NICE "WALK OF FAME".

I THINK THIS PATH TO NOTORIETY SHOULD ALSO RIGHTLY APPLY TO THE MANY

TINY~SHOPS OR BOUTICS ALONG THE HOLLYWOODIAN ROAD, TO THE CARS PASSING BY AT THE MOMENT AND TO THE TREES, IN BLOOM OR DEAD. IN ONE OF THOSE TREES, ON A MYRIFICAL BRANCH I STAY AS CIORIC BRINGING MY TRIBUTE TO THIS NEW PASSION OF MINE, TOGETHER WITH PARAMOUNT PICTURES; I SALUTE LATELY THIS LEGEND, THIS ACTRESS, NAMED HEPBURNED... MILLE GRAZZIE...!!! VLAD

  • legend who never die.

  • Now listen carefully folks... THAT is a true BOSTON accent.

  • @Shubael1809 More Connecticut, where she lived/grew up.

  • this was the year of the streaker wasn't it?

  • @DaBigChalk1991 Yup!!!

  • she reminds me of david bowie doin his cracked actor lady thing...

  • They don't make actors or even human beings like Katherine Hepburn anymore!!!!!

  • I wish I could have been there to applaud her :')

  • 4 wins, 12 nominations but just 1 appearance?

  • @vadimzdonutube In an interview during 1979, she said she was too shy to go to the Academy Awards.

  • lol, kevin spacey

  • Quite possibly the chic-est and most stylish person, man or woman, to ever grace the oscars.....................years before Yohji Yammamoto, Rick Owens or Hedi Slimane here is an extraordinarily modern woman...........fabulous!

  • @OldHollywoodMovies

yes....I laughed at that........ interview with Barbara Walters!

  • Untouchable. One of the very few people in history that can actually be called "legends".

  • She even wore trousers to the Oscars! Love it!

  • I just watched a man walking on stage

  • REALMENTE.......ESTA ES UNA ESTRELLA !!!

  • I love her..and I really like her Valentino gown... would it kill her to put on a damn dress once in a while..it just burns me up..she's a legend and a superb actress and she thinks she's too "down to earth" to look like a lady..her one fault

  • @cwecub I think she looks more like a lady than many actresses today in Hollywood. She carries herself with more grace than they could dream of. It's sad that you think her not wearing a dress is a fault. You find fault where there isn't any.

  • Legendary. <3

  • Last of the best! They don't make movie stars anymore! Not like the Great Kate anyway.

  • Great actress, but what's with the outfit? Spiff it up for the presentation.

  • @cosg9531 girl could wear a paper bag and still be a GODDESS AMONG MORTALS haters gonna hate

  • @cosg9531 I agree with you. She was trying to make a point {i think}. But she should have made a one time effort for this important event.

  • @defundthewar Watch her in The Glass Menagerie or Alice Adams if you want to see her play an impoverished person. Watch her in The Lion in Winter. You forget that she is KH and just think of her as her character...albeit a queen...but not Waspish. In Sylvia Scarlett..made in the 30s...she plays a teenage boy. In Keeper of the Flame and The Sea of Grass..she plays tainted/insecure women. It's not til the end that she is vindicated in those. In Dragon Seed she is a Japanese woman, very convincing.

  • I'll catch some flack for saying it, but although she was a gorgeous, striking woman with great style, was she really a great actress if she was always playing herself... a WASPish, upper-class, mannered lady with strong convictions? Could she ever effectively play an ethnic role? A foreigner? Someone impoverished? Someone cowardly? Someone insecure? Someone with no moral compass? Again, I'll get scolded, but if you're always playing variations of yourself, are you really acting?

  • @defundthewar Its a good question. I guess the only straight answer is that we'll never know, the studios were pretty bad about typecasting. But I guess my thinking is that its the amazing emotion that she projects which makes her great. Part of being an actor is being able to hold the audience in your hand and make them cry, make them laugh, make them feel along with you. She did that. But I would've liked to see what she would have done with the kind of role you described.

  • She is Fantastic, Exceptional, Amazing and Magnificent. She is the Queen. She is quite simply the BEST !

    KATHARINE HEPBURN

  • Half the Hollywood actors of the time were British... and the other half spoke as if they were British. Strange, huh?

  • @ninmat hmm well it wasn't like they wanted to...back then americans sounded much more british than they do now...at least the upper middle and upper classes did

  • I loved my dear Kate!

  • she wore a pant suit. Nice.

