I don't really think that is a accurate way to measure the force... I am not sure how to explain what I am thinking, but I know that it is being compressed instead of having weight being suspended.
Suspension is more accurate then the force you achieve from compression. The size of the tower also affects the outcome. In addition, after a certain level of force it will snap, not because of the weight but because it is not a solid structure. The tower is like a "outline" of a solid and with the force will press, and explode inward or outward.
