The story line is good! The game is more of psychological and is unique in the sense that this can be realistic than others cause it could happen in real life actually it really happens in real life if you know what I mean...
I really enjoyed this game-- spent a lot of time playing it! I love how you can affect how the people respond to you by your responses- and even how they are dressed and act. However-- I still prefer classic Silent Hill. The Nightmare episodes did not scare me or mess with my head in this game at all. No chill of fear down the back for me! I didn't find them scarier because I couldn't fight back- that just irritated me. But I did love focussing on the story. All in all- a good game!
definitive one of the best games i ever played. i pass all the other sh games too but in these ones you always knew that there is a way to kill the monsters, you just knew that there is a way to defend yourselve. in shattered memories you can't defend yourselve, your only chance is: run! and because of this, shattered memories is the very first horror game that gave me nightmares and true anxiety states :D

A good game is not a matter of graphics, its about storyline, gameplay, interface, sound and music. And this game had all of the good game features. I have Silent Hill: Origins which features the rusty bloody otherworld that I have no interest at all. Looks like this frost world beat the otherworld. I'm getting addicted to it and I've played it for 2 times. It also have different story depend on what you decide. 5/5 for this game and 5/5 for this trailer and this video.
Original Silent Hill's were great, but 0, and Homecoming didn't fill that empty hole in my heart when Team Silent left. This was a great entry, a whole new story, not just a remake or a reimagining, and the story was very touching. Screw the fuckers who troll and say crap about Silent Hill. The movie was also great and held a little of the atmosphere. Also, Vatra is developing the newest one (they're located in Czech).
@mrtle5 This isn't my favorite Silent Hill game but it was actually done pretty well. Though I do admit that it should only be played on the Wii, especially with what they did with the Wii controls.

I just finished playing it - I can see why alot of people might think it sucks - depends on whether or not you let yourself get immersed into it or not - the whole game kinda creeped me out and that was part of the fun (for me anyways). I say buy it.
I'm putting faith in this game, but I hope it remembers a few things from silent hill 2 that made it SOOOO good and SOOOO successful.
1) Subtlety. Less is more, and snippets and glimpses of what's going on are far more efficient than well rendered glaring OHHHH LOOK STUFF THAT'S SCARY RIGHT?! moments.
2) Sound. The ambient noises coupled with a feeling of isolation really put you on edge. Half of what you see is what you hear.
the sound as in music is very good and i think just as good as sh2 like acceptance by akira yamaoka which is my new fav song now!!! it also has a better SUPRISE! cutscene than in sh2 when u found out that james killed mary lol , also back to the sounds , i liked when you got near a spirit or watever its called and the lights on your tv kept flickering and made a loud and freaky ass sound which scared the fk outta me :) but you should get it! its fkin good as hell man
Plus the point of not fighting was to scare you. Wouldn't you be scared if you had to run away from deadly monsters without weapons and the inability to fight back. It's just quite simply a scare tactic
Well, I played alot of those games and SH:SM doesn't win here to me. None of them have because they are a game. I ran when I first played SH1 when I was a kid as it was easier.
I mean, you can push them off easily anyhow and realy it just repeats over again. Whil it's a tactic, the theme of SH has been always less to do with the actual monsters to begin with. It's not meant to be an excitment style scare such as a jolt from popping around the corner, something SH:SM does ALOT.
Well don't get me wrong, it's an interesting play mechanic and would be awsome in a sequel, but it needs not to rely on it as it's only excitment. The others due to the weapons to remove monsters are more silent and low key while here, the otherworld is no more then for an adrenalin rush.
I've played the game and beat 3 of the varied endings but I love the twist ending with Cheryl. Made me think "why didn't I think it was her" I'm trying not to spoil too much though. X3

I know, right?! I think this is a fantastic way to change the momentum in the series. All recent Silent Hill games, with exception to this one of course, started stagnating after they moved production from Japan, to the West. Homecoming was awful! It was like they smashed and squashed all the previous Silent Hill ideas into a REALLY short game. I think the shift in focus from fear to pure terror was a great move to re-invigerate the series with some originality!
oh no the game wasnt scary at all but the last time silent hill scared me was sh2 with pyramidhead so i didnt really care homecoming was good but uhhh yea not goin in depth i also like 4 and origins and if they are absolutely horrible gameplay wise i look at the story instead thats wat those games are about anyway good writing

