I just heard on Jay Mohr's Podcast, that the entire time Tom Cruiese was sitting at the restaurant talking to Jay in the begining of this video, Tom was giving hand cues to Jay to move to the right just out of shot below the fram. When jay noticed and moved to the right, Tom gave him the OK sign with his fingers and they never missed a beat. Wow!
If you loved hearing Jay talk about how he got the part of Bob Sugar in podcast, you'll love listening to him give life advice to comedian Joe Matarese on his podcast Fixing Joe with Joe Matarese. It's on Itunes! He's had Artie Lange, Jay Mohr, Craig Ferguson, Bill Burr, and many other stars of standup comedy.
Mohr has a podcast now. He talked about this exact scene on his show. I came here to check it out. He also talked about Cruise and how much of a nice guy he is/was. Good to see it now after seeing Mohr talk about it.
@TonyVisciardi, I also ended up here after listening to "The Legend of Tom Cruise"... Mohr is such a great storyteller, I felt like I was in the room with them during the audition! Can't wait for the next episode of Mohr Stories!!!
Jesus "The Christ" must have been then dumb as a human when he was taking so bad care of his dad's business and he whipped the traders off their main Centre.Because it's about business, not ethics? And God must not know about managing or Corporate Worlds
I'm sorry, but if you're stupid and greedy to the point where you're willing to employ the services of a man named BOB FUCKING SUGAR, you're not getting one iota of my sympathy.
Sickening in the way he not only looks him in the eye as he does it........he smiles without trying to hide it and then won't hear Jerry out for one second. On top of that .....cops out with "Y,know what I went through knowing I was gonna have to fire my mentor!" Oooooohh I'd have punched!!!!!
I don't get why he was fired. He wrote a memo, that he passed around the office but they didn't actually show him putting it into action. He didn't cost the firm any business and suddenly he is just fired..
The corporate culture at SMI was all about profit at any cost. The mission statement Jerry wrote had too much integrity for that system. They felt he had lost focus and he had to go.
True good point. But he is portrayed as one of the most successful agents to ever work at the firm. I would think he would at least deserve a sitdown with his bosses and a chance to explain himsef before being canned, but it is a movie..
@dbreiden83080 With the mission statement, he was basically calling out the management of the firm, accusing them of less-than-ethical business practices and suggesting they change the entire model the business had been built on. While he ends up being right, you can't pull stunts like that in the corporate world. On Monday, try writing a critical E-Mail questioning the motives of your managers and circulate it to everybody in the company. Most likely, you would be out the door by day's end.
If they were firing him, they wouldn't have let him stay in the office to make those phone calls to try to get clients away. He would have been escorted out.
Sugar is actually right. Jerry did say "less clients". Well, great, now he gets less clients.
Jerry actually owes a lot to Sugar. Sugar pushes him, helping him take the plunge he spiritually needed. He builds a genuine relationship with Rod, and while down in the dirt learns who loves him for him - Dorothy.
The worst thing in the world for Tom is if Sugar DIDN'T do this to him, if Tom just went on with his pointless, emotionally isolated life.
"jay mohr is a terrific fucking actor" ron bennington said it, and so its true.

25% commission. That's fucking usury. If Scrooge were a sports agent, I'll bet even he wouldn't charge that much.
