I loved this series, have all the episodes and movies on DVD, the only one thing I never liked was the scene where Sandor flips a switch and the weapon is deflected off the Argo and back at Desslok. I get the meaning where the villian is actually destroyed not by his enemy but by his own hand but there could have been something a little more clever.
Mistake at 5:21. The underbelly Bridge #3 rotted off in the acid sea of Gamallon, and the Star Force wouldn't have had time to build a new one. The saga has LOTS of continuity mistakes, but then again, viewers weren't that noticing of details 40 years ago, or they didn't really care.
@Halpin2006 It's actually her breath returning to her. In the original story, she died. When it was brought over and "Americanized" the violence was toned down and they thought her death would be too much, so they changed it to coma...
At 5:46, when Desslok's ship was destroyed by his own gunfire, I rejoiced at first, seeing the master villain ultimately die by his own hand. Final defeat of the evil supreme dictator is what humanity has always loved!
Only later, during the Comet Empire series, would Desslok become the villain we all LOVED! Sometimes an enemy of an enemy IS a friend!
I always loved the episode in which Desslok took Invidia hostage and escaped from the Comet Empire. I think he said to her, "Thanks for the lift," or something to that effect. He was so cool at times.
I watch this now as a 43 year old man and still feel like i did at 12 eating captin crunch in my room after school, this has been so much a part of my life since i first seen star blazers (YAMATO) have loved it all these years and always will! Never thought in a million years did i imagine i would see it in live action and now its here and i love it even if its not exact.yes i do still cry and feel the emotion even deeper now i understand it more as an adult.
@vlunney How about Barry Pepper as Sandor and Terry O'Qinn (he played John Lock in Lost) as Orion, I could really see that one, alternates for me are David James Elliot as Captain Avatar, Nick Weschler as Wildstar, Kyle Mchlachlen as Desslock, and the Earth Commander could be either Robert Patrick or Tommy Lee Jones
Thank you so much for the uploads, starblazersqfi. Hard to believe this was on over 30 years ago in 1979 and 1980.
I watched Blazers faithfully every weekday morning before school on KMSP-TV out of Minneapolis at 530 am. Coming from a poor family, Star Blazers was a part of my childhood that lightened up my 7th and 8th grade years and perhaps made my "transition" through the growing up years a bit easier.
Even as a kid, I knew parts were hokey, but then again, most sci fi is hokey.
@dorcheat1: I grew up similarly, though I was younger. My sister & I used to literally run home from school to watch it every afternoon. Without a doubt, the best damn cartoon ever made!
Okay, first time I watched this was you putting it up here, and I just finished the Iscandar Series, so I gotta say... THANKS! This is AWESOME! A truely spectacular show, and I can't wait to go through and watch the next series! :)
Also, who ever said ya can't rock the bell-bottom pants in space? XD
God I remember that episode. I was so happy that Nova lived. BTW didnt anyone catch that line when Wildstar said "Please god, Wake up". Kind a intense for a kid's show at the time. Still, Starblazers/aka Yamato rocked!!
Without Sandor, the Star Force would've been destroyed many times. Watch the other episodes, comet empire, bolar wars, forever yamato, etc. His scientific knowledge made it happen.
Along with the many others who have already said so, I would like to thank you for posting this.
I don't know how the HELL this was kept as intact as it was. I mean, the captain died right in front of us. And they hadn't come up with the "freeze him for later" storyline yet, and sure hadn't told any of us about it.
I hope the movie being released this December can be half as good as this original series, the first to be called "anime."
Thanks for posting. I was in the neighborhood of 13 or 14 when this was running, brings back a lot of memories. I used to try to drag my butt out of bed an hour earlier than I had to get up for junior high to watch this. Never was a good early-to-bed-early-to-riser so there were definitly gaps in what I remember. And now I get to watch late at night.
I too want to thank you for posting this. When I was 8 I used to watch this after school, but I'm pretty sure they didn't show them in order. I was never able to piece the whole story together in my mind. Now the story is complete. Again, MANY thanks.
Long live The starforce and the Argo The starforce the hope of the earth It takes a team and the starforce proved just how brave they are defeating gamalon and saving all the people of earth and returning with the cosmo DNa from Iscandar.
This is the second time I watched these scenes (the first being in a subtitled version of Yamato). Seeing Captain Avatar die still makes me sob unabashedly. It was even sadder in English than it was in the original Japanese. =,[
I remember when I was a kid,I was so happy to see the end of Dessloc and his retarded ambitions, yet even today I ask myself why diden't they try to use the cosmo DNA to save Captain Avitar? Well,I guess that is the price we pay for watching the best cartoon ever made!
True,true...but...long after I posted this comment,I discovered in Farewell Space Battleship Yamato that Captain Avatar was in fact frozen until they could find a cure and he was unfrozen and cured only to bring the Argo to her final end. Now if you goto Star Blazers Rebirth, you will discover that it is 25 years later, the Argo totally rebuilt and yes sadly Nova is dead.
Don't be too dissappointed when they leave you hanging after Ch.9.Yamato Guru said he'll complete it.
Thank you Starforce, Thank you all of the Argo crew, after 20 years i see your fight completely as i was only a smal child back then and couldn't understand much. But i kept the most important message with me and knew this was the best of all.
Thank you who put the Iscandar Series back up so all of us could watch again. You have no idea how good that made me feel.
I couldn't have said it better myself, Alucardrx! Thanks for posting these, starblazersqfi- going to your other channel (starblazersce) to watch Season 2!
@Captaincinquo<------ I'll tell you what thou. There was some scenes that touched me alot when Derek thought that he's lost his older brother in that crash until Starsha saved him & nursed him back to health. As well when Nova was knocked out with that radioactive sleep gas & then came back to Wildstar after Captain Avatar had passed away, the whole fleet will now keep the captain in his memory for ever.
4:08 "She looks better." There is joke Cosby made during his stand-up days about that when folks are asked how the body looked at a funeral, everybody says it looked good.
Lord, how Star Blazers made me cry when I was little!
It beat the hell out of all the bullshit programming that American t.v. offered 'for kids.'

Perhaps the Captain wouldn't have space radiation sickness if he didn't have a penthouse apartment with a view of space.

@MJFelder34 To have an arrogant enemy hoisted by his own petard. Is poetic justice.
Desslock's over-confident ego was his downfall.
