  • It hurts Peter at the end when Assumpta says "You'll all know what I'm going to do." He's just revealed poignantly to her that she's special to him, but her reply implies that she lumps him in with everyone else. That had to tear at his heart. I can't recall the timeline this fits into, but it wouldn't surprise me if this encounter and the uncertainty is brought out didn't influence Peter to have 2nd thoughts about his feelings and caused him to end up taking the retreat recommended by Fr. Mac.

  • Peter has figured out what an important part of his life Assumpta has become and how empty it would be if she left. Unfortunately, later she doesn't follow through; she tells only Niamh when she does decide to go to London (later scene). Interesting that Peter leaves Quigley's accounts books on the bar, maybe hoping secretly that the revenue guys will take a look.

  • It bothered me, too, that she said "I had no idea" at the lake, until I realized that those words had to be connected with her next sentence: "Do you think I'd have got married if I knew how you felt?" She was seeing everything from her own POV and really didn't totally understand or grasp Peter's feelings until the walk at the lake.

  • How, oh how can Assumpta say "I had no idea" by the lake when Peter tells her here in PLAIN ENGLISH with such gut wrenching emotion!!?? Assumpta, dear, pay attention!! Get a clue!!!! Another why, why, why scene for me. And yet still I LOVE it!

  • "...about leaving BallyK" So adorably spoken. Oh, poor puppy!

  • Seems like the only logical conclusion to that sentence is 'I just thought that we were ... friends' . And they are friends. His concern is somewhat understandable since it seems everyone knows except him. He's a very sensitive man.

  • Ah, the scene that puzzles me the most. Can anyone shed some light on what he means when he says, "I just thought that when we..."?

  • I think he says, "I just thought we were...."

  • I think if you listen carefully, Peter says, "I just thought that were we"; almost like he got his words tangled up because he was so nervous and choked up. He meant "we were" but the words came out in reverse order.

  • Yep, Peter (well, ST) goes thru so many emotions in that short minute. One of my favorite scenes between them. Once again, ST just tears up on cue. Love 'im.

  • I love love love this scene. I just wish Assumpta would of gave him a big hug and reassured him she wasn't leaving. Father Peter is just so precious!
