at 5:48 he is playing on the bridge nut, didn't know u could do that, but guitars where made MUCH better then, not the massive produced crap you have now, burn m
Actually Mosrite guitars were probably one of the worst guitars ever built. They were constantly going out of tune - especially at outdoor concerts...
@est3inb3rg WOW, that blows my mind. You'd think with all my experience I could tell the difference right away. I have most of there albums and still listen to them. I'm a little disappointed....
@est3inb3rg The original Mosrites made by Semie Moseley were all custom made by hand and were as good as any guitar available at the time. They were farmed out about '68 and quality was never the same. I was able to play one of the originals in 1965 and it had a neck and P/U's better than anything I seen since, and I've played everything that's been factory produced. Just my 2 cents worth.
Moog was thinking about it. Rappers were an itch in daddy's pants. That's why I have an attitude regarding guitar hero. Played for 45 years and sure as you know. It takes practice, practice, practice. Not red and blue buttons profiling in front of a mirror..;)
...ok, let's talk about things from forty-five years ago, having done a show or two with this group...one cymbal, minimal Gretch drum kit...for guitarists, no pedal board, no effects...Fender Showman and Bassman amps...Mosrite guitars (lead a bit overdriven)...a lead guitarist who fingerpicks and flatpicks in the same song, for God's sake...and, that's the way it was..!
This was shot as a feature film and the soundtrack recorded for a live album (available in the USA as "Live in Japan 65"), so professional equipment was used.
I couldn't agree more - my answer:*1. Excellent playing! They all have killer musical ears - more skill with the lead guitar and drums where you need it - more passion and fire with the bass and rhythm guitar driving the HEART of the music.* 2. Excellent Equipment. From the great mics & consoles used by the Japanese media to Great Gretsch Drums to perfectly tuned and maintained Fender 50 Watt Amps reproducing the LOUD hand made pickups & hand made guitars of Semie Moseley.*3 Great songs & Arr.
*3 Great songs & Arrangements. *4* Chemistry. These guys are PROUD of what they have fought to achieve. No one believed in their sound in 1959. Don's mom risked her own money to make her son's dream come true. They LOVE this band. They love their audience. They LOCK in. Don't you wish bands like this today could break through in the crappy McMedia?
RIP Bob Bogle. What an amazing musician he was. My 11 year old has been watching these old clips of The Ventures and wants to learn to play the guitar. Thank you Bob for all the great music you made.
York, I learned to play guitar because of these guys, they are gods among my musician friends of 30 years. I actually owned this album. Mel Taylor is the greatest drummer of all time.
The Ventures.. Kings of Rock! some music genres wouldnt even exist if it wasn't for them, and Dick Dale. Awesome Videos! These songs are still fresh after all these years.. and will likely be popular forever. kudos to the Chantays, Richie Valens, Buddy Holly, Sufaris, & Marketts as well. God bless each and every one. It's up to us to make sure the music NEVER dies... as long as theres a guitar and someone who plays from the heart, the torch will be carried..
what i like about the drummer is that he has kind of a minimalistic drumset, but he does sound better than 90% of all drummers (with way bigger drumsets!) i heard in the past.
Several reasons why they're popular in Japan: 1) Instrumental music crosses cultural boundaries (no vocal interpretation necessary), 2) A lot of the melodies were heavily centered around a minor scales which is very close to Japanese folk music, 3) The Ventures' signature guitar sound (trebly, twangy) was very identifiable to Japanese string instruments (Koto, Biwa, Shamisen), 4) The Ventures were/are just plain good.
Bob was lead on Walk Don't Run and several other hits, with Nokie playing bass. These 4 were so freakin' talented, it aches. Don is fantastic and Mel is the greatest drummer of all time. The R&R HOF should be ashamed. They should have been plank owners, instead of waiting until this year.
The most incredible Rock 'n Roll instrumental band the world has ever seen! They were lately inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame! Nokie Edwards finger picks so effortlessly that he makes it look easy. These are the Original Members. Mel Taylor on drums, Don Wilson-Rhythm, Nokie Edwards-Lead, and the marvelous Bob Bogle on Bass. Playing their Mosrite guitars Simi Mosely made for them!
It doesn't get any better than this! Thanks for the upload!

What a drummer! And incredible guitarists, too. With no vocals to hide behind, they really had to know what they were doing.
Thanks!