  • What a woman. She was an icon and still is an icon. Hollywood today could not put a pimple on her butt. She would be ashamed to be part of the Hollywood we see today.

  • She was the best!

  • why didn't katherine hepburn accept her oscars

  • @konnen95 she accepted them, but she didn't attend the ceremonies, when she was nominated because she despised the academy awards! can't blame her. she was an eccentric person person, as all the original talents, i guess.

  • @konnen95 she accepted them, but she didn't attended the ceremonies when she was nomitated. she despised the academy awards and she was superstitious. can't blame her. she was an eccentric person, as all the original talented and gifted people, i guess.

  • She looked BEAUTIFUL!

  • I once owned a cafe in New Zealand in 1988 she walked in and ordered a cafe latte then settled down with a copy of vogue no one recognized her and walked by I was mesmerized by her charm

  • she's is the STAR!!! :D .. R.I.P. Miss Katharine Hepburn

  • Not many presenters recieve standing ovations

  • God I love her !

  • Larence Weingarten died less than a year later from leukemia. He was

married to Irving Thalberg's sister Sylvia.

  • She's 67 in this clip. Goodness she aged amazingly! So flawless.

Kate will always be the queen of my heart <3

  • Why she speaks so strangely? Did she already suffered in 1974? Was she survived a stroke? #OMG

  • @1978TVP She had a hereditary shake.

  • lol, it looks like the guy got really tired waiting until she finished her speech.

  • KH is a goddess even if she loves 2 bcum tom boy 4 the whole 96 years of her artistic life xD n i dont know if is just me but one of her young photos look exactly like lauren bacall haha xD

  • Marry a beutiful Latino lady rockmycity.info

  • Katharine Hepburn- One of my very top fav actresses! By the way I'm not a dress/skirt

type either. Not of that generation & was raised on the classics. The actors & actresses & movies of that generation have my absolute love & respect. Adore many of Ms Hepburn's movies. My top fav are The Little Minister, Holiday & Under current. When she's acting just look into those shimmering eyes & she has you by the heart. God Bless & Shalom.

  • In one word...a Goddess!

  • Who the hell is Lawrence Weingarten?

  • Try Naughty women and success your life mworld5.info

  • i love how she commands attention, she has the audience in the palm of her hand! brilliant!

  • where's the streaker??

  • pants were her trademark... no class in wearing them to this event, esp then... now anything goes ....

  • he most One Beautiful masters of the screen. I just loved her in Stage Door. She looked amazing for her age in this video.

  • Magnifique Katharine Hepburn!!

  • un referente

  • how can a beautiful woman wear such awful clothes?

  • she was so awful. one note one character actor.

and very heavy handed, in the one thing she could do.

howard hughes, the most powerful and prominent supporter of the white-supremacist movement was her boyfriend.

of course, hollywood loved her for that. the reason she kept getting cast, despite the fact that the people hated her.

  • @MsThunderroad

That was the first time she was @ the Oscars? I can so tell, and she was beautiful, her speech was so natural and generous. Every producer should want to hear that!

  • @MsThunderroad You're a moron.

  • @MsThunderroad She got cast because she was brilliant, moron.

Not to mention that the love of her life was Spencer Tracy and she had never anything to do with politics.

She was and still is one of the most genius actresses of all times and your un-wisely chosen words only prove you have no idea what you are talking about.

It may be your personal opinion, but please keep those hateful words to yourself.

  • I think Katharine Hepburn is the only actress in Hollywood history who, in presenting an award, leaves one with the impression that she is the recipient. BRAVO KATE!

  • why is she dressed like bruce lee?

  • @bettydaw1970 I think she never wore dresses. Dont think she ever married either.

  • @llaroo87

Yes she did marry one time. His name was Ludlow Ogden Smith.

  • @bettydaw1970 come'on, let's not criticise how people dress, or what they look like - she chose to dress in that way, personally I think it's nice - she was not a skirt / dress type person but if you met someone dressed like that would you ask them that same question?

  • what year was this?

  • what does she mean by "unselfish"?

  • @aclerki She never accepted in-person the Oscars she won. By presenting the award to the producer, she showed that she was being unselfish by finally attending a ceremony.

  • @aclerki People accused her of being selfish because she was a recluse. I don't think she ever actually accepted the four Best Actress Oscars that she received. She holds the record for most Best Actress Oscars. Considering the Academy's failure to give Meryl Streep in nearly two decades, she will likely hold that honor forever. If anyone deserves to hold the record forever, it is she.

