My mom used to work at a restraint and the cookers cooked live lobster's and they put theem in the scorching boiling water and as the put them in their the lobster's screamed so loud, it sounded like a kettle full of steam it was a horrifying sound. Not to mension as they boiled them they tried to climb out so their claws were like graping the sides of the pot, and they scratch in the pot wich was really gross because they were just scratching the metal pot. It was pretty redonculous

Is it possible to cook a lobster when it's already dead? I never try lobster before, but I'm not capable enough to throw it alive in the boiled water. I love meat but when it doesn't move when I'm frying or boiling it.
It is kind of messed up pulling it apart alive. The best way personally to me is to smash its head so its instant and the lobster doesn't tense up when it hits the boiling water.

No way would I EVER take the lobster apart. Just throw the whole lobster into boiling water. Boil for 8 min + add 1 min for every lb of meat. So (2) 1.5lb lobsters would take 11 mins. This includes the time for the water to come back to a boil.

@chapmasi As a chef in training I can back this up. Its best to throw it in live.Unlike humans, lobsters have a very small nervous system, so they won't feel much. And breaking it apart causes water to get into the shell, not only getting rid of all the good juice and flavor in the meat, but also getting water in the shell and making eating it an even bigger mess. It's best to take a live lobster and simply boil it whole in hot water without seasoning.

You wanna let the lobster boil in the water 10-15 minutes/per 1.5 lb of lobster, to my understanding, after this is done you are to insert a knife where the tail starts and cut it through the middle and pre-crack the knuckle and the pincers, (optional) serve with hot melted butter

Take a large pot with enough room to cook 4 chicken lobsters -those are 1 - 1 1/4 pound lobsters.
Fill pot about 1/3 with water and put the live lobsters into it. Put a lid on the pot, turn heat to about med-high. This will put the lobsters to ''sleep'' before they cook.. Cooking should take about 10 -15 mins from the time the water gets hot..it should not get to a rolling boil. Lobsters are done when they are bright red.

I am from Maine and this is bizarre. What you do : Take whole live lobsters (they must be frisky - the more they move the better they will be) They should be chix - 1 to 1 1/2 lbs. Lay them into a deep pot with enough water to cover them halfway. Don't add salt or other seasonings to them. Set the heat to medium high and cover the pot. Slow heat puts lobsters to sleep. After around 10 - 15 of heat, they are ready to eat. Be sure to pull down the back of the tail to remove the sand vein

Lobsters should be cooked whole as`the body contains the tomalley and the legs offer meat. Cook a 1.5 lb lobster 11 to 12 minutes at a rolling boil. (2 tbs of salt per gallon of water. Forget he bay leaf.) I cooked 75lbs of lobster last weekend and all 50 came out great.
Lobsters can shed a claw stuck between aquatic rocks or lose it to predators and move on like it never happened. These guys have insect-like nervous systems people.

Lobsters do indeed have a nervous system, however the brain is an integral part in the nervous system as well. Lobster have a brain about the size of a grasshopper, even though the nervous system exists within the lobster, it's brain is too minute to process pain, it is instead used to help motor skills, i.e. moving.

They are always cooked whole, without the freakin' rubber bands on, then taken apart AFTER being cooked. There is plenty of meat in the body (where the legs attach) so this method is wasteful.

No way would I EVER take the lobster apart. Just throw the whole lobster into boiling water. Boil for 8 min + add 1 min for every lb of meat. So (2) 1.5lb lobsters would take 11 mins. This includes the time for the water to come back to a boil.

@chapmasi As a chef in training I can back this up. Its best to throw it in live.Unlike humans, lobsters have a very small nervous system, so they won't feel much. And breaking it apart causes water to get into the shell, not only getting rid of all the good juice and flavor in the meat, but also getting water in the shell and making eating it an even bigger mess. It's best to take a live lobster and simply boil it whole in hot water without seasoning.

Bring the salt water to a boil, and drop it in!
You wanna let the lobster boil in the water 10-15 minutes/per 1.5 lb of lobster, to my understanding, after this is done you are to insert a knife where the tail starts and cut it through the middle and pre-crack the knuckle and the pincers, (optional) serve with hot melted butter

Wrong, wrong, wrong! No seasonings - no decapitating of lobsters!!
Take a large pot with enough room to cook 4 chicken lobsters -those are 1 - 1 1/4 pound lobsters.
Fill pot about 1/3 with water and put the live lobsters into it. Put a lid on the pot, turn heat to about med-high. This will put the lobsters to ''sleep'' before they cook.. Cooking should take about 10 -15 mins from the time the water gets hot..it should not get to a rolling boil. Lobsters are done when they are bright red.

I am from Maine and this is bizarre. What you do : Take whole live lobsters (they must be frisky - the more they move the better they will be) They should be chix - 1 to 1 1/2 lbs. Lay them into a deep pot with enough water to cover them halfway. Don't add salt or other seasonings to them. Set the heat to medium high and cover the pot. Slow heat puts lobsters to sleep. After around 10 - 15 of heat, they are ready to eat. Be sure to pull down the back of the tail to remove the sand vein

Sorry original poster but this video is so WRONG! I also spent a good many years in N.S. and this video isn't the real deal. Remove the bands as they can ruin the taste of the meat. Lobsters should be cooked whole as`the body contains the tomalley and the legs offer meat. Cook a 1.5 lb lobster 11 to 12 minutes at a rolling boil. (2 tbs of salt per gallon of water. Forget he bay leaf.) I cooked 75lbs of lobster last weekend and all 50 came out great.

We must remember that lobsters have evolved to to lose their legs and live, while humans have evolved to lose their hair and live. Comparing what lobsters can physically accomplish to what humans can is irrelevant.
Perhaps your idea is that lobsters do not feel pain at all? Pain bypasses the brain altogether. The lobster's legs are boiling, and those neurons communicate directly to the mouth to produce a scream.
Lobsters are not humans and feel differently, but they still feel pain.

No....my idea is that the processes that occur in humans are much more complex than an invertebrate who's one step over an insect's NV system, or doesn't even surpass that.
If a human lost a leg, there would be visible signs of agony(obviously). In lobsters and insects, you hardly see that at all. I never said regeneration proves they can't feel pain. I said they couldn't care less.

Exactly! that kind of pain they feel is not or at least shouldn't be analogous to mammals because of the psychological processes that are so different. Sure primitive pain receptors, like that of a large insect to escape danger, but the idea of feeling pain as suffering in lobs is not realistic.

The term "suffer" you introduced is way too subjective and humanly imposing to attempt to assign or unassign to a lobster. The fact that it's a "lowly" insect thrashing in the pain doesn't do anything for your argument as it still has a nervous system and will feel great pain as a result.
What is "cruel" or not is ultimately subjective and for each individual to evaluate. For me its very clear, and based on the objectivity of the ability to feel pain or not.

so the lobsters are trapped in tiny cages and shipped for miles, then rubber bands are squeezed onto thier claws their put in a tank where they have to walk on top of each other only to have thier limbs twisted of and then boiled alive? wow that is cruelty!
