  • id been training 9 yrs before i crosstrained, was on the irish mens team at 17 and got near perfect scores on all my gradings. That I was supposedly that good and could be annihilated by boxers and thaiboxers training far shorter times than me was shocking at first. My opinion is shared by almost every rael fighter and coach outside tkd.

  • they're not trying to hit/hurt... it's a demonstration of technique, control, and the art of taekwondo

  • @fostersdf its not sparring then is it and not 1 bit of it is effective

  • @billysue2 What experience, if any, do you have with USTF/ITF Taekwon-Do? from what realm of 'experience' are you making your judgment?

  • @fostersdf 17 yrs with the itf in ireland and the uk from the age of 10 to 27.it was good fun but terrible prepartion for full contact or the street.I was obsessed with tkd for most of this time ,had the keys to the school and trained every day for years.

  • @billysue2 ahh- so then if that's the case, you know that there are 6 different types of sparring, this is but one of them.

  • @fostersdf they are all useless all 6 of them. The vast majority of itf guys cant fight, the exception to that rule appears to be eastern europe where they mix with kickboxing far more.2 itf lads who can fight are zelg galesic and stephan tapilatu but they developed that by training outside tkd and are natural athletes.

  • @billysue2 hmm- Great thing that opinions are just opinions- not facts.. Better is that there's more to Taekwon-Do and sparring itself than just fighting for the sake of fighting. not knowing all those in the ITF (naturally), I can't say your statement is correct or incorrect either- it's your opinion. However, the USTF? I know plenty of fellow Taekwon-Do practicioners who fight very well. It's a matter of opinion.. What rank do/did you hold in TKD, btw? I'm curious

  • @fostersdf i spent 13 yrs as a 1st dan because I was crosstraining with boxers and thai boxers and began to see the futility of the tkd syllabus.I got 1st dan in 1988 so id be 7th dan now had I graded .Theres lots more to martial arts than fighting but tkd still markets itself as self defense when the vast majority of its training is a joke.

  • @billysue2 ahh- Well, as a 4th Dan myself, I can say with confidence that you are incorrect in your assertions abotu Taekwon-do's worth. I'd be willing to bet that the crosstraining was what sidetracked you, but that's only opinion, as is your comment about Taekwon-do's worth.. Have a great day.

  • Why dont they actually hit each other?