  • I absolutley adore her. One of the best and most beautiful actresses of her time.

  • perfect human being is perfect

  • does she have parkinsons or something

  • @boogiebuddy01 She did not have Parkinsons. She said that it was the same thing her Aunt had. It was a "just is" to her, as it was to some of the women in her family.

  • She is in a class of her own... back then they ACTED, not realy on special effects!

  • @jwdundon That's an unfair thing to say. There are a lot of great actors in this generation, sure, we have a lot of crap and fun going around, but there are still good movies being made.

  • I have never been so grateful for YouTube as I have at this moment after having an opportunity to experience the short presence of these remarkable human beings... Katherine, we thank you for all your lovelies and the aspect of yourself that you shared with the world...

  • I don't care what anybody says, I know for a fact that no woman in hollywood now or ever will have any amount of the amazing class Katharine had. I love her :)

  • Does She remind you of Captain Catherine Janeway?

  • This massage from naughty women ** mworld5.info **

  • Katherine hepburn is greatest actress that lived.period.

  • If you really want to marry an Latino women come to us rockmycity.info

  • katherine hepburn is fucken weird

  • @brickman73 LMAO!!

  • i want to be just like her when i grow up, but i know that's impossible.

  • freakyguru. Every world you said is the total truth. I agree 100%.

  • TÔI THÍCH KATHARINE HEPBURN Ở THÁI ĐỘ KỲ QUẶC, TÍNH TÌNH THẲNG THẮN CỦA BÀ MÀ HẦU NHƯ KHÔNG MỘT DIỄN VIÊN HOLLYWOOD THỜI ĐÓ NÀO CÓ ĐƯỢC. BÀ RẤT GIỎI VÀ XỨNG ĐÁNG ĐƯỢC TÔN VINH.

  • To the person who posted wondering if Miss Hepburn was drunk, if you knew much about what your are trying to talk about here your would know that she had Parkinson's disease, and in spite of this condition she marched on with courage and grit to continue a career that was peerless. Of course I doubt that you know what "peerless" means-your comment tells me you would never "get it" anyway.

  • What a powerful speechmaker

    Very inspiring

  • Katharine Hepburn was a brilliant actress and so beautiful!!!

  • I too disagree with CT2507, HOWEVER...unfortunately I do feel that his ( or her ) narrowmindedness is the way the world is headed. Think about it...whenever you see the academy awards ( or the emmy's or ANY awards show for that matter ) you see females not only spilling out with "femininity" but they dress like trashy whopres. nothing left to the imagination. if Kate were in her heyday now, things would shore 'nuff be different!

  • @chetgeyer, she was not drunk. If you are meaning that shaking in her voice, that was because she was suffering from

  • Katherine Janeway and Hepburn look alot alike.

  • why in the world is this her only appearance

  • Good gosh, was she drunk?!

  • @chetgeyer No. She was over 70 at the thime of this show, and she already had developed the shakiness in her voice and head by then.

  • @chetgeyer moron, she was in the early stages of parkinsons disease

  • @chetgeyer She was not!! After she had her stroke it was harder for her to speak

  • @chetgeyer are you stupid? She had a tremor most of late life. She never went to the oscars, even when she was nominated. She's not drunk. She's human.

  • @markshark1081 perhaps the poster isn't that familiar with Ms.Hepburn. Other than knowing her name, I doubt most young folks know anything about her. :)

  • @chetgeyer No, she was old.

    Don't be disrespectful.

  • @chetgeyer " The fool, too, if he can just keep quiet, will be considered a wise man."

  • @chetgeyer If you had remained silent, you would have remained a philosopher.

  • why would she never go to the Oscars???

  • @dmoreno168 Because, as she said in her interview with Morley Safer in 1979, she was afraid people would see her as a bore. You can tell the way she handles herself that she isn't comfortable being in the spotlight in front of that many people unless it is making a movie or an interview. She is not an attention whore like today's celebrities. Notice she is humble unlike ANY celeb today? She would take a crap on Paris Hilton's head! LOL

  • @dmoreno168 I never knew she never went till right this minute

  • NO ONE in the audience knew that Katharine was going to be there..She even wore PANTS!!!! And after it was over...she went to the producer of the show and ask him...Do you need me for anything else...He said NO....and off she went...Never to show up to another Oscar Show...IT WOULD OF been nice if she was there for On Golden Pond....She would of gotten a Major Standing Ovation of the likes of Charlie Chaplin's 15 minute....I truly believe that.

