  • You must love your job. :)

  • dat blue ass

  • Is there a reason why you did not use poly fiber, or tinthx on the second coat of gel 10, like you guys did in your face casting?

  • @ericvid This did use PolyFiber and TinThix. The 1st layer didn't have any thixo, but the 2nd and 3rd layers did.

  • Can you use 71-11, or other patsils for life casting, or do you have to use gel 10?

  • @ericvid Gel-10 and Gel-00 are the only silicones we carry that may be used directly over the skin.

  • gjkyuk

  • nice video

  • She was a great sport to sit through that process. You guys make it look easy.

  • Sorry for the question, but I'm genuinely curious. How do you protect sensitive areas such as inside the ear, or her, um, butt region? I think those would be bad places for mechanical locks.

  • Lots of vaseline for release.

  • @brickintheyard niiiiiiiiice *wink*

  • Good Video

  • Great vids, quick question, How would you make an entire silicone base body ? say for a car accident or an other movie prop were a dummy will simply look to cheap.

  • Best to cast up a body in sections and join the pieces in clay for resculpting.

  • bet that felt cool

  • I see u used paintbrush to apply silicon....How do you remove silicon from the brush or you use new brush each time u do body casting????

  • Brushes used for mold making go to brush heaven. They are done.

  • she has nice body shape

  • did it hurt when tooken off

  • No. Just make sure release is used.

  • what type of release do i use

    e.g wax, oil

  • Vaseline.

  • i've been debating over using plaster or silicone for lifecastings. have you used poly-viynle or acrylic resin as a final medium? does silicone give better results then latex?

  • I would not use latex for lifecasting.

I cast the finished pieces with Polyurethane resin.

  • was it awkward?

  • Nope.

  • Hello i just recently became interested in lifecasting, my question is Ware do you find the models? and how much should they get paid?

  • Find local art models or life drawing models. Fees vary greatly.

  • or you can ask a fine figured family member to help

  • Yes, that is indeed an option.

  • family member? might be a little awkward depending on which part of the body your doing. but it could also depend what state your from i guess.

  • how long did it take to do

  • about 20 minutes

  • Would you recommend using a silicone thinner with Gel-10 for use with your first layer to capture the most detail, or is this not needed with Gel-10? Also whats the advantage or disadvantage of using Gel-10 over something like Body Double from Smooth On? Thanks so much.

  • No thinner is needed in the first coat. Cost and versatility are the 2 biggest advantages. Gel-10 is not pre thickened so you can manipulate it many different ways and you are not bound to just using it for lifecasting. Gel-10 is also alot less expensive. Hope that helps.

  • why did i not get invited for that mold?

dude that is what i should be learning

    LOL

  • Mitch,

I am confused by your numbers, you said you used roughly 2.5 quarts that equals $75 in silicone. But I thought 2.5 quarts is about 5 pints, which should be closer to $220?? Did I misread you somewhere? Thanks for the info...

  • 16 Lb kit (roughly 2 gallons) = 246.00

there are roughly 8 quarts in a 16 lb kit.

  • Another great one by the mold jedi!

  • reminds me of the old way they used to make moulded wheelchair backs.

  • Another awesome vid Mitch! I'm wondering, though... what are the costs of using Gel10 as opposed to something like body double? What are the advantages to gel-10 over other lifecasting materials?

  • I made this mold working from a 16 lb kit (or 2 gallon roughly) and it took about 2.5 quarts which I believe translates to about $75 worth of silicone. I made the shell with 4 8"x5yd plaster bandages.

  • Okay so you used roughly what you might use for a head cast then? So it's safe to say you could probably do a full body casting in gel10 with that 2 gallon kit?

  • Depends on the body.

  • Is there a good way to be able to estimate the amount of gel10 to use for different body sizes?

  • what are you going to cast that in?

i would think that plaster would be evtreemley heavey

  • This mold will be used for both resin and plaster casts.

  • thanks for that

would you be able to show how to make metal casts? or do you not do that?

    thenks

    Ryan

  • You could use a mold like this to create a wax pattern for art bronze but no metal casting into this mold directly.

  • thankyou for that. i am wanting to make a metal casting for a friend of mine.

would you be able to do a vidoeo on metal casting?

    thanks

    Ryan

  • That's a good question for a foundry :)

  • How long did it take to do the mold?

  • The entire mold took about 30 minutes to complete.

  • I use the Platsil Gel-10 for making great wounds and bite marks, even for nice burns. I bet when you guys peeled that off she felt exfoliated and refreshed!

  • was she completely nude?

  • No. She was wearing Gel-10 and plaster bandages.

  • hahaha

  • she a pretty looking life case model..
