So powerfull. The ONLY... "Remixed" version I would approve of. This is simply amazing. Thanks alot for this, Dummeh. Subscribed just because of this masterpiece.
AHAHAHA. I laughed at just how interestingly close the begging of this reminded me of Flight of the valkyrie by Richard Wagner somehow..... still impressive though.
wow, i've been listening to your videos and I just saw from the conversation above that this is not a real recording! I thought you recorded this from something!
Absolutely one of the best renditions of Wing Fortress I have ever heard I think. I have to say it really feels like what the track was inteded to be, can't wait to hear future remixes as good as this. You really have a knack for picking good instrumentation for these things.
@dummeh of course i would give you credit, id be a fool not to! if you want any plot details i will gladly tell you as you are in the credits. lets just say its not your average fanfic. its a lot more robotnik based
I always thought the music from this zone resembled WW2 era film scores, notably all the newsreels they used to make. If I had to compare it to an actual film score, I'd say it has more of a Rocketeer feel than a Star Wars feel (as someone else stated.)
Anywho, I'm fairly certain - given the nature of the level - that it was originally intended to resembled 40's era fanfare for newsreels, like I said. Either way, awesome work!
you used WIVI from the brass section? I've listened to numerous pieces that used WIVI and they all have the same Metalic buzzy sound. I think the VSL brass patches sound more natural.
Indeed, WIVI used for the brass. I had tried VSL but it was futile (staccatos articulations just sound awfully unnatural). I'm not completely happy with how it sounds still but I think it's as best as I'll get it without recording live (at least, with current samples).
@dummeh This is the best possible brass? Don't get me wrong. this is an excellent rendition. Especially, considering the source material.(Wing fortress zone sounds like the worst possible FM bleeps and blips on the sega at least to me). However, from what you list, it seems like you have the top of the line VSTs, yet even then theres a synthiness to the music that's inescapable. It's very discouraging to someone like me, who is scrimping and saving to amass a library of VSTs similar to yours.
Brass can be really hard to get sounding realistic, even with the best libraries. It's all down to what you're trying to compose. Certain things work better with samples. Other things will always sound a bit synthetic with VSTs. Hopefully 2011 should see some better brass libraries now Kontakt is 64 bit and the scripting language has evolved.
@dummeh You should look at EWQL Brass library, and Edirol has a great Brass Ensemble patch in their Orchestral VST kit too. EWQL has the best individual brass sections I have found yet. You can here them in my renditions of the Sonic themes (including this one), on my channel.
The one who disliked it was probably Sonic, he must have hated doing this zone. I don't fancy swinging on bars and jumping across platforms in the sky either.
Absolutely fantastic! I have always wanted to hear an orchestrated version of Wing Fortress. Thank you so much for this wonderful remake of such a memorable piece.
@MarineMechX2 That'd be alot of investing; all of those plugins cost hundreds and thousands of dollars. God knows how much money dummeh poured into those bastard's companies just to bring us this epic piece of music.
Short answer: If you're anything like me and live with an income and family who cant/wont pay 15 hundred bucks for some digital trumpets, you aren't getting "accurate plugins".
It's about £4000/$6000 worth of software used to make this piece (though only bits and bobs used from the software make up the song).
The samples are expensive, but they're aimed at professionals who make money from composing. A recent contract I worked on paid ~£2000 for 20 seconds of music so a couple of these and you have your costs covered.
It's only been the past few months I've actually made money from my composing. All my libraries were bought from scrimping and saving.