  • Shame on you sycophants who praise this evil mummer Katharine Hepburn! This degenerate woman promoted infanticide, transvestism and homosexuality. Nothing good comes from elitism.

  • @SufferInJuly She wasn't gay. Transvestite maybe. But not gay.

  • @aquagrl63 She wasn't a transvestite. Katharine Hepburn was one of the first public ladies to defy the required female attire. She wore pants, that's all.

  • @SufferInJuly Who the hell made you God? Why don't you just quote the scriptures on homosexuality, transvestism and infantcide. People like you are more evil over your religious conviction than the so-called sinner you complain of. I take it you would probably hug the abortion doctor killer, spit on a gay person, and smack a transvestite. So gald SufferinJuly that you are perfect, yet you violate many of Christ's direct order simply by passing judgement on people as you do! Go read a bible

  • When I grow up (I'm currently 54), I want to be just like her. I'm doing very well now.

  • So what was the disease she had? Still great actress, i mean 4 oscars wow!

  • She is very beautiful. Wasn't she the idea for the look of the comic book look of Elektra?

  • @252925j it wasnt that simple. Spenc and his wife werent close long before Kate came along. Spenc was Catholic and would NEVER get divoriced PERIOD. Mrs Tracy wasnt Catholic but chose NOT to flie. Spence always held high respect for his wife just wasnt IN LOVEEEEEE any more. They must have reached an agreement because as the non Catholic Mrs Tracy could have gotten a divorce. Life happens and all three did the best they could.

  • Nice pantsuit!

  • i love the way she talks

  • I think he came out too soon by accident.

  • 1973

  • Glory to God in the highest.

  • so she actually knew howard hughes huh?

  • @lelsieldeleon37 no no relation

  • @lelsieldeleon37 No they're not related

  • What year was this?

Why didn't she ever attend this ceremonies before?

  • @MTVMANN i want to know too!!!!!!!!!!!

  • never liked her and never will. she is a masculine female. females should not compete with men for control. they should just be females. just as men should not compete with women for their feminine qualities.

  • @CT2507 I completely disagree with your assessment of Ms. Hepburn, still one of the most acclaimed actresses. She has won more Leading Actress Oscars than any other woman. Until recently, she was the most nominated actress in history. Have you seen Morning Glory, Long Days Journey into Night; The African Queen; On Golden Pond, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner; Suddenly Last Summer; or The Lion in Windter?

Strong woman need not be masculine. She was a leader, not a man. Leaders need not be men.

  • @neworleansguy10

thank you so much for your comment!! I m very glad that the rest of the world didn't forget her!! Franckly, when she's died, i was strongly upset that nobody marks her!!

  • @lulanne I agree. I may be a lot younger than most of her fans ( 40? ) but I adore her. I NEVER go to movies or watch awards shows anymore because it just isn't the same. If I had to put it into words I would have to say that this new modern society SUCKS! Sorry to offend anyone but it's just the way I feel. Luckily I have movies to show me how elegant life USED to be when people actually cared.

  • @neworleansguy10 Oh and don't forget Philadelphia Story!!!

  • @neworleansguy10 I have not read the comment you are responding too, but without reading it, I totally agree with you.

  • @neworleansguy10 A very brilliant comeback !

  • @neworleansguy10 not only the most Lead Actress Oscars, she has the most acting Oscars than anyone, male or female. While several people have two (either two leads or one lead and one supporting or two supporting), all four of hers were for lead. The next one in line is Jack Nicholson, but he has two lead (ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, AS GOOD AS IT GETS) and one supporting (TERMS OF ENDEARMENT). It is doubtful anyone will ever get 4 lead again (it's hard to get even two).

  • @musicaltheatergeek79 Oscars don't mean all that much when it comes to artistry and skill -- it's Hollywood biz. She was the greatest, with or without her trophies.

  • @neworleansguy10 Amen!

  • @mlT2507 Are you serious Please this is the 21st century why shoudn't females compete with men? Your commment is crap. Masculinity has nothing to do with it. Miss Hepburn is what she is.

  • @CT2507 She just felt comfortable in her slacks and she was a woman that women felt comfortable with not competing with the latest pleastic surgeon's cut!

  • @CT2507 Dumbest thing I ever read. You dislike her because shes her own person and doesnt follow what alot of stupid girls do? Right, yeah, total reason to hate her.

  • @CT2507 You are a narrow-minded biggot. Read and enrich your mind about gender diversity

  • @CT2507

    uumm fuck you