This game isn't a remake of Silent Hill, you play the role of Harry Mason in Therapy. Harry (who is in 1st person to give it a more personal feel to the game) talks about the events that happened in the first game.
You quickly realise the characters are not the same and it's not the same story at all. But you have to get to the end to figure it all out...
you dont play as harry when he is in therapy thats cheryl this game is just a re imaging of what could of happened in the first silent hill in which spolier alert harry dies in the car crash an cheryl dreams of all the events in silent hill thus in her eyes making harry a hero but in fact harry was dead that whole time so she goes to therapy not believing her father had died an for 18 years she still sees him as if he is still alive but it was all in her head he wasnt just an image in her head
Just finished this game and it is AWESOMEEE. It has some very hard puzzles though, some took me over 45 minutes just to figure out, but it was very fun, very creepy too. I re-played the game from the beginning and discovered that the game tracks every choice you make and characters and dialogue will change depending on what paths, actions, and other choices you make. I recommend this.
No, the storyline is TOTALLY different. Basically same names and locations but different events. In fact, this game has a lot of references to all Silent Hill games. But, it's not really like any of them at all. The end of it is sad... T.T
Just beat it yesterday (got it yesterday). It's VERY short, but one of the best games out there. Certainly one of the best Silent Hill games in a long time. Only part I didn't like were the nightmare sequences... to me they just got in the way of exploration and storyline in some parts. They're also way too easy. Other than that... this game is great, despite its REALLY short length (I can't stress this enough). Go pick it up... NOW! Be warned... the ending is sad though x.x

I think the idea of the game is easy to figure out, you always start off dead. The reason she's missing is that she's alive. he's trapped in another world of evil.
And what are you making that judgment on? Your experience in playing all of the games for the wii? I'm sure you haven't played the wii, or you've only played wii sports. Yes, the wii does have bad games, but it does have good games too. The wii is very fun, and you shouldn't be so quick to rate the console.

No screaming air raid siren in the background between worlds? That was a signature of the original Silent Hill. Still, I will get this and it will be scary.
It's both. Some of the old Silent Hill games are difficult because you need to find hidden objects and combine them to move along the story. It just makes it EVEN HARDER with groups of deformed creatures lurking behind every corner. know what i mean?

Sure, it might not be as got as the other Silent Hill games (although I'm willing to bet it'll be better that 4; the Room) but bashing it before you've even played is an insult to all of the time and effort the creators have put into it, in hopes that we will enjoy it.

Compared to Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories looks average. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is supposed to be 2010. Silent Hill 2 came out in 2001. In the space of 9 years, Silent Hill should have progressed, instead it's gone backwards. Silent Hill Psone looks more impressive, and that came out in 1999. Who ever suggested the idea of removing weapons should be shot. Its the dumbest thing ever. The whole ice thing sucks too.
The only reason you think a PSone game looks more impressive than this, is because you're either A: angry about the ice thing, or B: you want combat back.
And speaking of combat, Homecoming sucks balls. Having an option to fight your enemies doesn't change this fact. This new approach is much better.
the terrible combat and stiffness of the game is half of what made the game horrifying. The idea behind it was that if you fight the enemies, you're going to struggle because you aren't the strongest fighter, but if you try to escape, you're just as fucked.
The fear that one would have in the situation is going to make you disorientated, and make you struggle. All of the controls of the likes of Silent Hill 1, 2, and 3 were completely thought out in a way that amplified the fear.
Yup, I know that very well. And I have nothing against that, I'm a huge fan of Silent Hill 1 and especially 2.
But, if you think about the very concept of FEAR, then even fighting wouldn't make any sense. Because encountering any kind of monster in real life would result in, you guessed it, running away. What did you do in most of the nightmares you saw as a child? Right, ran for your life and never looked back.
So these new game mechanics make a lot of sense, if you stop and think for a while

But everyone's different some would fight the fucking monster some would run for the hills and some times the one that at would run fight because they have something to fight for like a loved one ...or there wife that happens to be died but get a letter form them like James did and he did a lot of things a sane person would not do like jump in to a hole that went for who know how far down
Removing combat is an idea you'd think they would have had at LEAST after the third game. Monsters are less scary when you're looking at them from the safe end of a shotgun. Finally they've got a Silent Hill game that's not an ammo-conservation horror.

