This is wonderful! I have a one year old cottontail that i just recently released about 2 weeks ago. She stays in my backyard and whenever she hears my back door open, she comes out of the bushes to greet me. :D
I rehab cottons all the time and release them at the local university. There is a massive warren of rabbits around there that are protected by fish and wildlife. I have seen many of my little boogers running around there to this day. I also keep domestic rabbits. This video is absolutely right, if you see a baby bunny on your property, leave it alone. Do not attempt to care for it, 9 times out of 10 mommy will truely know best. If it is wounded take him to a wildlife rehab society.
Thank you, Rehabber, for all your hard work and the pain, though I guess the saying, "It's better to have love and lost than to never have loved" holds true for you.
I appreciate the position of both the son of the rehabber and the 4-H'er--but I wonder if they are arguing two different situations unnecessarily? To imply that the rehabber is helping herself is rather silly--she goes through expense, time, and pain when she rehabs--how is that helping herself? It is rather like the mother of the 4-H'er--is she raising that opinionated, young person for herself, or because that is what she is supposed to do, regardless of the cost to her?
u know what. im doing a breeded rabbit for 4-H. and that means i can keep it and not sell it. so thank u very much. breeders can be kept. and my salley is living a WONDERFUL life. so go shut ur mouth. cuz ppl like me know how to help animals instead of ourselves. ppl like u just put this crap up here. making ppl worry. okay. yeah.

this video is making me cry! My friend found a baby next to its roadkill mother and gave it to me to raise. He was great for a week and i'm guessing he was 3 weeks old when i had to put him to sleep this morning. I miss my little pancakes! Do u kno what could've happened? Stool was pellets, no diahrea. I fed him the kitten formula with the best mother's milk supplement i could get. He was running around perfectly active then 3 hours later he's on his side with labored breathing. Pnemonia?

Oh, this brought tears to my eyes, and id Perfectly paired with Coldplay's "Fix You". I have seen so many kidnapped babies. We try our best but cannot save them all. This explains why we continue to swim against the tide of human-induced wildlife deaths, despite the frequent heartache and difficulty of the task. This is why we are wildlife rehabbers. Thank you for getting the message out in such a perfect way.
One of the reasons they get diarrhea is because they don't get the probiotics from mom when they get old enough for solid foods. Bad bacteria from non-sterile environments get into their guts and cause the diarrhea. Then they dehydrate and usually die rapidly. Do you use fresh cecotrope material or a commercially available probiotic? I'm just curious because I'm rehabbing two right now. Great video!
I have had to deal with so many people who call me with this question, and have had to take many boxfulls of baby cottontails that people couldn't leave well enough alone- and watch many of them fade in my hands. Thank you for posting this and spreading the truth :)
Bravo! Great video. Very educational and true. And yes, folks, PLEASE ADOPT A DESERVING DOMESTICATED RABBIT FROM A SHELTER IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN A BUNNY... and remember... ALL COMPANION PETS ARE LIFETIME COMMITMENTS.

This video made me cry. You are a blessing to nature. I wish people would get this message, and leave cottontails in nature where they belong.
