Ever tried crack? Cincinnati is plentiful for crack and heroin. Listen to Mental Teleprosy and you'll understand those walls crumblin' down aren't just Mr. Simon Leis. He's the problem. Nice vid. You got a shot over the stadium pretty close to where I sat and watched games. :) It was also fun to walk across the bridge and buy a ticket too.
I saw so many great baseball games at "Riverfront" when I was growing up......I was there in the mid-70's for the Big Red Machine. Some fond moments in my life!
The left field & center field stands were demolished following the 2000 season, thus reducing the capacity to 40,007. The Reds played in the reconfigured Cinergy Field in both 2001 & 2002.
This was only 3/4 of the Stadium the first quarter was torn down a year early to make room for the new stadium. new of guys who built the new one they would have lunch and break were they could watch the games.
We had VIP passes from O'Rourke, the company who imploded the building. We were the closest you could get, on the Paul Brown Stadium Lot D. I was only 9 when it happened.
I still can't believe they tore down Riverfront Stadium. I remember when it was built ! Damn I'm old. I moved away in '91 and when I heard they tore it down I was in disbelief. Thank god I have a nice framed pic of it I took from the river!
I still think they should have kept the old stadium for both teams. Would have saved some money. I still wonder if the lawsuits between the Bengals and the County are still in court. Mike Brown made it seem like if they got a new stadium they would be better. They were later down the road had what 3 betters seasons and had one playoff game, but for a while they havent been doin good. You can play good or bad in the same stadium lol.
I agree, I cried when this happened. In fact, this video still makes me cry. I remember going to Riverfront as a kid. It's where I fell in love with the game and it will always have a special place in my heart. GABP is a wonderful park, very fan friendly... but Riverfront will always be home to me!!
I felt the same way when Indianapoplis Colts RCA DOME went down Yr 2008. I attended thier Last game ever played at the dome. it was a Playoff Game Vs The Sandiego Chargers.(we Lost) Most of the Time, the fans will leave at the end Of the game, But this time, Many took an Hour to leave. you can see it in thier eyes, They didnt want to leave cause they Knew it was thier last. it was sooo sad to watch. But we all have fond memories but have a new Home with the Lucas Oil Stadium! ~JON
Thank god these stadium's are all gone now. They were the worst stadium's ever built. I'm talking about this one, Three Rivers, Busch, Veterans, Fulton County, the Kingdome and finally this is the last year of the Metrodome. Good Riddance to the worst era of stadium construction.
Grew up in Jamestown,Oh. That was a depressing video.Well atleast I still have those "Big Red Machine" memories from the Johnny Bench,Pete Rose daze :)
mbaehner, Thank you for the correction. I did not post the video until years later and forgot the actual date. I did edit the description after your post.
Why call it "Cinergy Stadium Implosion in Cincinnati Ohio" why not call it "Cinergy Stadium Implosion in Cincinnati Ohio plus a bunch of no bodies watching it". What a waste of time. Who wants to see people, we wanted to see the explosion.
All of these cookie cutter stadiums were an absolute disaster and were obsolete twenty years after they were built. Ironically, Shea Stadium, the first cookie cutter ballpark ever built and the most obsolete of them all will be the last to go.
I lived in Cicinnasti when the stadium came falling down. What an event. I moved from nasti land to Orlando Florida. I do miss Gold Star Chilli though.