I think this could be quite good, thought I am a bit worried about the Wii version...the Wii, while a great system, never seems to his a good middle ground with it's control system for multiple-system games, either performing horribly, or beautifully.
I like the new aspects of gameplay they're adding, but they got rid of Otherworld. Silent Hill is not Silent Hill without Otherworld. The story makes no sense when you set it in some frozen alternate dimension. Otherwise, this game looks like it would be a solid remake. I will probably play it anyway, but I still think it's a stupid idea to change a major plot device like Otherworld.
No, not really. The original game was set in a winter setting, and it's sort of redundant to go from snow to colder snow and ice. Otherworld is a darkly surreal realm that's basically a reflection of different people's minds. In the original it was a place where Alessa had power, and the creatures were symbolic of her fears and discomforts. This new icy setting is sort of a cop out, and it feels like they're watering the story down to appeal to the non-gamers who liked the movie.
But the snow and ice thing IS the other world. The creators of the game said so. They wanted to change the concept of the Otherworld, add in a little change.
My view is that they could have had this as a verient of otherworld from a dark one coming to town. To redo the series in this instead, is bad..
Otherworld isn't a hell and all have their own devient. After that, remember that only two explores a dark one coming to town as 1,3 and 4 all has them tied to a ritual or cult event.
If they are so into 2 as they say, they need to quit posting 2 over everything where its the protagonists mind & actually do more of the dark ones coming into town.
Oh and got to love their phychological aspect, visual verients of characters and other tiny things that you already know for checking the tabs on a chart.
If TS did it, or the team transition comminicated better then now, we would have full otherworld devients or other.
Also, if Alessa isn't there, Silent Hill will be uninspired as it will be the cliche of "it's real?" to just "oh, in his head, as usual".
Maybe Samael accidently left the freezer open one night. and when he woke up, the whole town had frozen over...lol its possible. but seriously don't judge just becuase its now ice doesn't mean it won't be scary.
this is a 'reimagining' of the remake. they're just revisiting the story cuz they luv it so much or something. and srsly. if that's the best they can do with graphics... guy's come on. the wii is not THAT bad. nice try.

i loved the silent hill 1 but i think the remake is actually going to open our eyes. it looks like events in the first game are going to be shown from a new perspective in that perhaps not everything harry experienced is exactly as he saw it.
certain stuff he may have made up. almost like the car crash ending in his mind from the original. i think its a great idea. hell yeah

for me it was nothing to do with the graphics, it was just so bad in terms of the rest of Silent Hill.

The story and athmosphere really is the keyword here.
Seems like the Japanese can create a scarier athmosphare than Americans can.
Honestly, Silent Hill for PlayStation 1 is better than this game by far.

This game isn't a remake of Silent Hill, you play the role of Harry Mason in Therapy. Harry (who is in 1st person to give it a more personal feel to the game) talks about the events that happened in the first game.
You quickly realise the characters are not the same and it's not the same story at all. But you have to get to the end to figure it all out...

you dont play as harry when he is in therapy thats cheryl this game is just a re imaging of what could of happened in the first silent hill in which spolier alert harry dies in the car crash an cheryl dreams of all the events in silent hill thus in her eyes making harry a hero but in fact harry was dead that whole time so she goes to therapy not believing her father had died an for 18 years she still sees him as if he is still alive but it was all in her head he wasnt just an image in her head

Just finished this game and it is AWESOMEEE. It has some very hard puzzles though, some took me over 45 minutes just to figure out, but it was very fun, very creepy too. I re-played the game from the beginning and discovered that the game tracks every choice you make and characters and dialogue will change depending on what paths, actions, and other choices you make. I recommend this.

No, the storyline is TOTALLY different. Basically same names and locations but different events. In fact, this game has a lot of references to all Silent Hill games. But, it's not really like any of them at all. The end of it is sad... T.T

Just beat it yesterday (got it yesterday). It's VERY short, but one of the best games out there. Certainly one of the best Silent Hill games in a long time. Only part I didn't like were the nightmare sequences... to me they just got in the way of exploration and storyline in some parts. They're also way too easy. Other than that... this game is great, despite its REALLY short length (I can't stress this enough). Go pick it up... NOW! Be warned... the ending is sad though x.x

Yes, the wii does have bad games, but it does have good games too. The wii is very fun, and you shouldn't be so quick to rate the console.

It's both. Some of the old Silent Hill games are difficult because you need to find hidden objects and combine them to move along the story. It just makes it EVEN HARDER with groups of deformed creatures lurking behind every corner. know what i mean?

