@winchesterntk1 alot of us do, my friend used to have a hamsters. Personally i think hamsters are ugly, no offense, and my friend's used to bite people and didn't like to be played with. i got pet rats and they are the friendliest pets i've had, i've never had one that bit or hurt someone and they love to be played with. the only other animal that can compete against them are rabbits.

a Hamster learning this? i find it hard to believe, if you manage to do it you should post a video.

@792112509 Rats will respond to verbal commands just like a dog. To introduce them into the training is simple like when teaching a dog to sit or shake. Simply say the command when having them do the trick and give them the treat if they do so. Soon, they will do the trick just on the verbal command, but will expect some reward after :)

@792112509 my ats do, when your teaching them the trick say the word. for example when i taught my rats to spin i would say spin while making them turn.

in this one, im currently teaching my rats 'up' so they stand up, i'll teach them 'walk' once they get the hang of standing up :)

Womble is a he. And they would both be agouti roan. That means that at birth they were brown and white, but as time passed the brown faded away to turn into grey and finally white. I also have a rat named Whiskey who is a black roan, so he was black and white at birth, but now he is nearly all white. :)

Well, if you've only had her for a few weeks she probably doesn't trust you enough to do the tricks. And yes, she's probably already used to you, but two weeks doesn't seem enough time to build up a good enough relationship to do tricks. I would recommend just keeping at it and building up your relationship with her. Also, get her a friend! She won't love you less for it, in fact she'll probably love you more!

She won't do tricks unless you teach her, and two weeks is far too soon to start teaching her tricks. Get her used to you first and then when she's happy and settled then start to think about training.#

Shhharted, I don't think it matters what kind of treat as long as it's something tasty (I use pumpkin seeds as a treat for my rat, she goes nuts for them) Do you think if you give the rat an auditory signal when you first start doing this that eventually you can stop giving them a treat and just give the auditory signal to get them to do the desired trick?

you should be able to, i never bothered with tricks until i thought hey lets try this. i would pu tthe treat over the flat house i wanted him to jump on and say up. doing it again and again, i now have to point at it and say up and he'll jump up there.
