I remember WWS showing Rigert putting chalk on his hands and it showed him from behind. The man's back and traps were utterly amazing.I was inspired more by him than any other lifter.
3:27 looks better than 3:05. 3:27 was not a Marvin Eder style press. No wonder another 90 to 100 pounds could be "pressed." However, this "press" shows truly remarkable back strength.
@dasyatis65 If you look at the frame-by-frame of his clean and jerk, you'll notice how far the bar gets away from his body during hip extension. He muscled the clean up, which is incredibly impressive. However, supreme technical lifter he was not.

At 1:28 where's the body fat percent? Looks near zero!

Man, I miss Wide World of Sports where I saw all Rigert and Vasiliev back in the 1970s.

Excellent slideshow! Rigert was the premiere technical lifter of the era. Still distinguishing himself as a coach.
