Orel Hershiser and Bert Blyleven are not even in the same league, career-wise.
The fact that Blyleven is not in the Hall of Fame, but Bruce Sutter and Jim Rice have recently gotten elected just shows what a sham it is.
And, even as a Dodgers fan, I will dare to say that Orel Hershiser did not have an "awesome carreer". He had a few great seasons, nothing more. His stats don't even come close to being considered Hall of Fame worthy.
I have many friends, I just don't make outrageous claims like "well i know orel personaly".
You mentioned Hall of Fame, Bert Blyleven, and Orel Hershiser in the same sentence. Excuse me for thinking that you believed your personal friend belonged in the Hall of Fame.
And you never bothered to say that you didn't think Orel deserved to be in the Hall of Fame.
And your insults aren't very amusing...or intelligent.
@EricAnno No offense but I believe that Orel did have a great career, one great enough to be put in the Hall Of Fame.
Bert Blyleven should be in the HOF. I agree with you there. They both had great careers. Bert has only 16 wins less than Randy Johnson, who will likely be a shoo-in to the HOF. Thanks.
I disagree that Orel is even remotely worth of the Hall of Fame. He posted one season with an ERA+ over 150, he never had a season with a K/9 over 6.5, and he's only posted one season with a WHIP under 1.050. His career ERA+ is 112 (twelve points above average with just over 3,000 innings) and his career WHIP is 1.261. He is tied for 262nd in ERA+, is 292nd in H/9, is 523rd in BB/9, is 265th in K/9, and is 307th in WHIP.
Those are certainly not Hall of Fame-worthy stats, no offense.
"jackpot" your a dumbass...not only does strasburg consistently throw 100+ to where prior threw upper 90s max, but if you're going to compliment somebody don't compare them to an injury prone wannabe who never developed into an effective long term big league player...typical cubs sign - overpaid a player that never developed to their full potential...keep using that stratetgy, it's worked well for the past century...
Thats pitching man...this comming form a guy that hates the Cubs with a passiion.
I've been looking through the vids here, and what I've seen on TV and I don't see the movement on his heater.
If he stays healthy it wont matter but paying a guy like this from the Nats perspective probably isn't worth it,
How many pitchers fall apart, Prior is just a known exampleIts hard enough to find guys to hit big leage pitching, finding a guy that wont fall apart throwing it is even more difficult
Of the 199 pitchers that have been drafted in the Top Ten of the MLB Draft since it's inception in 1965 ZERO have been elected to the Hall of Fame. Active pitchers that could have a chance are Josh Beckett with 91 wins (so obviously way too early to make a judgement) and Tim Lincecum (which critics believe his windup will cause injury problems later). Strasburg's record of the life of the 6 yr contract he is supposedly getting might be .500 given his youth and the crap team he plays for. Fact.
This due knows how to pitch. I saw his no-hitter versus The Air force Academy on May 8th. It is great to see a kid from SDSU kick ass!!!!!!! It makes me proud to be an alumnus of the fine institution located on Montezuma Mesa.
wouldnt laugh if i were you, people laughed at the rays and look what happened, all cy young canidates not happening but even if they do become that good still not happening for the nats cuz they wont be able to afford them, also the nats will puss out and not draft stasburg cuz bor-ass will demand like 15-20 mill and nats cant afford that
i was talking about what zimmermanfan said bout the nats future rotation dumbass and i never said that those guys were cy young candidiates but garza is nasty wouldnt be surprised if he does win one
"wouldnt laugh if i were you, people laughed at the rays and look what happened, all cy young canidates" sorry your horrible grammar made it look like you were still talking about the Rays. Periods and complete sentences next time, dumbass.
I'm a Mariner fan, but I doubt they'll pick him, but either ways the Nationals might pick them up before the M's do.
He's got good stuff with a 100 mph heater, looks like a good slider, breaking pitch, etc. He's the only college player to pitch for team USA in the Beijing Olympic.
But the Mariners already have Brandon Morrow, Phillipe Aumont, Ryan Rowland-Smith, Ryan Feierabend, and of course their ace Felix Hernandez. All under the age of 25.
Yeah maybe. Projected to become the 2nd overall pick. That young lefty has awesome contract but lacks some power, but who cares, he'll make a great RBI man. He's almost like a Joe Mauer type of guy, except with more speed. He'll fit in perfect with the M's.
@tonyjh34 i'm aware and im saying that his comment was 2 years ago... prior to the news of strasburg hurting his elbow... im just saying that he had hurt his arm already when you commented.
Lincecum is way better!

well i know orel personaly, so i guess that skewd my opinion a bit..his late 88 and 88 post season were more then great..the were fricken magical..
bettydaw1970 2 years ago
I'm sure you do.
Once again, Orel had a few great seasons, nothing Hall of Fame worthy.

What part of skewed didnt u get?
and where did i say Orel was HOF worthy?
you dont have many friends do you?
