Btw, i was re- watching... i played disgaea for ps2 and i found it really cool, even though i prefer MAKAI KINGDOM far better... it comes from the same developers. By far the deepest and best RPG I have played. Challenging, but not unfair. Perfect.

Funny how some people compare Dark Souls with games that have nothing whatsoever to do with it, because they're entirely different games. Skyrim exists, so deal with it. It's better than 95% of all the other games available, so if you wanna dis a game then start dissing those. Games like Gothic 4, for instance, or what about Dragon Age 2?

The irony is that there are so many GOTY awards that Dark Souls also won several of these including Double Fine Productions, Electronic Gaming Monthly, Game Revolution, IncGamers,Q-Games awards. Calling one game GOTY is pointless since there are so many awards.
Because i love this game i made my own pendant of the Skyrim logo. On a 3D print service (shapeway) you can print this out in stainles steel or even pure silver. I would love to hear what you think about the design. It is my own interpretation of the logo, from which i make a 3D model.

The elder stroll series is by far unique and epic but only amazing by scope. You got the bigger story, bigger world, and the epic dragons and all that gives you the free reward from exploring that all. Those 2 games require a greater challenge and gives you more of a greater reward.

All things considered, I don't think it's fair to try to compare Skyrim and Dark Souls as the two are wholly different beasts altogether. Dark Souls feels like a throwback to the days of traditional RPG's, where classes and builds were important to the feel of the game and the story is established mostly through the items and NPC's rather than cutscenes. Skyrim is how I justify spending several hours on a game without really having done much, the open-world aspect is what people crave. IMHO
@Gunfire4hire what? dark souls classes only matter on the beggining.. the only thing you must chose is if you want to be fast guy or a slow heavily armoured guy... or a magic guy...
@dfghj241 I mean, classes have a little weight in that the majority of your early game depends on what your class starts you with like stats, abilities, etc. Relatively speaking to Skyrim of course, which has no class system... And if you read my first comment, I talked about how I grew up with TES, including Morrowind hahaha.
@Gunfire4hire Skyrim technically does have classes. You know, Orcs, Bretons, Nords, Argonians, etc. But in both Skryim and Dark Souls, I could take a mage class and turn it into a sword fighting class, so they only matter in the beginning, like you said.
@XularusXIII I guess, but I really don't consider the races to be classes even though you'd want a Khajiit for a stealth-build, Bretons/High Elves for mages, etc. Yeah I agree to an extent that classes only matter in the beginning, but what constitutes the beginning? A good 5+ hours for a vet player I'd say, which is up to maybe Anor Londo so that's still a decent portion of the game... but that's just my opinion. Anyway, Dark Souls and Skyrim FTW, they both deserve GOTY in their own way.
Now on Dark Souls... Holy fuck, what a game. The level design is on par with the best of the best, boss encounters are exciting, memorable and frustrating at the same time, and grinding/farming for several hours is slow as hell but just as rewarding. But, the learning curve is so steep, new players (like myself) will be begging for the game to throw them a bone. It's difficult to figure out where you're supposed to go and you WILL die dozens, if not hundreds, of times. -->
That being said, I absolutely love rping with the characters that I created in Skyrim, having my spell-blade read through all the books in the College of Winterhold and combat was addicting and rewarding in most parts. So in the end, all my negative points are just instances of nitpicking since Bethesda still sent out a super-polished game that simply could've used a little more refinement in the story itself, although the lore established through the books is still awesome to read through. -->
I have no opinion on Disgaea. However, I have played both Skyrim and Dark Souls... As a TES "fanboy" myself, who grew up with Arena and spent countless hours in both Morrowind and Oblivion, Skyrim was really underwhelming considering all the expectations they had building up to it. I must've spent 125+ hours on it, and this is what I gathered: they got lazy with the questlines, dragon encounters were lame and it was buggy as all hell. Also, No hard feelings but Darks Souls and the Disgaea series may look uninteresting, there by far the most advances Rpgs out there for those "few" Veteran Rpg fans that looking for a hardcore experience.
The elder stroll series is by far unique and epic but only amazing by scope. You got the bigger story, bigger world, and the epic dragons and all that gives you the free reward from exploring that all. Those 2 games require a greater challenge and gives you more of a greater reward.

Personally, im tired of all these japanese games, like the 2 showed above here, dark souls is infact a good game but i like games without ending and massive freedom, that evolves and responds to you as you level up and that i can be hour and hours of playing and not getting bored, japanese games should get out of their cliches stories and have new ideas seriously, like the FF series i used to like em, now i cant stand them, other than the fact that all the males look like females...-_-

Personally I would go with Skyrim which did win Best RPG of E3 2011(Editors' Choice). But the Witcher 2 won Best RPG of E3 2011(Readers' Choice). Point is, there are a lot of games. All things considered, I don't think it's fair to try to compare Skyrim and Dark Souls as the two are wholly different beasts altogether. Dark Souls feels like a throwback to the days of traditional RPG's, where classes and builds were important to the feel of the game and the story is established mostly through the items and NPC's rather than cutscenes. Skyrim is how I justify spending several hours on a game without really having done much, the open-world aspect is what people crave. IMHO

@dfghj241 I mean, classes have a little weight in that the majority of your early game depends on what your class starts you with like stats, abilities, etc. Relatively speaking to Skyrim of course, which has no class system... And if you read my first comment, I talked about how I grew up with TES, including Morrowind hahaha.

@Gunfire4hire Skyrim technically does have classes. You know, Orcs, Bretons, Nords, Argonians, etc. But in both Skryim and Dark Souls, I could take a mage class and turn it into a sword fighting class, so they only matter in the beginning, like you said.

@XularusXIII I guess, but I really don't consider the races to be classes even though you'd want a Khajiit for a stealth-build, Bretons/High Elves for mages, etc. Yeah I agree to an extent that classes only matter in the beginning, but what constitutes the beginning? A good 5+ hours for a vet player I'd say, which is up to maybe Anor Londo so that's still a decent portion of the game... but that's just my opinion. Anyway, Dark Souls and Skyrim FTW, they both deserve GOTY in their own way.

Now on Dark Souls... Holy fuck, what a game. The level design is on par with the best of the best, boss encounters are exciting, memorable and frustrating at the same time, and grinding/farming for several hours is slow as hell but just as rewarding. But, the learning curve is so steep, new players (like myself) will be begging for the game to throw them a bone. It's difficult to figure out where you're supposed to go and you WILL die dozens, if not hundreds, of times. -->

That being said, I absolutely love rping with the characters that I created in Skyrim, having my spell-blade read through all the books in the College of Winterhold and combat was addicting and rewarding in most parts. So in the end, all my negative points are just instances of nitpicking since Bethesda still sent out a super-polished game that simply could've used a little more refinement in the story itself, although the lore established through the books is still awesome to read through. -->

I have no opinion on Disgaea. However, I have played both Skyrim and Dark Souls... As a TES "fanboy" myself, who grew up with Arena and spent countless hours in both Morrowind and Oblivion, Skyrim was really underwhelming considering all the expectations they had building up to it. I must've spent 125+ hours on it, and this is what I gathered: they got lazy with the questlines, dragon encounters were lame and it was buggy as all hell. But you know what, it's still 125+ hours. -->