Sure, it might not be as got as the other Silent Hill games (although I'm willing to bet it'll be better that 4; the Room) but bashing it before you've even played is an insult to all of the time and effort the creators have put into it, in hopes that we will enjoy it.

I like the psychology aspect and how choosing different things will alter the games appearance and outcome.
But how many times will they try to re-hash the first games story?
It's getting tiring to see the same thing over and over with just a different wrapper.
At least homecoming was trying to be it's own story, not shamelessly trying to squeeze money out of a done-to-death plot.
And the gameplay seems interesting, but only time will tell if it actually adds some scares.

Compared to Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories looks average. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is supposed to be 2010. Silent Hill 2 came out in 2001. In the space of 9 years, Silent Hill should have progressed, instead it's gone backwards. Silent Hill Psone looks more impressive, and that came out in 1999. Who ever suggested the idea of removing weapons should be shot. Its the dumbest thing ever. The whole ice thing sucks too.

What Silent Hill 2 had:
-stiff controls
-horrible combat mechanics
-puzzles that didn't make any sense
What Shattered Memories will have:
-smooth controls
-puzzles that you could face in reality
The only reason you think a PSone game looks more impressive than this, is because you're either A: angry about the ice thing, or B: you want combat back.
And speaking of combat, Homecoming sucks balls. Having an option to fight your enemies doesn't change this fact. This new approach is much better.

the terrible combat and stiffness of the game is half of what made the game horrifying. The idea behind it was that if you fight the enemies, you're going to struggle because you aren't the strongest fighter, but if you try to escape, you're just as fucked.
The fear that one would have in the situation is going to make you disorientated, and make you struggle. All of the controls of the likes of Silent Hill 1, 2, and 3 were completely thought out in a way that amplified the fear.

Yup, I know that very well. And I have nothing against that, I'm a huge fan of Silent Hill 1 and especially 2.
But, if you think about the very concept of FEAR, then even fighting wouldn't make any sense. Because encountering any kind of monster in real life would result in, you guessed it, running away. What did you do in most of the nightmares you saw as a child? Right, ran for your life and never looked back.
So these new game mechanics make a lot of sense, if you stop and think for a while

But everyone's different some would fight the fucking monster some would run for the hills and some times the one that at would run fight because they have something to fight for like a loved one ...or there wife that happens to be died but get a letter form them like James did and he did a lot of things a sane person would not do like jump in to a hole that went for who know how far down

Removing combat is an idea you'd think they would have had at LEAST after the third game. Monsters are less scary when you're looking at them from the safe end of a shotgun. Finally they've got a Silent Hill game that's not an ammo-conservation horror.

I like the new aspects of gameplay they're adding, but they got rid of Otherworld. Silent Hill is not Silent Hill without Otherworld. The story makes no sense when you set it in some frozen alternate dimension. Otherwise, this game looks like it would be a solid remake. I will probably play it anyway, but I still think it's a stupid idea to change a major plot device like Otherworld.

No, not really. The original game was set in a winter setting, and it's sort of redundant to go from snow to colder snow and ice. Otherworld is a darkly surreal realm that's basically a reflection of different people's minds. In the original it was a place where Alessa had power, and the creatures were symbolic of her fears and discomforts. This new icy setting is sort of a cop out, and it feels like they're watering the story down to appeal to the non-gamers who liked the movie.

My view is that they could have had this as a verient of otherworld from a dark one coming to town. To redo the series in this instead, is bad..
Otherworld isn't a hell and all have their own devient. After that, remember that only two explores a dark one coming to town as 1,3 and 4 all has them tied to a ritual or cult event.
If they are so into 2 as they say, they need to quit posting 2 over everything where its the protagonists mind & actually do more of the dark ones coming into town.

Oh and got to love their phychological aspect, visual verients of characters and other tiny things that you already know for checking the tabs on a chart.
If TS did it, or the team transition comminicated better then now, we would have full otherworld devients or other.
Also, if Alessa isn't there, Silent Hill will be uninspired as it will be the cliche of "it's real?" to just "oh, in his head, as usual".

i loved the silent hill 1 but i think the remake is actually going to open our eyes. it looks like events in the first game are going to be shown from a new perspective in that perhaps not everything harry experienced is exactly as he saw it.
certain stuff he may have made up. almost like the car crash ending in his mind from the original. i think its a great idea. hell yeah
