I had one of these when I was 16, they have 'interesting' handling. They can suffer the occasional heat seize which again, can be 'interesting'. Best to premix instead of using the oil tank as with all 2-strokes. Had some great fun on it!
Overall rating? 5/10 in reality, but 8/10 because I'm slightly biased.
@SovereignFreeman I have heard that repeatedly about 2 stroke, the pre-mix thing, for as long as I have been riding, which is almost 40 years. I have never known anyone's bike to seize because the oil pump went out. I think it's few and far between and might even be a bit of an old wives tale. I have known people to mess their bikes up because they got the mix ratio wrong though. Once you get used to the handling it's fine, there are no surprises, just a bit soft that's all.
First bike I ever bought. Got a '74 in '85 for $350 USD from the original owner. It had 124,021 miles on it and I put another 5,000 on it before I killed it in Az. The speedo went to 145 mph and that was when I shifted into 6th at 3300 rpm. I have never been more scared.
Very nice, how many re builds ?. Standard shocks, bit suprised about that. I always wanted one back in the 70s ,but couldnt afford it. Thanks for the up load
i had one of these too back in the eighties...remember replacing one piston and all 3 sets of rings(she used to foul the plugs and smoke alot up to then so...wow after that what a difference..no fouling so easy to start, not to much smoke, more power, and just a sweet machine....wish i kept her...think i traded her for a car?...im a dumb ass for doing it...ah well maybe ill find another one -one day?
I had a friend,Joe Allen Prevatt (RIP) who had one of these during High School, and he rode it to school,it was silver,a pretty decent bike,we would have a Joint rolling contest before 1st period in RG upstairs apartment, and go to class baked, almost every morning,GOOD OLE DAYS!!!!!!
I never saw any Suzuki triple in the '70's tricked out. They were all (and there were quite a few of 'em) stock. Those stain. stl. pipes give the bike a whole new look. I like it.
stock pipes have the best sound a kind of muffled pop instead of a pop pop pop

I prefer the sound of the stock pipes.

@Scootertuner1000 I can't recall if it was me forgetting fill the tank or whether the pipes clogged
, but I entertained two Policemen on foot patrol one day haha. *screeeeeeeeech* Aged 16 on that? You can imagine the rest.

@SovereignFreeman hahaha, usually it's that people forgot to fill the tank.

I had a 1975 one of these, not a good bike really. I use to get fed up with being burnt up by Yamaha RD 400's

These old 2 strokes sound like they want to unleash some venom on the road snapping and crackling urging someone to twist that throttle

Would be interested to know what difference the expansion pipes made to the ride performance, certainly sounds like a multi two stroke!

How did you replace the speedomter lenses? My GT380 is about the same condition, except I have severely yellowed lenses on my speedo and tach.
ChazEverest 2 years ago
I got my GT380 speedo & tach lenses restored using Solvol Autosol chrome polish, just put a little spot on a clean rag and rub in a circular motion.
Then wipe off, and use a conventional car polish to make 'em shiny. 5 minutes per lens will make a big difference.
craig380 2 years ago
Craig I simply replaced them with plexiglass.
