  • people leave the silverware on the floor because there are servers/waiters to pick it up for you. She's correct. The worst thing you can do to embarrass yourselves in a very formal set-up is to make too much unnecessary movements on the table... but if I'm in a home of a friend, I think I would rather pick it up as a form of apology to the host.

  • damn...if you drop it pick it up your own damn self.

  • I took etiquette classes ( mandatory in private school -4th grade) & they never once told us that if we were to drop a piece of silverware to LEAVE IT THERE!!! ..that is just gross & AWKWARD!! lol... who just leaves it there?? I wouldn't even be able to go on with the dinner cause i'd be so conscious of my fork on the floor with some food still on it and probably messing up the carpet/hardwood...

  • That poxy advert lasts longer then the video clip.Trust the Americans to shove an advert in!

  • Guys this is for formal settings like dining with the queen or a military ball. if you are at ihop and you drop silverware, by all means pick it up. its called etiquette

  • people like this are useless in life....

  • The way she drops the fork looks so sexy.

  • Well where I am if you drop something you better pick it up. you dont leave your crap on my floor lol.

  • haha,if you dont ask for a CLEAN napkin, the waiter will take someones dirty napkin and give it to you

  • Isn't it rude to just leave it there on the floor???

  • This is too formal, I think it's absolutely normal to just lean down and grab it, then ask for a new one.

  • same here lol, just get up put it in the sink then get a new one. id be a bit pissed if someone threw their fork on my carpet and just left it there! what if it mash potato and gravy on it!

  • hahah yeah i'd be like um... you gonna get that?

  • If you are at a large banquet or function, you should discreetly signal (Do not wave or flag like mad!) to a server to avoid that any staff serving could accidently slip on cutlery otherwise you risk having someone drop entire serving trays, plates of food, coffee onto a guest or staff - injuring someone & turning the entire affair into a disaster because of NEGLECT. It is YOUR responsibility to advise someone as soon as you can. But yes, do not get up to pick it if you are at a formal dinner.

  • some countries fart after the meal.its their way of saying it was good!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This woman needs an elocution lesson

  • the american style! if you fuck up something just leave it there and let someone else take care of it.

  • haha thats so funny lol

  • What happens if I drop one at dinner?

  • do what you want? LOL

  • may i know why we can't pick up our own silverware/napkin?

  • Because getting up from a table is disruptive for the other guests at a former dinner and you should minimize raising a fuss while at the dinner table. If lacks class and is against the rules of protocol - especially with VIP guests attending. It would look ridiculous if you get up or slouch under the table to get your napkin! And do NOT ask someone to get the napkin for you either! Silverware dropped can be a hazard and should be signaled to someone as soon as possible.

  • fancy restaurants, occusions...sure. But if you were eating at a friend's house, it's just normal to pick it up.

  • This is the only thing I'm confused about.

If you don't pick it up, and ask the staff for a new fork/knife/napkin, won't it seem arrogant or stuck up or pretentious?

However, if you do pick it up, it is not classy to be putting silverware from the floor back onto the table.

It seems like a lose-lose situation...

  • it is lose-lose, careful about dropping your things!

  • Oh I thought we had to ask the person beside us to reach to dropped fork ...

  • reallyÉ I find that rude lol didnt know thatéé But dont think id be comfortable leaving ti there

  • Let me guess :P you're using a french keyboard right ? Montreal ?
