@velocity73R Don't worry I don't hate the Intellivision nor this game (hell better than most games today) and was born in 93' My uncle has a intellivision and it still works and that's how I know. However half the time I like to go to the top a jump off.
Nothing personal but I just don't feel this one when I look at it. The graphics and sound bits certainly are impressive and the Intellivision is in general a good console. Still, it looks like a clone of donkey kong with King Kong as a template.
Now Thunder Castle was a classic for the Intellivision!
I'm not seeing how it being a cross between Crazy Climber and Donkey Kong makes it horrible. This game was always one of my favorites. The game play is there, great graphics, nice sounds, controls good. Overall I find it to be one of the better Intellivision games.
OMG!!!!!! I LOVE THIS GAMEEEEEE.THIS IS THE MOST CUTE GAME FROM INTELLIVISION. O QUE RECUERDOS TAN PADRES DE MI NINEZ,EN MI MEXICO LINDO Y QUERIDO. ESTOS ERAN JUEGOS Q TE RETABAN A MOSTRAR TUS HABILIDADES EN LOS LEVELS. LA MUSICA INOLVIDABLE. PARECE Q FUE AYER Q LO JUGUE. OH! OH!!! SI Q ESTAMOS VIEJOS, AJJAAJJAJAJAA.
@sinistermoon I will admit the Intellivision port of DK and DK Jr was a insult but it still had nothing on the Atari 2600 VCS, the commodore vic 20, and the ZX Spectrum versions. Those were really heinous.
@Kennyrules101 13 is little. You grew up in the Next-gen gaming era. I'm glad you are open-minded though and are checking out what video games really came from. No one can ever describe the nostalgia of old games and the fun and joy you had playing them. It was different when these kind of graphics were the best out there. You used your imagination along with playing and really got into the game. Nowadays more value is stressed on reality/graphics versus gameplay.
@Kennyrules101 It's actually a pretty good game. Don't judge games of that era by looks.. Trust me, I've probably been collecting video games since you've been in diapers. XD
i just bought this game plus Micro Surgeon, this reminds me a lot of Donkey Kong for the Atari. i don't own an Atari yet, but thats just my 2 cents. can't play my intellivision yet but i'm stoked on owning it. love the graphics, nothing beats this
for those of you who say this game stinks, take donkey kong, change the graphics, characters, and ladders, add more challenge, and at last, more levels. so its pretty much donkey kong !
OMG how could you not love this game? This is one of the best. I still have it and 49 other great game now all I have to do is get a intell that works lol.
This game was a great Donkey Kong clone and I actually thought it was a better game as a kid. Also, like many others have said, the INTV port of DK was horrible!! This game is a great replacement. My aunt and my uncle had the INTV port and remember it wasn't as good as the arcade version.
This is one of my least favorite Intellivision game. For some reason I just don't care for this game. Maybe it is because there are a lot of other fun Intellivision games to choose from.
Yeah I can understand that. For me it was really awesome because it was the first and only Intellivision game that I bought with my own earned money from a store. Like as in when they were still being sold in stores. So I have very awesome memories of taking it home and opening it up and stuff. It was $5 or so at Kaybee toy store in 1988 or so.
Intellivision was my first video game sytem also. My mother gave me an Intellivision 2 for Christmas in the year 1982. During the video game crash I was able to buy a lot of Intellivision games cheap, for around $5 a game. I was lucky back then that the games were cheap because I didn't have much money when I was a kid.
@sinistermoon Personally I found it a better alternative than the god-awful Donkey Kong adaption--better sound (multiple reward music), real closure for completing the level (the beast falls, the pair gets rescued), and it played so much quicker and looked so much better than the INTV DK. I also loved the neat touch that the background on each challenge screen actually had the cityscape in the background fall lower and lower the higher you went. Really gave a sense of height.
@starblazers1969 Actually it's 1 of my favorites. It kinda reminds me of a cross between Crazy Climber & Donkey Kong. I've still never made it all the way to the top though. I just played INTV Dracula for the 1st time tonight, kinda cool. Man classic/retro games is so great! Thank god for emulation!
I only wonder that if it was 16 bit, why wouldn't they have had sounds and graphics like the SNES or Sega Genesis? Maybe because the programmers back then didn't have the knowledge to make it like that?
The 16 bit only applies to a data bus pathway, so its like having 16 lanes on a highway not 8 as you would on an 8 bit system but separate from that are the independent custom chips such as for example in the case of the Commodore Amiga, you had -:
Sound Chip
Graphics Chip
Blitter Chip (to move large chunks of data)
Motorola 68000 CPU running at 7mz (the Megadrive also used the 68000)
Yes i believe the Intellivision could have done better than this but not much better.
They are correct, the INTV was the first "16-bit" system running at like well lets just not measure it how low the hertz was, and the actual processor only grabbed the info in 10-bit blocks Mattel loved to call Decle's.
That was the intention, it was supposed to be like the concept of donkey kong and since Donkey Kong for Intellivision sucked almost as bad as the Atari version it was a welcome addition to the Intellivision game library
Nah. It feels and controls great. This footage is a recording of an emulator. At the time that was the only way I could record games. I have the game and play it still and it feels great on the Intellivison controller.
I remember playing that game and I usually beat the whole thing too. Here's a little hint. When you see the window closes, you can still climb up no matter what. Also, you be better off with the heart to climb up faster too.
Haha yeah man. I usually get to at least the 4th building. This was my first time playing in a long time and it was on an emulator so I had to you the keyboard. But soon I will be posting real Intellvision video.
Imagic actually put a word down in the level counter for every 5 buildings (I loved thinking they were hotels) you completed, and as you went the free lives were very infrequent, starting at 1 per 2 segments and going to only 1 per building.
Nice. Your the first person to notice that. The glitch is not in the game itself as this video is recorded off an emulator. I believe it was a fault of the emulator and not rom dump.
All I can say is that every gamer should get down on their knees and thank god that Commodore 64 existed to get the entire game industry through the video game crash.
Seems you were running this on an emulator, the machine/cart running native gives you about 3 or so seconds after a death before recording another one. The difficulty lies in a few things. One the boulders get heaved quicker as time goes on, the building narrows as you go up, the boulder splits into 2 pieces (2nd building on) & the free life you were getting once per 2 stages becomes once per 4 & even less as the levels pile on. I've done 12 before I quit on this game before.
What a memories. I hated the bird too. I rememeber once I climbed to the last floor and I fell from a corner... I drop the controller serveral times on the floor! (what a kid) xD
those ppl at the ground are watchin prolly thinking wtf is he doin? and that sound he makes when he falls while staying on the building sounds like hes crippling himself
This was a great game, and probably some of the best graphics/sound on the intellivsion, the haters are too young/ignorant to know any better.
