wow cool they used to hold the title for the year following like here carol morris is known as miss universe 1957 and they used to get a one year movie deal! I can see why miss universe began to surpass miss world around ths time

I lived in Ottumwa in the 1950s. Carol Morris was a lifeguard at the municipal swiming pool and she was the most beautiful person this 12-year-old had ever seen. I remember all the hoopla when she won.

It is amazing to watch how this pageant has changed through out the years. It used to be more GLAMOROUS; but I still like it. I love to watch the Miss Universe every year.

I remember my mother and grandmother taking me downtown to stand on the corner of Main and Market streets when Carol was welcomed back home to Ottumwa. I was only 3 but I remember even was so proud that she was from Ottumwa.

if your mom is still alive, ask her if she knew my mother and aunts, Mary, Judy and Ruth Lyman.....they went ot OHS in the 50's....Lived on E. Woodland....There are a few needles there, but few and far between....
